PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • I originally wrote to MBNA mid Mar2012 and got a refusal on my credit card (settled 2006 in full) on the PPI claim.

My refusal was a standard one that others have shown on here, confirming that i had ticked an on-line box when applying.

I wrote back confirming that i did not need this insurance due to savings, sick pay 6 months full, followed by 6 months half pay through work and then gave them 14 days to reconsider.

They refused the claim again yesterday and so on to the ombudsman we go. (i note that over 90% of MBNA cc ppi claims get upheld through this route, so i feel im just getting the run around)

It just takes so long ... and the waitng is killing me!

I also have 5 loans and a credit card claims with LLoyds also....

They sent me a letter last week saying that they were 4 weeks and half way through the investigation... the loan ppi's were front loaded, so must have a good chance ?)

Does anyone else feel really angry at the time this takes and how the banks can just keep you hanging on when its really OUR money!!!!

  • HI

The number I phoned was 0871 522 5167 and it's for the card complaints team. The address to write a complaint to is: Santander Cards, PO Box 700, Leeds, LS99 2BD

    Best of luck x

JUst gave them a call. Very nice girl on the phone took my compliant over the phone and informed me there was PPI on the account that has now been cancelled.
Said they would send me a letter in the next 5 days to say the investigation was open and that they have 8 weeks.
    Very easy indeedy!!

Also heard from NatWest yesterday that a offer letter is winging its way to me for the sum of £3000. :j

I am considering using a third party to reclaim my PPI. I have had various loans, mortgages, store cards and credit cards over the last 14 years but have also been known by my maiden name and two married names and lived at 8 different addresses. My Experian credit report could only find my details for the last 3 years so I wonder whether a third party organisation would be better to gather all of the information for me. Anyone been in a similar boat?

    Thanks!

Although I am not using anyone to help me claim, I believe these companies (or leeches if you prefer) ask you to collect all your details together anyway, and there is paperwork you have to fill out. Plus, do you really want to give up 30% of what you could get!?
I would just really get your thinking cap on and try to remember who you have had some loans/cards with, you could always call them and ask them if they have you under your old name etc

You're right - I will start going through my old bank statements and see if I can find the paperwork at home.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jessaranda,

You wil be surprised how much paperwork etc you will find once you start looking:)

This PPI reclaiming gets under your skin:rotfl::rotfl:

I'm glad you have decided not to use a claims company.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Amersall :) Does it matter that the box was ticked for BP on one cc account even though i can't remember doing this.? I am a civil servant i wrote that on my complaint form that i get a very good sick pay etc, maybe its worth mentioning again.

Write back and reject the reason they gave for not upholding, they cannot use the fact that they " provided full terms and conditions ".
You need to show that you could have paid these cards should the worst happen, ie, a good sickness package, life insurance even savings, show you did not need this PPI.

It does not matter if the box was ticked, tell them they cannot use the fact they gave you info regarding this as a reason to reject, use this and also the fact you could pay this back without the need of any insurance.
    Good luck.

You will get all the help you need for free on this site, just yell :D
If you know any of the banks you were with, then pop into a local branch and ask if they can find you, or call them, you never know what you can find until you try.
