PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I have sent off a letter for my ex to sign asking MBNA to reconsider rejection for his CC PPI and am quite excited for him as could be quite a big payout but don't want to say too much if he's in for a letdown!! Would be really grateful for views from Money/Amersall/Di as to whether you feel he has a good case, pls pardon the long post, but can't wait another four weeks!!
Took his cc out in 1996 with a postal application. Rang to ask some questions. Was told to list household income, not just his own (even though I was never going to have a card on the account) as this would increase his credit limit. Was also told would be highly unlikely to be accepted if he did not accept PPI. Was not questioned about whether he had any other cover in place, nor did he have cost implications of the cover explained to him. Even though this was a long time ago, he had never before (or since) had another cc so remembers it quite clearly.
Cancelled the cover about 18months ago when he learnt the PPI was not mandatory, but only when I spoke to him recently did he realise he could put a reclaim in if missold.
The cover in place at point of sale was:
19 years long service benefits (with same employer but two different companies) which included at least six months full and six months half pay.
Redundancy package
Two lots of private health care, one through his company and one through mine.
Life endowment policy with no mortgage and no dependants
Private pension which paid out this year and allowed him to pay £12K off his balance.
We are sending off copies of statements from 1997, 98 and 99, but he has nothing later (thus my question recently about how far MBNA go back with CC records). He was paying up to £150pm just in PPI at one stage!
Do you think he has a good chance of success?
Looks like it to me, why would insurance be needed? looks like there was enough cover.Fingers crossed.0 -
Could,t agree more with people who think it,s a lottery whether claims are upheld or not.
Both my Lloyd,s loans claims have been rejected.
My original reasons for wanting to claim were that i was 100% told no ppi no loan. After reading this site I realised this was not provable so claimed on the reason of front loaded which everyone on here say,s is a no no. I also mentioned being self employed.
So if it,s not a lottery how come 2 perfectly valid claims have been rejected.
I accept the odd mistake will be made, I accept everyone thinks their claim is 100%(cmc excepted) but i still think it comes down to what mood the investigator is in, has he / she met their targets, has he/she had a good / bad day etc.
If reports on here are correct it seems their is no consistency.
Thats what i find so frustrating.
It would also help if the banks would say why they have upheld complaint,s but i suppose that would just encourage people to tailor their complaints accordingly.
Good luck all and thanks for all the advice.
The banks are stalling, take this to FOS , Single Premium PPI is the most upheld.
If people were mis sold, the claim will be upheld, if they were not, then it won't, the banks are just playing with folk at the moment it has nothing to do with anything else, trust me.0 -
We've had another letter through today offering £413 for PPI sold on a Burton store card. Account since closed. One letter and one completed questionnaire sent on 18/7/12.0

The good news :- Thank you for the standard claim form. Just got £4700 including interest from Natwest. Excellent!!
The bad news :- Have put a claim in with Black Horse. But as I do not have the agreement number they will not carry on with it. The loan started in Oct 05 & I settled it in Sept 2007. I have provided copies of my bank statements with the loan monies £7k coming into my account & the first repayment, (these just say Black Horse so no agreement number there). Also given sent them a copy of my experion credit report which shows the loan but again no agreement number.
Any suggestions gratefully received. Is a SAR worth it as they seem to decided I do not exist!!!! Or straight to Finance Ombudsman???0 -
Just wanted to say thank you to MSE - just had confirmation that I'm due to receive a £1,400 refund for mis-sold PPI form an egg credit card I had quite a few years ago - result!
I have a claim pending with EGG too. Posted on 18.7.12. They responded to ask for a utility bill or similar as confirmation of my new address (have moved since account was active). Can I ask how long in total it took your EGG case to be resolved?0 -

M&S Money have accepted liability and have upheld my complaint. I have been offered all of the three elements back, including the 8% interest etc.
I do have a question, though. Am I entitled to any MORE compensation for mis-selling/time involved in claiming etc than the three elements of contributions and interest, and would I get it if I went to the Ombudsman or would the Ombudsman think that M&S Money have behaved correctly?
They have paid the full redress as the FOS rule.
The 8% is the compensation and you will not get any more.0 -
Hi everyone, I got a phone call to night from monument credit card saying that I can get my PBP (PAYMENT BREAK PLAN) back by going to premier claims plus.
I know that premier claims plus will charge me to use them so I was wondering if anybody has reclaimed their PBP, and if you have do you do it the same way as claiming a ppi back, because a ppi is an insurance but not sure what the PBP come under.
And I thought it a bit odd that they phoned me up saying I could claim back from them.0 -
What can I say Martin has saved us yet again! We claimed PPI back on a Northern Rock loan 18 months ago received £2k back just using Martin's template docs. Lately been struggling so on the off chance I dug out a scrap of paper for a loan that we paid off nearly 6 years ago, it was a secured loan that my husband and ex-wife took out and that we paid off with some inheritance we received (we paid £69k off) original loan was approx £100k with Firstplus. I filled in the template from Martin second class stamp and then 6 weeks later a letter to say they were going to pay us £25,001. Fantastic! Just point to note it was a joint loan so husband's ex wife also had to sign the acceptance form and agree to have it paid all to one person or split 50/50, there is no chance of you doing it without your ex knowing and agreeing to it (if you were thinking of it!).
Can't thank you enough Martin I tell everyone to use your templates as its so easy and only costs price of a stamp.0 -
hi
was looking a little bit of advice, Last april 2011. Iwent through a company to claim back PPI my claims where for black horse and first trust bank (tsb) they were took out in 1999 i had both sets of paper work the ppi was added upfront on both cases,
I have a medical illness , but i also work for the public sector and get paid full pay if i was ever of sick.
the tsb i was told that ppi was the only way you got accepted for loan and black horse the box was already filled in.
the thing is the company i used i had to ring them all the timeto see what was happening,
well about last november the last time i phoned them they said they were passing it onto omnibus but i have never had a letter from the company or the omnibus about any of the complaints , should i ring company i used to see if anything is happening they never sent me a ref number or anything from omnibus and i have never recieved any letters from omnibus
any adviced on this would be greatly appriecated
thank you
