What were you reclaiming: (eg. loan, credit card, store card)
PPI on a £15k unsecured personal loan
Who was the provider: (e.g. Capital One, NatWest)
Barclays Bank
How much did you get back:
£4200 plus amount of PPI premium and interest removed from total loan outstanding. This included 8% statutory equivalent, and although Barclays initially stated they would refund to the loan balance, they easily agreed to refund part to me as a lump sum and part to the loan balance.
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman:
Letters only
And then write your brief reclaim tale
I sent a modified version of the initial template letter on 30th October 2008, had a couple of 'we're dealing with your enquiry' updates in return and made a couple of calls to chase (Barclays were quite helpful and told me on the couple of occasions that I called how far the team dealing with PPI claims had got e.g. September claims). I finally sent the second template letter threatening the Ombudsman, and got a call to say I would have a full response within a week, which turned up as promised agreeing to a full refund and amendment to the existing loan. Apart from the time it took, it went very smoothly!
Martin, thanks so much - it wouldn't have crossed my mind without your alert, and it's going to make a lot of difference to my attempts to get debt free.0 -

- What were you reclaiming: PPI on Credit Card
- Who was the provider: was A and L now MBNA
- How much did you get back: Yet to be detailed but all premiums plus interest plus VAT plus 200 for stress and inconvenience
- Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: FOS
- And then write your brief reclaim tale
Took it to the FOS was told it was out of the 6 month date but was able to prove that the lender was aware that I did not want them to "put the files back".
Been with them since about June last year.
The PPI was sold over the telephone in April 2005. They seemed to have lost the recording of the conversation:rolleyes: . There had been medical problems plus Self- employment. Also FOS wrote "MBNA were asked to provide copies of the relevant sales scripts that it issued to its sales staff from time to time. I have seen a document that MBNA says was the sales script for the period when this sale was made. It is a relatively brief document and is not very detailed in setting out the approaches its sales staff should take. In my experience it seems unlikely that in practice this was followed word for word"
There follows quite damning information about the way that policies were sold and the lack of information and paperwork that are evident.
Anyway am really pleased with this although not mine personally as I was claiming for somebody else.:mad:0 -

Hi can anyone give me some advice. I took out a loan in 2003 and restructured the loan in 2005. My payments were £40.00 ppi a month for 5 years. I have received a letter form Nat West today and they have said that they are not going to upheld my complaint but have offered me £750.00 good will offer for each policy total £1500.00. I still feel unhappy as i really wanted all the money back that i paid. Would you advice me to carry on and go to the financial Ombudsman and how do i go about this ?
If you don't accept the offer, then natwest can withdraw it, therefore if the FOS do not find in your favour, you have lost the offer made. Company's basically make token offers as it currently costs £450 for a complaint to be investigated at the FOS. Also if you complaint cannot be looked at by the FOS Natwest again might withdraw your offer.

I decline PPI mis-selling claims for a living, but am willing to help when I think claimants need good adviceI tell ambulance chasers where to go for a living, but am willing to help genuine claimants0 -
