What were you reclaiming: credit card repayment protection
    Who was the provider: Egg
How much did you get back: £584.90
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: A letter and a phonecall
And then write your brief reclaim tale: I didn't have my full account details, only the last 4 digits of the card but thought I would try as I had all other information. I wrote to Egg with the template letter with the basis of my claim being that I had not knowingly opted for the CRP and had applied for the card during a time when Egg were known to have pre-ticked boxes and for various work reasons would not have needed it. One reason I knew this was because my limit on the card was very low and my minimum monthly repayments were £25 and the CRP was £20 a month and as soon as I had realised I was barely paying off the balance on an interest free card I had cancelled the CRP I had done this. I received a letter from them saying they didn't recognise me. Using the phone number on the letter I rang them and completed security to verify my account. About two weeks later I received a letter from them saying they had still not heard from me to verify my information. I had not been able to follow this up from them because work has been very busy. However yesterday (about 6 weeks after the first letter from them) I received a letter from them saying they had upheld my claim. I am very pleased with the amount as, as I said, the card had a very low limit so I didn't expect very much at all. This now concludes my PPI experience after success complaints on this and one other loan.

    Hi there
Its quite frustrating how inconsistant EGG are. My story is same from what you say but EGG have refused to up hold my complaint.
I will write another letter and put it to the FOS if no luck.

Well done to you for getting yours up held! :T
  • Hi Everyone, please forgive me if i am posting in the wrong place but cannot find a thread suits my question.

I was definetely miss-sold PPI when buying my first flat back in 2005. I was told that i had to take PPI against my mortgage repayments which was with Northern Rock.

My question is this though. I arranged my mortagage and PPI etc through a financial advisor. Is it them who i should chase for PPI claim or Northern Rock or is there nothing i can do as it wasn't the bank who sold me it?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thank you, I am very pleased particularly as you say Egg are very inconsistent. I remember being very cross when I realised the CRP had been applied, but me being cross and knowing I hadn't asked for it and just being so annoyed I had barely paid a penny of the balance when I thought I had a couple of hundred pounds, is not the same as being able to prove it. I can only think because the monthly repayments were only slightly less than a minimum repayment on the full balance, it threw into question whether or not I would have knowingly opted for it.
  • received our dreaded letter from the halifax today after only 5 weeks but refusing to uphold our complaint. our basis for claiming mis-selling ppi was my hubby is self employed and we have critiacl illness cover with our mortgage, there reason for refusing us was it was explained fully to us at the time and my hubby fitted the criteria for ppi.. unsure wether to take it further or give up as a lost cause :(:(:(
  • Hi,

I have been told that I may be able to claim for PPI that I paid on my student loan? I finished paying it off in 2005. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have proof that I was made redundant and didn't know that I was covered by PPI or I would have made a claim.
The P45 only shows you were unemployed, it's not proof that you were unaware you could claim on your PPI.
Remember, a mis-selling complaint is concerned with what took place at the time of your application for finance. If it was credit card PPI you are complaining about it would have appeared as a separate item on each monthly statement. If it was loan PPI , it would have appeared on your original agreement in a breakdown of what you would actually owe.
Did you really complain purely on the basis that you weren't aware of the PPI?

No I was complaining as they made it clear at the time that I stood more chance of my application going through with the PPI the fact was I didnt really need it and now it is in the public domain I think I am entitled to try to claim it back.
  • Newbie here !
After reading this site today, decided to give LTSB a call, my loans which included PPI go back to pre 2000 I think - LTSB confirmed I'd had 6 loans since 1996 and will look into the PPI and get back to me!
On another issue, anyone know if I have a claim in relation to the PPI I have had on my mortgage since I took it out, some 18yrs ago... We were told we had to take theirs when taking out the mortgage (Portman) and ever since have just stayed with them not beliving that we could change. We have received letters & made adjustments etc in more recent years (nationwide) but never read them and never looked to change as I didnt think we could... Any advise on this ?? £35 per month for 18yrs......
Any advise would be helpful please.

Unfortunately, this kind of "hearsay" complaint cannot be proven and is the easiest for the Banks to reject.
Send it to FOS, but expect a (very) long wait for an uncertain outcome. Sorry.
