PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

My offer from Barclays was £5700 and the letter informed me I had to inform the taxman about the 8% simple intrest. Can anybody explain this to me please, I get all flustered on the phone lol:o
If you are a taxpayer then you need to contact HMRC, tell them the 8% amount and they will help you.
If you are a non taxpayer, you do not need to do anything if the 8% amount does not take you over your tax allowance or you do not work at all.0 -
YEAH!!!! :T
I feel like screaming for joy! We have just had our first offer through from Egg. It's taken less than 4 weeks...and when we sent the letter we didn't even have the account number!
total amount of PPI paid £2372.49
plus interest on premiums paid £604.31
plus 8% interest £1160.95
Total amount of compensation £4137.75
Thankyou Martin and team :rotfl:
I wasn't going to drink tonight but I've now changed my mind!:beer:0 -

Oh, and I forgot to say, this one is for my fiancee's loan, we still have mine to come back yet (sent on the same day to Egg as well)
So fingers crossed everyone0 -
After a success from Barclays yesterday, a rejection today. Letter straight to ombudsman.0

Today I plucked up the courage to put in my ppi claim to Halifax for 4 secured loans we have had (2 still running) over the last 10 years. Just phoned them and they asked for account numbers (which I gave them). No questions were asked. They said they would send a letter to acknowledge my claim within 5 days and I would receive a decision within 8 weeks. I really hope that they will be upheld0

just a quick question on this
i note on the original letter you can send to the bank you can tick for somebody else on your behalf?
am i ok to do this on behalf of an elderly and confused family member? id rather not use a claims company but wanted to check i could write on there behalf.
also is it worthwhile sending a simple letter even without account numbers on to set the ball rolling?
many thanks in advance0 -

I believe the elderly member of your family would have to tick and sign the box to give you authority! Not the other way around.
BUT DO NOT USE A CMC. (---- --- -

Hi there
Congratulations - I am very encouraged to hear FOS have up held your complaint.
Would it be ok for me to ask how you applied for your MBNA cards and the circumstances around your case?
MBNA have refused to uphold my complaint on the grounds that I signed the PPI agreement in 2001 which strongly recommended I took out the cover. It was not an advised sale. I agree I am daft for doing this but I was not aware that you could shop around or more importantly that I was better covered by my NHS benefits. I have also subsequently discovered that MBNA would not have even paid out if I had had to claim, because of my NHS sick cover etc! The copy of my agreement showed I had written NHS three times on the form!!
I have now gone to the FOS with this. Incidentally how long did it take?
:rotfl:well done again
Hi moose2003
I've received a letter from the FOS this week upholding my claim against MBNA, their original refusal was that it was non advised as i took it out over the web, i'm now waiting for an offer letter they have 10 week from next Friday to send the offer to me.
timescales - e-mailed FOS in early March, letter received this week upholding complaint, did get an update a few week ago where the FOS stated they had the info from MBNA and would be scanned in but this happened a lot sooner than i thought it would0 -

You will have to thoroughly research the account numbers, dates and circumstances of your relative's alleged mis-sale to have any chance of a successful complaint.
A claims company requires you to do this also; they complain on your behalf but they don't do your research.
