Reading the successes here has really encouraged me to bite the bullet and claim the (still running) PPI on two BOS credit cards.

Do I need to fill in a separate FOS form for each card (taken out roughly 18 months apart) or can I just phone the PPI complaint number on their website?

    Q
  • Hello everyone! After reading the article on this site I have managed to get back £2000 from MBNA. I didnt use any agencies / companies either so the refund is 100% mine! I didnt even have any paperwork as it was all shredded may years ago. this is what I did:

register with noddle.co.uk - here you will get all of your current and closed account information (mortgages / credit cards / loans etc).

They only provde the last 4 digits of the account numbers but this still worked for me.

I simply wrote to EVERYONE on the list complaining about PPI and hey presto - a £2k refund. The only cost to me was some time and some stamps. The easiest £2000 Ive ever made.

If you havent done it DO IT NOW.

    Good Luck!

PS Martin Lewis should be given a knighthood:T

Could,t agree more with people who think it,s a lottery whether claims are upheld or not.
Both my Lloyd,s loans claims have been rejected.
My original reasons for wanting to claim were that i was 100% told no ppi no loan. After reading this site I realised this was not provable so claimed on the reason of front loaded which everyone on here say,s is a no no. I also mentioned being self employed.
So if it,s not a lottery how come 2 perfectly valid claims have been rejected.
I accept the odd mistake will be made, I accept everyone thinks their claim is 100%(cmc excepted) but i still think it comes down to what mood the investigator is in, has he / she met their targets, has he/she had a good / bad day etc.
If reports on here are correct it seems their is no consistency.
Thats what i find so frustrating.
It would also help if the banks would say why they have upheld complaint,s but i suppose that would just encourage people to tailor their complaints accordingly.

Good luck all and thanks for all the advice.

    PS Moneyineptitude,

2, This is not wishful thinking by someone with a weak claim.
3, Keep on playing devils advocate while some people may not like what you have to say a reasoned, considered opinion is always worth listening to.
  • I had a loan with Barclays Bank in 2004, I wrote them in July and they deposited £3900 in my account last week. :T Thanks Martin. One down 2 more to go.:j

Since I didn't read your complaint (or see the Bank's response), it's impossible to comment.
The fact is that it is NOT a lottery (look at the official FOS figures to see) and it's unwise to look on a forum for evidence of this since it will always be populated by more disgruntled failures than ecstatic successes. I think you also do a disservice to the Banking staff who investigate the complaints and to the Banks themselves who have in place very thorough and rigorous processes to ensure mood swings and/or targets are not possible factors in decision making. Your complaint will have been looked at by more than one person, for a start.
Anyway good luck at FOS (but do remember that front-loading is the most upheld complaint reason, but never a cast iron certainty).

He's a Burmese. He spends rather a long time sleeping these days and needs a step to climb up on our bed, but otherwise he's in rude health.

Thanks for the compliment and words of encouragement.
I don't write my posts in order to be "liked", in fact I long since ceased trying to be less blunt in my responses.;)
But no one likes to hear that their complaint is weak or without foundation and it doesn't surprise me when I sometimes get an overly defensive (or even hostile) reception to my remarks.
  • Have successfully had complaints upheld with MBNA loan, Virgin CC and Tesco loan totalling nearly £13,000 - all front loaded ppi and because I am a hoarder I had all the necessary paperwork in the loft!
Want to help my Dad out now but he doesn't have account numbers or very much details of dates and amounts etc so was wondering if people wouls recommend the noodle.co.uk website that Smithy Jones has suggested.
    Thank you in anticipation

I have just had a rejection letter from Lloyds TSB for claiming ppi on 2 business loans - not happy! I was self employed, gave them all the relevant info etc., and yet rejected. There reason: they have considered whether I was eligible etc., completed all their relevant steps and in short found no grounds to support my allegations that my policies were mis-sold! Oh, and they trust they have clearly explained the reasons for their decision - I think not!

So do I go to the Financial Ombudsman now?
  • As the banks have the information as a copy of our agreement, why do we have to go throught the process of claiming ??

I have had this with one of my complaints with Lloyds and the answer to your question is YES. I rang lloyds to reconsider and they told me I had to go to the FOS.

Ring the FOS and they will send out the relevant paperwork!
  • Just wanted to say thank you to MSE - just had confirmation that I'm due to receive a £1,400 refund for mis-sold PPI form an egg credit card I had quite a few years ago - result!
