PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

HI, I just want to say thanks to this site for giving me the confidence to do it myself and also hopefully encourage other people to do it themselves. I sent off several claims to various companies (Egg, MBNA, Morgan Stanley, Capital One, NatWest) all apart from NatWest who I phoned in mid July were posted on the 9th August. MBNA have already replied upholding my complaint and will be sending a cheque for £2675.54. Result!! I have had acknowledgement letters from the others and Egg have also said they are going to assess my financial difficulty claim separately. I wasn't aware that they classed it as a claim as all I put on the form was that if I didn't have high PPI payments I wouldn't have been in so much difficulty with the payments. Will wait and see but reading some of the posts and preparing myself for battle.
Once again thanks to everyone on here x0 -
Luckily, I had retained all my loan agreements and all were front-loaded, so quite straightforward.
A big thank you!I read due to the old dates (ie pre-FSA and pre GISC ?) that my claims would be rejected but appears your claim from the early 1990s was upheld -
Assuming the PPI was mandatory is not a valid mis-selling complaint, I'm afraid. You need to look for other reasons if you want to successfully win redress.0 -
I telephoned the Lloyds TSB PPI complaints line for an update today on a complaint I made on the 13th July 2012...and have I been offered £6,818.18...I accepted over the phone as I wasnt expecting that much. Not sure how long it will take to go into my account though?
Good luck everyone with their complaints :j:T:rotfl:

congrats on your offer this is great news for you spend it wisely.
my complaint goes back to 21st june and i had that dreaded extra 8 weeks req by lloyds at the beginning of this month to give me a judgement so today is end of week ten so hopefully not much longer but i dread the answer as its taking to long.

At last! We received the CHAPS payment of £20,880 from Co-op. They received our acceptance letter 26th July and quoted 20 working days to pay.....I make it 25 working days but hey ho!:D0

Yes they can. If you owe them money, they have the right to use any refund against an outstanding balance.
They shouldn't have paid it straight to you in the first instance.
Although, I may not have understood completely.
When you received the 700, was that in the form of a cheque, and where did you put it? If it was in a Barclays account, and the money put you in credit, they can use it against the Barclaycard.
They can't charge you another 700 and add that to your barclaycard because that's bsically saying that they were wrong to refund you, and they have reclaimed their original 700.
They paid me a cheque which i paid into my own account , not barclays . Thye never stated that i had to pay the money back to them once the cheque had cleared .They have now charged me £700 on my account and charging intrest . I keep phoning and they state the £700 is the repyament of the PPI . they dont seem to understand that they sent me a cheque but then have charged me for it on my bc account . they keep telling me they paid the PPI in the first place and i wasnt intitled to the money . They are not making any sense0 -
hi there I had PPI on a Littlewoods Credit C0

I wrote to Egg 9 weeks ago as my wife had an egg card from 2001 to 2004. I contacted them first in 2008 and was told there was no ppi applied to this card via the telephone so I thought nothing about it.
Then 9 weeks ago I contacted my mortgage provider Halifax who had also told me via the telephone that I had no ppi on my mortgage but after further investigation I found this was incorrect. So with this in mind I requested the SAR report for my wife's Egg card too and also the copy of my wife's internet application form. Guess what, PPI was applied for 2 years and then stopped (but I can't remember if we requested it to be stopped or not) but I have not received the internet application form. I wrote to Egg and explained the situation and as Egg had already been investigated and fined for PPI issues I thought I had a good case. They have written back to me stating that the matter is closed quoting.
Our online application
1) does not require you to take out PPI as a condition of taking the card.
2) does not provide an advisory service
3) required you to positively confirm that you wished to purchase this policy during the inline application.
4) provided full terms and conditions of the policy and requested you read them before submitting.
So I believe Egg was fined for having an internet application process that had preticked boxes on it. How do I prove this if they wont sent me the information I requested.0 -
hi there, was wondering if anyone has had any success with Littlewoods Personal Finance Credit Card( from the Woolwich). I had ppi with one of these over 10 years ago and was a student at the time, so was misold it.
I dont have any original paperwork- just an original account number. I tried both Littlewoods and Barclays( who I believe took over the Woolwich) to no available. Told that they have no record of the card or the PPi policy. Been sent on a wild goose chase through endless call centre numbers. Find this hard to believe as Lowell debt collecters still try and chase me for £69 that I paid off years ago. ( They also say that they know nothing about the PPI). I find this really dodgy and frustrating - anyone else had any dealings with this? Thanks for listeningxx0 -
- What were you reclaiming: Credit Card
- Who was the provider: Morgan Stanley now Barclays
- How much did you get back: £1,737.24
- Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: FOS
- And then write your brief reclaim tale
Refund of Premiums £879.18
Refund of interest charged on premiums £159.30
8% simple interest per annum £698.76
Total refund £1,737.24
The account was opened in 2001 and was closed in 2004.
FOS won't check the figures for me and have advised if I am not happy they would need to put this in as a new complaint for adjudication, could be 3 to 6 months, could be longer.
To add insult to injury the redress letter states that the refund will be paid within 12 weeks!
I am not happy with Barclays, they have been the worst firm to deal with in respect of PPI and given their track record in other areas need to be investigated and penalised by the FSA (and I also believe in Father Christmas and the tooth fairy).
Anyway, I digress, if any of the forum community could have a look at the figures I would be most grateful.
Many thanks0
