Write back to MBNA and reject the reasons they are not upholding, show that you could have paid this card should the worst happen, sick pay, life insurance cover elsewhere etc.
Well done on the Nationwide.
Hi Amersall,
Thanks for the advice on MBNA. In regards to Nationwide they've not upheld my compliant. They've rejected it on the basis that they feel I was advised correctly at the time. They've agreed to pay me back premiums over a 1 year period as I requested for them to be cancelled Aug 2003 but they never did until Sept 2004 when the loan was paid off. I have now gone to the Ombudsman, is that the best thing to do?0 -

(I'm amazed you had to go to FOS with this!)0 -
that win is the largest i have read about on here......life changing amount !! bet MBNA were gutted to be over ruled !!0

I have a few claims pending right now, but 3 of them are due around now so this morning I rang HSBC for an update, I asked them for £7,269.38 including interest for PPI on various loans I've had as well as an unknown amount for PPI on my credit card. They are still investigating my card, but they are about to issue me an offer letter on the loans for £8,420 or there abouts!
Obviously this is very happy news for me as it will pay off ALL my debts as well as buy my a new computer and leave me with some spare money
EDIT: So what happens now? They said this amount is an estimate, how accurate are they normally? Presumably I know have to wait for a letter confirming the amount, are they likely to change their minds between the phone call and the letter and decline my claim?0 -

The CMC's fee is going to be larger than most people's entire redress!:mad:0 -
yaaay another success. Just had a letter from Egg re an old credit card upholding my claim and offering £837, they have taken the tax off already so saves me a job! Four weeks from beginning to end. Lets hope they are quick in offering me £4k ppi on loans I have put a claim in for. Funny they had records yet M&S don't so won't pay up. My Egg card was settled earlier than M&S loan. 12 weeks waiting for Lloyds TSB, they seem to be the worst!0

Just put what you have said in your post, hearsay and he said she said is hard to prove, show that the PPI was not needed, could the card be paid or cleared should the worst have happened, was there sick pay, life insurance etc?.0 -
Hi there
Congratulations - I am very encouraged to hear FOS have up held your complaint.
Would it be ok for me to ask how you applied for your MBNA cards and the circumstances around your case?
MBNA have refused to uphold my complaint on the grounds that I signed the PPI agreement in 2001 which strongly recommended I took out the cover. It was not an advised sale. I agree I am daft for doing this but I was not aware that you could shop around or more importantly that I was better covered by my NHS benefits. I have also subsequently discovered that MBNA would not have even paid out if I had had to claim, because of my NHS sick cover etc! The copy of my agreement showed I had written NHS three times on the form!!
I have now gone to the FOS with this. Incidentally how long did it take?
:rotfl:well done again
Hi there
I had ticked for it reading the strongly advised comments, I had cover in every job I had until now including sick pay death in service etc and it was therefore not required
Stick in there, it took the FOS 6 mths to get there for me!0 -

Yes
That is the downside, but the bill could have Been worse I must have a cheap cmc compared to some others I had read.
I would advise people to do it themselves and not use claims companies
I have done both as I thought it would be difficult to claim and I have to say that it is worth doing yourself and it is not as difficult as the cmc's would have you believe!0 -
My offer from Barclays was £5700 and the letter informed me I had to inform the taxman about the 8% simple intrest. Can anybody explain this to me please, I get all flustered on the phone lol:o0
