  • hi all, some advice please. I have jumped on the PPI reclaiming bandwagon. I was 100% convinced I had never paid PPI so never bothered checking but when my sister told me she had 11 when querying I thought why not check?! Yes I have two with Lloyds TSB totalling nearly £5k PPI, two with egg (loan and credit card) and one with M&S. They won't tell me at Egg and M&S how much I paid. Anyway Egg have sent me the forms to fill in and to tell them why I think I was missold PPI. To be honest I am pretty sure I did know there was PPI on the credit card so would they have just added it in without me knowing? For the loan I honestly can't remember but I know I would never have willingly taken out PPI as I got full pay from work if I was off. I don't know whether it was added without me knowing or I was told I had to have it to have the loan. What is the best thing to say?

Lloyds have written to me to say they have nearly come up to the 8 week limit for making their decision but need another 8 weeks. Has anybody else had this?

Well done to everybody who has reclaimed, great that the greedy banks are doing the right thing!!
  • Just had 3 letters from Halifax, totalling £6000!!:j

But...read on the small print that tax will need to be declared to HRMC - which works out about £500 on the 8% interest added element.
Glad I read this as could easily have spent all this and be owing the tax man more..

Still awaiting replies from Barclaycard, m&s, nram and tesco bank.

Fingers crossed as still got loads to pay off...every penny counts!

Thanks MSE for giving me the ammo to do this though:T
  • is it just the interest you pay tax on? How do you declare this to the tax man?

    Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had setled their PPI Reclaim with NatWest over the phone?
I sent a questionaire with all the details and also included a copy of my marriage certificate (married since the loan) but they have replied to say they cant find my details and if i have changed my name etc in the past to let them know. Shocking!!!!
They gave me a freephone number to call so was going to call them.
The account was closed in 2008.
  • Hello,

I filled out the template letter and sent my complaint to Barclays around 6 weeks ago regarding 2 loans with PPI from 1994 through to 2003. I recieved their initial response and in turn filled out their questionnaire.
My loan details were roughly, Loan payments £154, which I believe at least £53 of which was PPI for those 9 years.

They replied yesterday with what looked like a standard final response letter informing that with everything considered they did NOT think I had been mis-sold my PPI policy. !!!!!!?
They admit I had one but are adamant it was NOT mis-sold, despite the fact that nobody knew ANYTHING about PPI insurance on loans in 1994. In any event, I was a bit down at getting this response because I mistakenly believed Barclays had come to some kind of agreement to settle these claims, clearly mine doesn't fit the criteria.

Please please please can someone reassure me that this is not necessarily a bad thing and that I will still stand a good chance if I go to the Ombudsman?

I have loan references and bank statements but don't have PPI insurance documents. In their response, Barclays have in essence admitted I had PPI though, rather that It was not mis-sold.

Would be grateful for any advice or guidance or tips in my complaint to the ombudsman.

    Thanks alot for your help!

    Hi there

A Subject Access Request (SAR) may be useful to you, this is an optional request for your data, they have 40 calendar days to comply, you enclose £10 cheque or postal order, and there is a letter template for the data request below, if you had so many accounts with the same business, then one SAR is sufficient, with the one stated payment as above.
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553

Sometimes, SAR gives info of the sale of the policies, how it was sold to you etc, although not always.

In your case as you are not fully sure if there was PPI, then it may have been automatically added perhaps.

Good luck, please keep us posted, cheers.:)

Yes the tax is interest payable, but sometimes the bank/business automatically does deducts, if they do not, they will confirm, and enclose contact details of the HMRC, you would then contact the number they given (if they've not enclosed the HMRC direct number, contact the bank and they will confirm on the phone), you can arrrange directly with them how you want it deducted, maybe tax code, so you pay bit by bit, or all in one go, it will be your choice.

    Good luck.
