  • After numerous phone calls from firms offering to take on a PPI claim on our behalf, we decided to look into completing a claim ourselves.

We used the MSE website & filled in the simple Financial Ombudsman form to submit a claim to Halifax on behalf of my wifes credit card, which she has had for years.

Sent it off with a 52p postal cost & within 4 weeks, my wife had an offer of £7231.00.:T
It is so easy, do it yourself....!

I'm wondering if aybody can help. I had complained to Barclaycard about PPI for a Barclaycard cc and Egg cc. After emailing CEO about length of time I had waited received letter saying Egg cc they couldn't find any info on but if I could provide any further info they would look again. Unfortunately I don't have statements, policy numbers etc. Barclaycard cc was rejected due to being postal application and they say I opted for it. This was their final response and I could take to FOS if not happy. This was taken out in 2003. I then sent a SAR but on receiving there are only statements from Barclaycard cc going back to 2006. My query is surely if they could tell me my application was postal and I had ticked the box for PPI I should have received a copy of this? Should they not have sent me statements etc from Egg cc now Barclaycard. Would it be useful for me to send SAR to Egg? This cc was one that account was closed (but was still paying balance) before Barclaycard took over.

Sorry for so many queries but am seriously unhappy with Barclaycards customer service (by far the worst bank I have dealt with) and any advice would be gratefully received as not sure what my next step should be

    Hi Terence13

can i ask how long after contacting the CEO you received a response, i e-mailed a week ago but have heard nothing

I am absolutely gob smacked!!! I would never have had the confidence to write to the companies without MSE's guidance and Martin's tips/video; I was considering using a claim company. THANK YOU MARTIN AND THE MSE TEAM!!

I wish everyone else pursuing PPI complaints/claims all the best. Following Martin's and MSE's tips was easier than I thought.
  • I have already have a successful £4K claim from BOS for cc and have now received confirmation from black horse that we are due a refund of £2,600 for 2 loans, one used to consolidate the other. The original loan was taken out in 1996 and by luck we still had the paperwork which showed the PPI was front loaded. Just waiting on the money being paid in to our account which should hopefully be this week.
Also claimed for loan from BOS and received word last week that we are due £7,200:j. Received letter today advising that cheque will be with us within 7 days.
I also have a claim in for another BOS loan and preference account and have just received letters last week advising that they are looking in to our claims and we should receive their reply within 8 weeks.
We are now virtually debt free and looking forward to the future and will have some money in the bank for a change.
As previously stated by many on here, PLEASE DO NOT USE A CLAIMS COMPANY! You can do it yourself easily.
Thank you to all who have posted and who continue to give reassurance and advice. If you are unsure as to whether you should raise a claim, read through all the posts (as i have done) and get encouragement from them. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Thank You Martin Lewis xx :)

  • :) I have been thinking I should maybe try to make a claim for ages. As my loan with Lloyds TSB was well over 6 years ago, I really thought there was no point & it would be a long process with piles of paperwork. How wrong was I! Following the helpful advice on MSE I printed off the form & completed it. I received confirmation (& again thought that was all I would hear!)

6 weeks later I had an offer of £2640. All for an hour of my time locating paperwork etc. & cost of a stamp. I would urge anyone who thinks they have a claim to go ahead, do it NOW!! My experience was soooo staight forward. Please do not use a company to do this for you.:j

    Hi

I emailed and after about a week got my rejection re Egg cc saying they couldn't find a policy (although thye will look at again if I can find any paperwork!!). I then emailed again a couple of days after that for my other cc and about a week later got my rejection for my Barclaycard cc with (what I thought) a bit of a snippy letter and reasons why they rejected

    Good luck with yours

I've been lucky and managed to claim back over £16,000 from Lloyds TSB and Halifax for loans. I've had to write to FOS about a couple of loans where Halifax have refused to pay out. I realise that I might have to wait a very long time...in excess of a year possibly.

Anyway, I wonder if I could help me with this request please. I'm not sure if I had PPI on credit cards. Could you tell me what I should be looking for on my credit card statements? Would it say PPI or something else? I have had credit cards with Lloyds since 1998. I believe that I might have had it in the early days. Also, I had a card with MBNA from 2001 and I believe that I may also have had it with that. I noticed on an old MBNA statement that it said Card Protection. Is this something else?

I know that companies are supposed to write to customers, past and present, advising them if they had PPI but I won'tt hold my breath. Also, I have moved several times since the 1990s so I doubt if I'd receive the correspondence anyway.

Your support would be appreciated once more. Thanks.

Hi guys, i am after a bit of advice please.
I put in a claim for Mortgage PPI some weeks ago and have just receiced the letter telling me that they are not going to uphold my claim based on the following.
Nationwide claim that i was sold the policy via a 3rd party (mortgage broker) which is correct.
They also claim that the broker would have given us adequate leaflets/explinations as to what the policy covered and a cooling off period if we had decided we didnt need/want it.
I stated in my complaint that we would have been able to keep up the mortgage payments if either of us had become unable to work as we both receicve sick pay plus we have savings, but nationwide are now saying that maybe we dont have enough savings! (they have no idea what we have).
Plus, we have had 2 claims from the policy one when i broke leg and was unable to work for 8 weeks and another when hubby was in accident and was off work for 4 weeks.
When we took out this mortgage/poicies/insurances we were first time buyers and didnt really have a clue what we were doing so took all the advice from the broker.
Nationwide are also saying that they have looked at the paperwork provided to us at the time of the sale and the paperwork confirms that we requested the cover to be added to our account, they claim that they provided us with enough information at the time of the sale to enable us to make an informed decision about the poliy meeting our needs.
They also state in this letter that if i want to make a claim i should contact the mortgage broker who sold me the policy (no longer exsists).
They are telling me the fact that i have had 2 cliams on the policy the policy was therefore "suitable for my needs".
The letter ends with if i am dissatisfied with the result of the investigation we have the right to refer our complaint to the financial ombudsman service (leaflet enclosed)
Is this the usual sort of rigmarole that you have all been having or should i consider this the end of it and not bother taking it any further?

Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.
    thanks
