HI, I just want to say thanks to this site for giving me the confidence to do it myself and also hopefully encourage other people to do it themselves. I sent off several claims to various companies (Egg, MBNA, Morgan Stanley, Capital One, NatWest) all apart from NatWest who I phoned in mid July were posted on the 9th August. MBNA have already replied upholding my complaint and will be sending a cheque for £2675.54. Result!! I have had acknowledgement letters from the others and Egg have also said they are going to assess my financial difficulty claim separately. I wasn't aware that they classed it as a claim as all I put on the form was that if I didn't have high PPI payments I wouldn't have been in so much difficulty with the payments. Will wait and see but reading some of the posts and preparing myself for battle.
Once again thanks to everyone on here x

Gold star for MBNA cheque arrived today...whole process start to finish just over 3 weeks:j:j:j

Hi- no I've never complained to them before , infact I almost didn't on this occasion as I was adamant that I didn't have PPI but curiosity got the better of me. A guy that I work with won his complaint and urged me to check, when they told me I had PPI you could have knocked me over with a feather!

You've done the right thing calling them every week as they don't seem to be in any rush.

I'll let you know if I hear anything more from them and well done again on your success :)

Hi, i was the same i called them every week. i had a phone call yesterday (week 5) saying my claims have all been upheld (3 loans) and the lady will phone me next week with calculations, but she as forward my case to the ceo for hardship to, has anyone else been in the same situation with the claim being forwarded to ceo.
my reasons for claiming ppi was i was a stay at home mum when taking out the loans and ppi was not needed.

Success with my last complaint. Just a little under £3500 from First Direct Credit Card. That brings up the grand total of PPI reclaimed to about £10,500!!! Not bad for a few hours work (getting all my paperwork together).

Now, if only I could reclaim the mortgage PPI........
  • Sorry this is a long winded & frustrating story. But in short I want to know:

How long should I expect to wait when I have asked a bank to re look at their decision refusing my PPI complaint?

    Background info:
I have had a few successes for claiming my PPI payments back. These have been with Sainsury's & Halifax.

Therefore I am surprised that I am having such a problem with my Bank of Scotland Preference Account.

I rang them to make my PPI complaint in April 2012 stating the same reasons as I had for the other cards/loans, but also included that I had tried to claim in January 2012 after loosing my job due to my contract not being renewed due to my poor health & time spent in hospital. (the CAB had told me to check all my creditors for ppi). I had been refused due to not being eligible having worked with short term contracts since 1996 and my pre existing asthma.

I received a letter from BofS 29th June 2012 refusing my complaint with their usual 4 page jargonistic fob off letter. They had not addressed my discussion with the insurance company in January or some of the other reasons I had.

I rang them beginning of July requesting they look at the complaint again & take into account all the information I had previously given & reiterated.

This week, Tuesday 28th August I recieved a phone call from a man saying he was from BofS & ringing about my Preference Account PPI complaint. He said a letter was in the post providing details of my successful claim & I would receive £429. I told him the figure did not seem right as the account was opened in 2001 and sometimes I had been charged up to £100 per month for PPI (£10K on card at the time). He told me to wait til I had the letter & ring up.

Rang BofS on Wednesday 29th August to check how much PPI I had infact claimed. After speaking to 8 people I found that the complaint was still outstanding and no one had rang me???? Also a copy of all my statements were on the way out to me. Plus someone would ring me by the end of the day to find out more & update me.

Today I chased up again & once again have sat here all day waiting for another promised phone call.

I am quite desperate now as I am still paying my card off due to not being eligible to claim on the insurance, still being out of work & will be so for a long time. The money I am paying on my card means I can not tax & mot my car, which is my only source of mobility. I struggle to walk now & have a stairlift at home.

I would be grateful for any suggestions. :)

Have you got a letter stating it's thier full and final response, or had a letter with an Ombudsman leaflet in it? If you have, don't bother arguing with them about anything, they've given you their response and now you have to go to the FOS. This may take a while though....

And cancel any PPI you have on your card if you still have it because it's obviously not doing what it was sold to you to do.

Someone else will be along shortly, hopefully :)

    Hello,

Thought I'd share my success :j

I received a letter back today offering me £2600 back on a complaint I made about PPI on some loans I had with them. So chuffed!

I took out a loan from Egg is 2002 and topped it up several times over the years each time taking PPI (not realising it was optional). I finally paid off the loans in 2009 but didn't bother to keep the paperwork. I wrote to them at the time and asked for the PPI back and they flat refused. I never followed it up again until this year. I wrote to them in June, the only details I had was the account numbers. The wrote back saying they were looking into it and would write again with a progress report in 4 weeks and would resolve the issue in 8 weeks. Last week I wrote to them again, enclosing my original letter, their letter and a new letter pointing out they had neither updated me on progress or resolved the issue. The letter I received today offered me an amount for all the payments I made (admittedly I have no way of knowing this is correct) plus interest, plus an additional 8% 'compensation'. The deducted an amount for payment I did not make due to paying the loan off early (again, I have no paperwork to confirm the amounts are correct.) However - I am pretty pleased with the amount, I have sent back the form they asked me to sign and await a cheque they promised within 10-15 days..... I'll keep you posted when it arrives :-)

I really didn't expect this outcome at all, especially as they refused before! :-)

I'm in the same position as you but with the halifax received a standard fob off letter dated 28th June which I replied to on 30th June which they received on 5th July but couldn't tell me how long it would take for another response. I have emailed the ceo to see what is happening this was on 29th Aug but had no response to the email. I'm now left wondering what to do as it was not a full and final response they sent and it said I had 28 days to submit further information which I did and they haven't taken everything into account first time round which is very frustrating. If it takes much longer it will be the FOS route for me but I know that will be another long wait. It's a shame they aren't very helpful and just keep people hanging

Just goes to show that you only have 1 chance to get it right.

Unless you have verifiable new evidence you have no chance.

"They aren,t very helpful" because they are being thorough.
Unfortunately this may not get you the result you hoped for.

Take it to FOS, you may well be succesful, good luck!
