I've been lucky and managed to claim back over £16,000 from Lloyds TSB and Halifax for loans. I've had to write to FOS about a couple of loans where Halifax have refused to pay out. I realise that I might have to wait a very long time...in excess of a year possibly.

Anyway, I wonder if I could help me with this request please. I'm not sure if I had PPI on credit cards. Could you tell me what I should be looking for on my credit card statements? Would it say PPI or something else? I have had credit cards with Lloyds since 1998. I believe that I might have had it in the early days. Also, I had a card with MBNA from 2001 and I believe that I may also have had it with that. I noticed on an old MBNA statement that it said Card Protection. Is this something else?

I know that companies are supposed to write to customers, past and present, advising them if they had PPI but I won'tt hold my breath. Also, I have moved several times since the 1990s so I doubt if I'd receive the correspondence anyway.

Your support would be appreciated once more. Thanks.

Card protection covers the cost of any items you have bought using the card, ask the CC company for the details of this cover, I don't think this is PPI as it is covering goods and not you personally.

If you have PPI it will show as a separate payment on your statement each month, if there is another payment going out besides the usual monthly payment and the card protect this could be PPI.

Banks do not have to write to all customers, it depends I think on the year the loan was taken out, No one has posted yet regarding CC companies contacting them.
  • Made one phone call March 12th had no documentation / account number etc - Just the 4 digits from an old bank statement.
Halifax confirmed i had PPI on my loan back in 2004 - loan fully repaid in 2005, They said that i would hear from them within 7days
Received a letter confirming they were investigating the Misselling of PPI March 19th and that i would hear the outcome within 8 weeks.
Yesterday 23rd April i had the letter to say they were upholding my complaint.
Says i will receive a cheque within 28bdays
    for £1690.00

As it looks like a full redress i will now sit and wait for the cheque to arrive -
Hooray one down several more to go.
Thank you MSE and the experts on the forum for your advice and support and to all posters who were asking the same questions as me - good luck:

    Congratulations on your win!

Could I just ask what your reasons for it being missold were??

    Thanks
  • Ive put a claim in from 2005 can I claim back further than that? The claim was a joint one with ex partner, do I have to provide his details or can claim alone?
  • Hi first time post.
Just plucked up the courage to complain about ppi on two loans. One with A&L and the other Abbey

We were told both times that we had to have ppi to get the loan.
With the abbey one we deliberately didn't tick the box for ppi, but the forms came back with a note to say if we don't tick the box we couldn't have the loan!! So for two years we paid the ppi (£101.25) which was included in the monthly payment. Then I tried to cancel but was told " oh no you have to get a new loan without ppi"
After loads of back and forth letters they just reduced the payment by £42 so we carried on and this is now all paid .
They were both front loaded so I live in hope.
It's been two weeks since posted so I'll keep you posted

I understand what you are saying and if they upheld they should compensate something, ring the FOS and ask them.

Good luck and let us know how you get on, it could help others.

Just to let you know, the bank in question rang me yesterday and said they would not offer me anything as they have no proof of how much PPI I paid for the 3 years for the credit card.

I asked them to consider a GOGW payment as they have upheld the complaint, they said no and that I was welcome to go to the FOS.

So called them up, case has been opened and they are sending me some forms through the post.

Fingers crossed, not sure how this is going to go though.

Some have won mis sell with loans from the 90s so if you have the account number and reasons for mis sell then put a claim in.

With joint loans they need both signatures, if you win redress the redress will be in joint names to go to a joint bank account.

Sorry to hear this, they upheld your claim but have no proof you paid PPI, why did they not just reject this due to there being no proof? what idiots  hope the FOS make sense of this.
Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
