PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi all
Just wanted to let you know that I wrote to HSBC, using the template from this site, in May and following a lengthy phone call in June, asking all sorts of security questions (DoB, address, payment value, etc) I received a letter on the 25th July stating that they would pay the PPI if I could provide bank statements showing all the payments made, as per data protection obligations all records had been destroyed (loan was taken out in 2001, paid off in 2008, big loan)
I contacted Barclays for copy statements but due to the age they could only go back to 2005, they was really helpful and sent full statements within a few days.
I sent the statements off, with a full list of payments made on a excel spreadsheet (took me 10 mins to knock up) on the 5th August and after a short wait I have this week received a payment for £9,276.05 (includes 8% interest)
I sent the form off on the off chance that I would receive something and was doubtful of getting the full payment when they asked for statements, so it was a pleasant surprise and would urge everyone to check if they have been mis sold PPI and to be patient
Many thanks to MSE and the forum as you gave me the incentive to make the effort and submit the claim0 -

Hello all,
I thought I should chip in re: lloyds
Claim amount: Approx £2000 (over 3 loans)
I submitted my claim on the 17th of July (so the 8 week point was 11th of september)
I recieved a letter advising that it might take upto another 8 weeks on the 1st of September. I thought it was worth adding because ive noticed that this 8 week extension letter (due to "us being very busy and recieving a large number of claims"), seems quite common, but also that it seems that people think that recieving this letter is a bad sign? Wouldn't mind some clarification as to why that is if possible.
Thanks0 -

I've being try to claim off Black Horse (loan taken out 2005) but didn't have an agreement number so too put it mildly they've rejected everything even an SAR as they can't find me or the agreement/loan!! (I did have copy of bank statements & experian credit report to prove the loan existed).
I e-mailed their Consumer Finance Director & Chief Exec & the day after (no less) they have found me & my agreement. They are prepared to uphold it (just waiting for the letter now) for details.
If anyone out there has had the same problems let me know & will send you e-mail addresses etc
Hi, I have exactly the same issue so if you could send me the email address that would be great. Also, would it be cheeky to include what you said on your email please0 -
Hello - as advised on here I did send in my very old HFC Bank (1993 & 1995) loan agreements which showed front loaded ppi on the credit agreement. I was informed today by phone that without evidence of how many instalments were paid against these loans - ie finding the bank statement entries - I had no case to take forward - is this the experience of others ? ie the copy credit agreement is not enough to support the claim?0

I took out a store card with GE money (topshop) in 1996/7 as a favour to a friend who was working there and needed commission. I was a 19 year old student. I have started to reclaim the PPI for other cards and loans (TSB and Egg) and have been successful with them. Santander have been downright obstructive and unhelpful to the point where I am tearing my hair out and I don't know where to turn! I first wrote to them in March with my new address details and a letter of complaint (as I have moved address's and cancelled the card in the last 10 years). I had a letter back thanking me for updating my details and nothing else. I waited for 6-8 weeks and then rang them as I hadn't even had an acknowledgement of my complaint. It took 4 seperate departments to tell me that my complaint hadn't even been registered! So I wrote again asking for my complaint to be looked at. They wrote back to me and said as I had signed the original credit agreement, I should have read it and therefore as far as they were concerned it wasn't mis-sold (rubbish as I was a student it should never have been sold to me in the first place). I could go either ring HMRC and get my National Insurance contributions for that year to prove I was a student or I could go to the FLA if I wanted to, I asked if I could go to the Financial Ombudsman and I was told in no uncertain terms no I couldn't do that. So I went to the FLA exactly how they asked me to and that got rejected for the same reason I had to go to HMRC to get my NINO contributions. Not only that but they also told me they operated a breadwiiners policy so if I wasn't covered at the time but I had a partner they would be covered and I would have to get their National Insurance contributions for 1997 as well! I think they think I'm going to back down, but they have been so rude and unhelpful and generally unpleasant I'm not going anywhere until I get what I'm entititled. - 10 years worth of PPI! I've rang HMRC and requested my National Insurance contributions I'm waiting for them to get back to me and I'll keep everyone posted!0

Yes, I have had same problem with EGG - they are also unhelpful and difficult to contact by phone!
One thing they will not answer is if I had made a claim during the time I had their Credit card (2001 - 2007) would they have paid out as I would have been adequately covered by my NHS benefits?
I will definitely take it further and let the FOS sort it out now.
I know its a long wait but I think EGG just hope people will give up.
I hope you have luck with the FOS0 -
Hi,
I am currently trying to help my mother in law with a ppi claim with Barclays. We advised that she didn't need ppi as she had means to cover bills etc and never asked for it. Barclays have now come back asking for further information on her employers sickness scheme which we don't understand as she wasn't part of one and we never emanated her being included in one. We stated she had alternative means and family that could help. Has anyone had anything like this before and if so any help would be grately appreciated.
Thanks in advance

(Just asking so I can try and relate it to my low offer which related to a loan that started off as £7000 up to £25000 and was consolidated 5 times over 10 years)
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kitty
Thank you! Still in shock and have been walking around with a big smile on my face!
My loan was for £10,000 and it was taken out in 2006.0
