Very impressed with MBNA in relation to my claim for credit card PPI.

I originally tried to claim my PPI back on an A&L credit card back in 2008. I applied for the card in 1998 and the response I got was that I ticked the box so tough luck.

I called MBNA on Tuesday to try again, they took my details over the phone and promised to contact me within 10 days. On Thursday I received a letter confirming my complaint and today I received a further letter saying my claim was being upheld and I would receive my money within 12 weeks once they've calculated how much I'm owed.

Great result and impressive service from MBNA. I did say that when I took the card out I was under the impression that choosing PPI would increase my chances of being accepted, perhaps that helped my case?
  • i filled in the form from money saving expert to claim my ppi back as im in the army and was miss sold it, sent it off to opus and got a letter from them offering me £723!

Had a rejection letter today from Santander with regards to my Debenmhams card.
The letter stats that PPi was taken out with the card in August 1998 and canelled in June 2007.
They said that i signed for PPi and have enclosed a copy of the form and yes i did sign it but having worked for debenhams know that it is forced on you and you have to say that the card will not be approved if its not taken out.
The letter stats its a final decision and if i have any complaints to address it to the address on the letter.
    What should i do.

but having worked for debenhams know that it is forced on you and you have to say that the card will not be approved if its not taken out.

First question is to ask yourself having known this why you continued to have it on your card or got it in the first place.

Secondly you are pointing out that having worked for Debenhams that you know it is forced on you this implies that you did not feel it was forced on you when you took it out but are rather basing your experience on what you saw at work.

And not to completely burst your bubble but hearsay where you say they said complaints are not often upheld as the burden is on you to provide the proof.

I don't want to put anyone off claiming for PPI if they have valid reasons but at the end of the day the only other route for you is a long wait at the FOS.

  • I took a loan out many years ago with RBS, their call centreadviser told me that I would need to have the payment protection for the loanto be approved, so obviously needing the money I had the PPI too. Incidentally the PPI on the loan was providedby Halifax.

Anyway long story short, I heard about people trying toreclaim their PPI payments some successfully, some not and I wondered if Icould do the same but I didn’t really know where to start, then I found outabout Martin Lewis and this website. Soafter a few months of deliberating (for fear of being told, 'No it was your ownfault') I decided to follow the instructions and use the templates. I sent all the information off and 8 (long) weekslater I got a letter saying, Sorry for the inconvenience and sorry the plandidn’t meet my requirements blah, blah, blah and that they would be sending mea cheque for just over £12,500. I couldn’t believe my eyes; I was totally lostfor words, excited and overwhelmed but still wouldn’t believe it until thecheque arrived.

That was at thebeginning of this month and yesterday I received my cheque and I wanted to saya big, big thank you to Martin and all the contributors to the site for givingme the knowledge and encouragement to go for it. I would urge everyone to try; it is most definitelyworth the stamps.

Good Luck to all going through and those just starting theprocess. Stick to the guidance and you can’t go wrong.

  • Hi all,

Hoping someone can help! I took out a loan with Capital Bank PLC way back in 2004 and subsequently paid this off.

Unfortunately I did not keep any of the paperwork apart from my bank statements which detail the direct debit payments. Am trying to find out if I could claim back my PPI.

Does anyone have an address for Capital Bank PLC as I believe they were taken over in 2007 ???

    Thanks guys :D

What PPI? Do you have anything that shows you had it?

    Hi moose2003

I've received a letter from the FOS this week upholding my claim against MBNA, their original refusal was that it was non advised as i took it out over the web, i'm now waiting for an offer letter they have 10 week from next Friday to send the offer to me.

timescales - e-mailed FOS in early March, letter received this week upholding complaint, did get an update a few week ago where the FOS stated they had the info from MBNA and would be scanned in but this happened a lot sooner than i thought it would

    Hi Longy 123
Thank you for your update , it sounds like a very similar scenario and I feel more optimistic now. The timescale is better than expected too!
    Keep me posted
    Many thanks

Good news from Santander ... after receiving two letters the 1st acknowledging the questionnaire & telling us it would be approx 8 weeks for them to look into the complaint; the 2nd which arrived 10 days ago advising it might take a little longer as they were still looking into it, we had a 3rd letter arrive yesterday telling us they've decided to reimburse the total cost of the PPI policy & offered us £3,798.72 which is the amount incl interest stated on the original policy agreement.:T:T:T

Thanks for your advice & help amersall x
