What were you reclaiming: PPI on Barclays bank loan
Who was the provider: Barclays
How much did you get back: £5700
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Just contacted Barclays PPI department, filled in forms and money paid in after 7 weeks
What a lovely suprise, when logged on to see if I had enough money to pay my loan this month, £5700 paid into my account. hAPPY DAYS. Good luck to everyone who's waiting xx0 -
Just a quick update to say I'm not doing too well with my PPI claim with DFS. After several phonecalls, passed around the houses, I sent in claims to DFS and Santander. Santander have passed the buck to DFS. DFS have replied to say they don't think there is a case as I signed to say that I wanted PPI, even though I also ticked the boxes to say that I didn't NEED it e.g. I had savings/sick pay from work etc.
They have asked for copy invoices etc (bit strange as surely they would have copies on file), which I have submitted a few weeks ago. Let's see what happens, but I'm not hopeful
Success at last, a cheque for £208 from DFS (as a 'goodwill' gesture). Not as big as some successes on here, but better than a poke in the eye! :T0 -
I just want to say a HUGE thank you to moneysaving expert - using your letter templates has really made our year!
My husband and I spent 6 years living in the UK and acquired (and paid off) quite alot of debt through purchasing property while we were there, we moved back to Australia at the end of 2009. A relative in the UK mentioned claiming back our PPI a few months ago, we did a few google searches and came across this site, and decided to send off a couple of letters "just to see what happens". The result was even better than we expected!!
I am currently trying to track down the account details of another EGG credit card and HSBC mortgage repayment protector insurance to put a few more claims in!
What were you reclaiming: Personal Loan PPI
Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £8185
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: We received the offer letter with 8 weeks and were paid within one week of accepting the offer
And then write your brief reclaim tale This loan was paid off over 6 years with a very hefty PPI addition of over £4000, we were forced to take this out when signing up for the loan as "we were of childbearing age" (we had no children at the time!), adding the PPI added an extra year of repayments to our loan so we are super happy to receive some recompense for the extra financial hardship this created!
What were you reclaiming: Credit Card repayment protector
Who was the provider: EGG Card (through Barclaycard)
How much did you get back: £3064
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: We received the offer letter with 12 weeks (received a letter at 8 weeks stating they needed more time) and are currently waiting for funds to be transferred to our UK account.
And then write your brief reclaim tale This insurance was automatically added when opening the credit card account. The account is now closed but had been transferred to Barclaycard earlier this year. The refund payment offered by Barclaycard also included a refund of any over limit fees they charged us. The offer was much higher than expected!0 -
Hi Everyone,
I got a letter the other day from RBS offering me a refund of £1206.27. This is made up of ppi premiums plus interest and also a refund of charges for going over my limit plus interest. I am delighted with this offer and tend to accept especially as I hadn't counted on getting a refund on the charges for going over my limit.
I do have one query though. The amount they are offering is more than the current balance on the card. The letter states that unless the card has been cancelled, it hasnt, the money will be credited straight to the card I claimed on. Will they send me a cheque for the difference? I tried phoning them but they are closed for a bank holiday.
I would also like to say a huge thanks to MSE website for providing all the template letters to make a claim.:T
Thanks.Make £2012 in 2012 Challenge No.155: £85.40/£20120 -

Once they send you the letter asking for your signature, is there any way they will get out of the decision?
This amount will make us almost debt free, have never been debt free in my entire adult life!

SmithyJones wrote: »Hello everyone! After reading the article on this site I have managed to get back £2000 from MBNA. I didnt use any agencies / companies either so the refund is 100% mine! I didnt even have any paperwork as it was all shredded may years ago. this is what I did:
register with noddle.co.uk - here you will get all of your current and closed account information (mortgages / credit cards / loans etc).
They only provde the last 4 digits of the account numbers but this still worked for me.
I simply wrote to EVERYONE on the list complaining about PPI and hey presto - a £2k refund. The only cost to me was some time and some stamps. The easiest £2000 Ive ever made.
If you havent done it DO IT NOW.
Good Luck!
PS Martin Lewis should be given a knighthood:T
Was this via sending them a £1 postal order for a copy of their credit agreement with you?.0 -
Really Barclays are fobbing you off?
Banks only have to keep the data for 6 years, have you kept all your statements? If you are really that annoyed spend £10 and get a SAR this will tell you exactly what they have on record about you.
Sent £10 cheque and SAR request a couple of months ago but they still only sent statements going back 6 years (I've got my statements from 2000 - I stupidly shredded the ones I had for late 1990s early last year), but as I said I'm not giving up with Barclays.0 -
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate what you are saying but I know for a fact that if you send further information they do come back to you. I am not convinced that my claim has been handled properly as information they put in my letter was false and this is why I am at the moment continuing to correspond with Lloyds Tsb all be it one sided at the moment. No where in my letter does it state that it is a full and final response. When I went in to the bank to start my complaint I was not told I had to fill in a questionairre they just faxed basic details to them I was expecting that I would have to give more details which is why I assumed that the letter they sent was just that. Thank you again for your reply
Just to let you know that I supplied Lloyds with more information and they changed their minds and upheld my complaint. Hope this helps.0 -

Until then, I stand by everything I've said in posts directed at "sangria56"0
