PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I didn't want to post on here until I actually had the money in my bank, but just to say I have successfully managed to claim back far more than I expected from First Direct.
When I phoned them about my loan from the mid 90s, they were incredibly helpful, looked up my details for me, because funnily enough I don't still have the paperwork, and told me that I had paid PPI and if I wanted to claim the address was on their website.
I downloaded and completed the form from here, sent it off, and got a letter back telling me they would look into it and get back to me within 8 weeks.
Less than 8 weeks later, I got a reply telling me that I was due £9200 back. Not only had they looked at the loan I told them about, they had also included other smaller loans I hadn't even remembered. I was expecting a few hundred pounds. What a result! The money was in my account within a couple of weeks. I always rave about First Direct to everyone, and stupidly, felt a bit bad about claiming from them, but they couldn't have been more helpful.
Shame I can't say the same about Next Directory, who have been remarkably unhelpful.
I had a big win against FD as well. Strangely, they also uncovered a whole load of loans I couldn't remember. Because they were/are a telephone banking service, you had to ring them to arrange a loan. I had 7 loans over the years, and there's no way I rang them that many times about loans. Anyway, congratulations on your win. But before you start feeling too sorry for them, it's worth remembering that they did mis-sell you the policy in the first place, and then proceeded to help themselves to large amounts of your money that they weren't entitled to.:beer:0 -
Hi All....
Can anyone give me their thoughts on the below....
1. In April I attempted to claim my bank charges back from Barclays and after two attempts accepted not being successful as I did understand their reasons. However I have banked with Barclays from 18 up until 2009 and had many other potential claims to look into.
2. At the end of April, I put in a claim for overdraft protection, it was acknowledged saying I would hear something by the 28th May, my initial claim was with the FOS form attached.
3. On the telephone call I had about the claim for bank charges I happened to mention this other claim and was told they had no trace of it but would look into it.
4. Next I received an acknowledgement letter based on a completely new claim number for the PPI claim which looked like it was set up after my conversation with the lady about the bank charges and they were asking for the FOS form.
5. I rang them and advised them that this was the same claim as the first and they confirmed they had received the first with the FOS form and would match them both up.
6. I chased again end of May to be told the first claim had been closed and they were looking into the other. I advised them that meant they had started the same claim from fresh three weeks later than the original and this would delay the result. They said they would note this on the account.
7. Today I have received a letter telling me linking my ppi claim to the original bank card claim which they rejected telling me that they had dealt with this early May........ oh my god!!!!
8. In addition to this I received back from my SAR letter a number of accounts which I sent a letter for asking to claim. They have sent me about 8 FOS forms to complete with claim numbers on but have not put which forms associate to which accounts, another stalling tactic I feel.
I am thinking that I need to put a very long letter together highlighting each claim number and explaining it all as if they were children.
Has anyone else had this sort of problem with Barclays??? What do you recommend.
I a good note Egg confirmed yesterday that I had won my first claim on my Egg Loan for upfront sold PPI not sure how much yet but patience is certainly a virtue where PPI is concerned:p:p:p:p0 -
Hi Everyone
Just got a ppi settlement from barclays worth £1500 but i am not sure if this is only for six years so they will be called as soon as possible as it was on my overdraft for 14 years,:T:T:T:T:T:T0 -
I have not and had not given my permission for my money to be paid to anyone else0

Hi, Capital One did exactly the same thing to me. Told me my signature didn't match then told me to ignore this letter as they verified my ID over the phone and said that my complaint would be worked on that day. They then turned me down stating I had requested PPI and they never pre-ticked PPI sections on forms as they are a reputable company (even though they've been fined so not that reputable!). They sent me a copy of my agreement with an X next to the PPI section and a tick at the signature section for the card and another tick at the signature section for the PPI. The ticks and X were added by them! Not sure how that means I requested PPI but there you go!
Will now be making a complaint to FOS.
I've read many times about them writing to people stating signatures don't match so think this is just a delaying tactic they are using!
thanks for your reply, i will see what happens when he rings and then we may have to take it further by the sounds of it. :beer:have now given up smoking since feb 13th 2014 loving the money I'm saving0 -
Took out a PPI with Lloyds for £6,282 and sent a claim in about 6 weeks ago. I today received a cheque for £1,240. I was hoping for a bit more than this but I suppose something is better than nothing.0

You get the PPI back that you paid, if the loan ran to term you get the whole PPI back, if the loan was settled early you get the whole PPI back less the rebate they gave you when you settled, less the PPI that you did not pay.
The redress is on the amount of PPI and not the total Loan amount.0 -
Hello,
Wonder if you can help?
I made a claim for my Capital One credit card. They have upheld my complaint, but have not given me the 8% interest. I have a look around the MSE site and cannot see this being mentioned before. The exact wording is
We are only required to offer the additional 8% interest when an account would have generated a credit balance had PPI not have been charged, if we are not offering any 8% interest this is because we do not believe your account would ever have been in credit had PPI not been charged.
Now it is not a huge amount but this seems a little unfair. Should I just accept the money, or should I complain.
Thanks
