I am preparing my letter to the Financial Ombudsman Re: PPI Rejection letter from Nationwide. I have had sound advice from Amersall on this forum, regarding pursuing my complaint, but i am still not sure what i need to include in my letter. As advised, I am enclosing copies of all the letters I have received from the Nationwide regarding my complaint, and my reply to them. I have downloaded the Ombudsman Complaint Form. Do I need to give any other specific details in my letter? I read an article online, stating that the Ombudsman does not look favorably on template letters, but much prefers to hear our individual human stories - i.e. our struggles, the situation we find ourselves in etc......Is this really necessary? I had planned to keep it short and to the point, enclosing all necessary documentation, with a cover letter, having completed all the necessary paperwork previously. I would be grateful for some help with this.
It does not have to be the magna carta :D as you have done the questionnaire already that is fine, on the covering letter just give the facts and make it straight to the point, just the reasons why you are rejecting the offer will suffice, you could just send the letter with copies of the rejection from NW, they may then ask for the questionnaire, so you may as well send the template and your additional letter.

Is it just me or does anyone else find that waiting for payment or waiting to hear about ongoing claims is torture??!!
Please tell me I'm not the only person logging onto online banking about 5 times a day hoping to find a little 'windfall'!

The wait is terrible! If I'm at home I can't concentrate until the postman has been! I'll be working away for a week in June when I estimate I'm due to hear from one of my claims and it's going to drive me mad

"I discovered how usless PPI was about 10 years ago, I had a HSBC credit card which I defaulted on when my contract ended in my employment, I tried to claim through the PPI, I was told that I couldn't because I still lived at home with my parents, my Dad gave them some very choice words, but they refused to refund the PPI and sent me to a debt collectors. I think this was too long ago to claim and I don't have any of the account details, can anyone advise? "

Is it true they don't pay out if you live with your parents? If so I should never have been recommended to take out PPI as I've never left home, should this be taken into account or is it untrue?

I telephoned Lloyds to enquire how to get my old loan info a few weeks ago and they started a claim then. I was so stunned that the only thing I mentioned was that when I took my original loans out I was under the impression that I couldn't get a loan without PPI, however after I received my letter of acknowledgement I telephoned to let them know worked for a University then the health service, both of which at the time never ever made people redundant, if there were problems you were redeployed but redundancy packages were excellent in the unlikely event you were made redundant and would have covered my loan. I had Critical Illness Cover, Life Insurance and Income Protection cover. which I took out in my bank after speaking to Scottish Widows reps on bank recommendation.

I've heard nothing since my phone call to them (I also e-mailed this info).

I'm now waiting to hear back from the bank with a decision.

Keep your fingers crossed and well done to everyone with success stories. I'm hoping to get a nice surprise before my daughter goes off to university in September.

Thanks for the wishes dolphingazer....things are definitely looking up after hitting rock bottom. Gona treat our little lad to a stay over at Alton Towers once we get the money through (not going to tell him). Off to Zante in July (courtesy of my mum and dad as my mum was 60 and wanted to pay for us all a family holiday together) but at least we can enjoy it properly now. Hope they send the cheque quickly.

On 15th December 2010 I received a letter from the Halifax Administration Unit informing me that I currently paid a standing order of £15.15 per month for insurance that was no longer valid. This was because the Halifax mortgage it related to was repaid on the 6th September 2002. The letter stated that the policy was arranged in respect of my original mortgage only and should have ended when that mortgage redeemed. However due to an administration error from the Halifax that didn’t happen and they were putting this right now.
There was a cheque for £1974.01 to refund all the mortgage repayment insurance policy premiums paid since that date. This came as a huge shock because I was unaware that this policy existed. This only came to light after having a savings review at my local branch and I wanted to know what out-goings I was paying.
I was very grateful for this unexpected windfall at the time and was much needed to replace an old boiler. However as time went by and hearing more and more about misold ppi I decided I would check into this further. It has taken me a further one and a half years to get around to actually filing a complaint with the Halifax and the Bradford & Bingley for misold mortgage payment protection insurance.
As with most people you often do not have the time or you dont think you have a case. I even contacted a claims company to act on my behalf. However i realised that the form they wanted me to sign was virtually the same as the standard template off the money saving expert website plus they wanted 30% of any successful claim. So I decided I would go it alone.
I sent out the letter of complaint on the 16th March 2012 using the information provided on this website along with another complaint to the Bradford & Bingley also for misold mortgage payment protection insurance both for simliar reasons where i was unaware of the policies. The following week I received confirmation letters informing me that my complaints had been registered.
Approximately 8.5 weeks later on May 16th and 17th 2012 I have had both complaints upheld.
Halifax £6275.60 and Bradford & Bingley £1939.29 this includes the premiums and interest at 8%.
With the Halifax i do not need to do anything and payment will be made within 28 days unless i do not want to accept the offer. Where as the Bradford & Bingley I have to complete the acceptance note enclosed.
I am really chuffed with the outcome and would encourage anyone to look into misold ppi further but also there is no need to use a claims company as you have all the information you need from this website.
Thankyou for all advice posted on here it is certainly appreciated and worthwhile in my case.
In total £10188.90 for looking into this further. What have you got to lose?
