    Hi all,

I received a questionaire from ocean almost 4 weeks ago asking me to fill it in as I may have been mis sold ppi. I filled it in and received a reply saying they are looking into it.

I took out a secured loan over 25 years for 25k and paid a single payment added to the load of 15k!!! which I didn't realise only covered me for 5 years and cost 5k and the other 10k was interest added on!!

Does anyone think I'm in with a good chance of receiving a refund? Any advice would be much appreciated, especially if you have been through something similar.

    Thanks lilminx

This is the most upheld complaint by the FOS
  • Thank you Money Saving Expert. Your advice has been invaluable when trying to claim back miss sold PPI.

After having taken out a couple of loans with Egg approximately 7 years ago I decided to put in a claim on the suggestion from my sister (thanks Sis) I'm so glad I did. It took about 4 months to be resolved but have just received cheques totalling £9065.41

Now onto the credit cards. I believe that Egg pre-ticked their protection online during 2003-2004. Can anybody confirm this?

    Hi Everyone,

    Looking for some advice.

I took out finance with Ford Credit in 1996/97. I no longer have any paperwork, all I have is some bank statements which show payments to FC.

I'm sure I had PPI included although not 100%.

Just to see if it is worthwhile sending a questionnaire to Ford Credit bearing in mind it was approx 16 years ago?

    Thanks!
You have hit a brick wall with this due to the year and the fact you have no paperwork, any data they may have will have been destroyed now, you could send a letter and ask, see what they come back with.

Hi I had a letter from santander on the 20th JUNE advising me that i had been missold ppi and they would be making a payment in the next 14 days. Today the 28th of august i have just phoned again to be told it is waiting to be signed off. I moved about 4 weeks ago so i understand that could have slowed things down but was expecting the payment before then in any case.It is a fair size cheque so i understand they have to be careful but how long do i have to wait as i am starting to lose my patience as they said 14 days over 2 months ago. Any sugesstions PLEASE

There is not a lot you can do I am afraid but wait, as you moved this will have held the payment up, just keep calling and ask what they are doing with this.

    Hello,

I took out a store card back in 2005. All i can remember is signing a form at the counter. How to i look into claiming PPI back or seeing if this was paid?

I've contacted 0871 522 5754 ant the lady wasn't really helpful and confused me even more.

Will i have paid this? I haven't used the account since last year so i'm stuck on what to do.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Terry
If you paid PPI this will show on every statement that you have, look at the statements, if you have any, if there is PPI and you have reasons for mis sell then put the claim in.

I've just had a very pleasant phone call with a lady from Lloyds.

A few pages ago if anyone remembers, I emailed the CEO and got a reply back saying that they were going to review my complaint again. I had emailed and sent a in letter detailing new evidence to my earlier rejection. This was that I had a pre existing medical condition and PPI would not have paid out. I had only got details from my Dr with the dates and the reason I did not put it in my original questionnaire is because I had thought I was diagnosed after I had got my credit card but it was 5 months before.

Anyway, to cut a long story short the lady that emailed me late last week rang today and said they had reviewed it and my credit card complaint has been upheld! I took applied for this card in 1990!

So to those who say that there is no point in sending in further evidence there is, IF you have further evidence to show that there was a mis sell and if you go to the top, it speeds up the process! I hope this gives some of you a bit of hope.

Its gone to the calculation department and she said she would ring me possibly Thursday with the figure and send letter with the calculation later this week.

Things like this don't happen to me! :j

I just want to say a HUGE thank you to moneysaving expert - using your letter templates has really made our year!

My husband and I spent 6 years living in the UK and acquired (and paid off) quite alot of debt through purchasing property while we were there, we moved back to Australia at the end of 2009. A relative in the UK mentioned claiming back our PPI a few months ago, we did a few google searches and came across this site, and decided to send off a couple of letters "just to see what happens". The result was even better than we expected!!

I am currently trying to track down the account details of another EGG credit card and HSBC mortgage repayment protector insurance to put a few more claims in!

What were you reclaiming: Personal Loan PPI
    Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £8185
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: We received the offer letter with 8 weeks and were paid within one week of accepting the offer
And then write your brief reclaim tale This loan was paid off over 6 years with a very hefty PPI addition of over £4000, we were forced to take this out when signing up for the loan as "we were of childbearing age" (we had no children at the time!), adding the PPI added an extra year of repayments to our loan so we are super happy to receive some recompense for the extra financial hardship this created!

What were you reclaiming: Credit Card repayment protector
Who was the provider: EGG Card (through Barclaycard)
How much did you get back: £3064
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: We received the offer letter with 12 weeks (received a letter at 8 weeks stating they needed more time) and are currently waiting for funds to be transferred to our UK account.
And then write your brief reclaim tale This insurance was automatically added when opening the credit card account. The account is now closed but had been transferred to Barclaycard earlier this year. The refund payment offered by Barclaycard also included a refund of any over limit fees they charged us. The offer was much higher than expected!

So glad to hear of a success with Egg Credit Card - please could you tell me what year you took out the Credit Card, because both my husband and I applied for a credit card at the same time, and neither of us requested PPI, and he has been successful with his complaint and received back the PPI paid but I haven't - and we both believe that it was a pre-ticked box on the internet. Any help would be great thanks.
  • I just wanted to let you know of our story as I had been searching to see if anyone had any luck claiming back PPI even though they had actually used it to make a claim.

8 years ago my husband took out a large loan over 9 years and was told he had to have PPI even though he was classed as self employed and would be useless. During those 8 years he was classed as 'employed' for around a year before he was made redundant, at which point we claimed on the PPI for about 4 months. He returned to work on a self employed basis (he is a construction site manager so this is quite common in the building trade as they subcontract out rather than employ people on the books) but the at Christmas last year the company he was working for went bankrupt and he was out of a job again, however as he was classed self employed even though he worked for same company, he could not claim on the PPI. We even called HSBC asking them to take the PPI off the loan as it was useless and they wouldn't. I wasn't sure whether we would be able to claim anything back even though it was clearly mis-sold.

We filled in the forms from this site sent it off, about a week later got a letter confirming receipt and about 8 weeks after that we have just recieved an offer from HSBC to refund around £6300, plus they will take off the PPI from the loan reducing it from £360 a month to £266 a month! I was gobsmacked that a third of our loan was just PPI and really pleased that we had been able to claim back the rest of the money. The forms were really simple and as someone who normally can't be bothered to do anything like this, I am SO glad we made the effort to pursue this.

So there you go, if you can actually prove the PPI was misold in the first place, the banks (well HSBC at least) will pay it back! :j
