First a big thanks to the website, the expert posters and all those who posted stories of encouragement.
After a load of hassle with HSBC over reclaiming bank charges I was dubious about embarking on PPI claim back for a long time but peoples posts on here encouraged me to seek my own justice.
In short I first received payment of £2,500 from an HSBC loan PPI and last week I took delivery of two cheques from First Plus totalling over £14,000 in lieu of PPI they sold me on a secured loan a few years back.
Thanks to the advice on MSE it was a very straightforward process and resolved within a couple of months on each occasion.
It tastes sweet to get a pound of flesh back off this cynical, money grabbing, manipulative section of society. God knows they've had plenty pounds of flesh from me over the years !0 -
Hi everyone
Just to give people who may be waiting for Lloyds an update on my complaint-
After finding out last week that I had been upheld I was advised that a letter was sent to me on 23rd August outlining how they'd calculated my award etc
The letter arrived today and stated that if they didn't hear from me by 14th September the money would be paid by cheque/ into my lloyds account.
They said that if I was happy I didn't need to do anything , just wait .
I'm now just waiting to be paid but basically I called on 18th July and was upheld on 23rd August so it's taken 7 weeks to date.
I will let everyone know when I'm paid
Good luck to all still waiting0 -
Hello. Thought I'd quickly post another success story. Took out a Lloyds credit card in 07/2008, and was talked into taking PPI because 'you need it because you're self employed'. Started thinking about reclaiming at the start of this year, thanks to Martins weekly email (great resource!). At first I wasn't sure; I added up all my payments and the total was around £460. Decided in June to pull my finger out. Filled in all the paperwork myself, which didn't take long. Received an acknowledgement within the month. Yesterday received a cheque for just over £500.
I have a couple of minor reservations. In the same post I received an offer letter, dated 22 August, giving me a number of days to consider the offer. The letter attached to the cheque is dated 29th. It says 'Your complaint has now been closed.' And I'm not convinced the interest they have worked out is entirely fair. But as the difference might be only in the tens of pounds, I'm going to accept but write about the delayed delivery of the offer.
Cheers and good luck to those pursuing their claim or thinking about it!0 -

Also had an acknowledgement letter finally from Capital One after about 3 months. Stated they're taking longer than usual but to be patient. Anyone had any successes with them?
We mailed letter of complaint (and the questionnaire) to Capital One on 18 July ans to date have heard nothing. Not even an acknowledgment so were concerned that it had disappeared. However this is reassuring, albeit annoying at their slowness!!0 -
I had a mortgage in 2005 and noted that it had PPI so went to a client to find out more about it, they sent claim to halifax..
Halifax just Phoned me stating that they infact cancelled the PPI in 2005, to which i had no notification from. Can they do this and how do i know for sure that this was infact cancelled when i had no letters to say otherwise?0 -

First Plus - phone call to them, details taken, couple of letters later, only took a few weeks £10.600 claimed! :j
Halifax - Took details over the phone, only took a few weeks, they accepted my complaint - £4.300 claimed! :j
Nat West - now this one wasn't so easy, but got there in the end. Filled out the form and sent off early May, they took the longest with phone calls and letters backwards and forwards, they really did drag their heals, but they finally came to a decision and we received £1.600! :j
The 3 claims I have put in were all successful and it is all thanks to this site, no claims companies were used, which I am sooooooo pleased I didn't go down that route. Very happy.
Can I just ask one question which I am really not sure. If you send a SAR letter off, do they only have to keep your details on loans for the last 6 years or would they have details further back? I thought they only had to keep your records on loans for the last 6 years, is that right?
May I ask when your First Plus loan dates back to? My parents have had a complaint rejected.
Also can I check - a First Plus loans now under GE Money?!0 -
I have a PPI claim with Nat West. they have written to acknowledge receipt of my complaint and I am waiting their response. About 7 years ago they put us through hell by threatening us with a charging order and finally issuing us with a CCJ after we experienced financial difficulties. As part of their 'Premier' banking account they gave us a credit card charging PPI which we did not agree to and are trying to reclaim. I've scanned the threads and picked up on a couple of claims with tNatwest...just interested to find out anymore experiences? It would be such poetic justice if our complaint with them is upheld!!Debt at Sept 2006 £63,500:eek:

Hi all. Newbie here but I have been 'lurking' for a few weeks now after posting off my own PPI claims (to see how others have been getting on). I have sent many letters off and today I got my first reply. So,
What were you reclaiming?: Credit Card
Who was the provider?: EGG
How much did you get back?: £448.34 (on a £500 credit limit card!!)
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman? Letter and Questionnaire
Reclaim Tale: I simply sent off a letter of complaint and the questionnaire template from this site just under 3 weeks ago, had a 'we have received your complaint' letter from EGG within 4 days, a CRP letter off them a couple of days later, and a letter upholding my complaint and the offer this morning. Cheque should be here within 15 days. Happy Days!! :j
