Thanks, yeah it's been about 8 weeks now
I'm trying to call them, but I keep getting given wrong numbers and I'm on payg. So the 8min wait on hold is eating up all my credit! grrr. No home phone so can't call any 0800 numbers.Debts to date: A&L Loan: Paid Off!, :TMMU:Paid Off!, :T
Student Loan £10,000(+4,000 in interest)£14,000, :rotfl:
NHS Bursaries: Paid Off! :T0 -
Thanks to the advice and information on this website, I have successfully claimed PPI from my Egg Loan. :j I got an Egg loan of 12 grand 4 years ago and was told during my application that I would have more chance of being accepted if I took on the PPI. I never actually needed the PPI at all due to other insurance and the job I have but it's amazing how one can fold under the pressure applied by the loan companies - they know how to sell it to you!
I wrote the first stage letter to Egg using Martin's template on the 16th Jan 09. I had a reply within a week merely saying that they were sorry to hear of my complaint and that they would contact me in due course to discuss it. I then received a letter around the middle of February explaining that my complaint was still being dealt with and that I would hear from them within the 'next 4 weeks'. On Friday (Red Nose Day), I checked my Egg account on line and discovered with surprise that my Loan balance was reduced! I received a final letter from Egg Saturday 14th March explaing that a full refund of PPI (£1720.69) had been credited to my account which included interest accrued of £303.49. Result! My monthly premium has been reduced from £407 pcm to £300. I was so surprised by the result but absolutely delighted and now it really will make a difference to my monthly budget!
I think Martin should get a Knighthood for the work he does to help the 'wee man' against the big corporations and companies who are so good at fleecing people out of their hard earned cash. I have to compliment Egg in the way they deealt with my complaint too - painless and no stress involved - unbelievable.
If anyone else is just at the 'thinking about it stage' go for it! Follow the instructions provided at moneysavingexpert - you can't go wrong.:T
Thanks again Martin - and say hi to Lorraine for me!:beer:0 -

Hi there
I know its an offer which is a good start, but there is obviously a difference in the amounts.
I would ask them again if they could higher this, if not then yes move this on to the FOS.
Its up to you, but if they stated that is their Full and Final offer, you need to take this to the FOS now.
You can download a complaints form here:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
Or give them a ring in order to have a form posted to you.
Also enclose a copy of the final letter with the complaints form to the FOS.
You could get some photocopies done, keep one for yourself and also send one to Nat west, make them aware you have now moved your complaint onto the FOS for them to investigate and you enclose a copy of your complaints form for their records, (it may help your case, but cannot guarantee it, if it does then let the FOS know).
Good luck and if you need further help, let us know.;) XThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
What were you reclaiming: (eg. loan, credit card, store card)
PPI on a £15k unsecured personal loan
Who was the provider: (e.g. Capital One, NatWest)
Barclays Bank
How much did you get back:
£4200 plus amount of PPI premium and interest removed from total loan outstanding. This included 8% statutory equivalent, and although Barclays initially stated they would refund to the loan balance, they easily agreed to refund part to me as a lump sum and part to the loan balance.
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman:
Letters only
And then write your brief reclaim tale
I sent a modified version of the initial template letter on 30th October 2008, had a couple of 'we're dealing with your enquiry' updates in return and made a couple of calls to chase (Barclays were quite helpful and told me on the couple of occasions that I called how far the team dealing with PPI claims had got e.g. September claims). I finally sent the second template letter threatening the Ombudsman, and got a call to say I would have a full response within a week, which turned up as promised agreeing to a full refund and amendment to the existing loan. Apart from the time it took, it went very smoothly!
Martin, thanks so much - it wouldn't have crossed my mind without your alert, and it's going to make a lot of difference to my attempts to get debt free.0 -
