Just received £2365 from HSBC for refund of PPI mis-sold to me on my loan back in 2002. I only had to write once to HSBC using the first template letter and about 10 weeks later I have just heard that my complaint has been upheld.

I am delighted, thank you Martin Lewis!

Well done Henrysb Really pleased for you.

    Hi all,

I am hoping someone can please give me some advice as I am unsure what to do.

My boyfriend wrote to Natwest on 5th February to tell them that he had been missold his PPI. He currently pays £440 a month for a loan he took out with them in January 08 and for each payment of £440 - PPI is £105. He asked them to cancel it too.

He has received a reply back today from Natwest - 12th March, and they have said they are unable to uphold the concerns as he had a cancellation period and was advised correctly by the colleague in the bank who sold him the loan but as a goodwill gesture if he fills in the form he can have £750 in his account very soon. The thing is, even though this is lovely news - I am not sure what to do - whether he should take the £750 or ask for the full amount which should be more like £1470.

What should we do? If we say no to £750 could they then refuse to pay anything? Should he just accept the £750?

We would be very grateful for any advice you can give us. It is a big decision and a gamble that we don't want to lose out on.

    Thank you once again,

    K xx

Im awaiting my reaponse on mon for my complaint. They must be admitting some liabilty as why would they offer you 750.00?

I am happy to post another success with Lloyds tsb bank, today I have recieved a letter from the FOS stating

"You will be pleased to hear that following our intervention, Lloyds TSB bank Plc has told me that although it maintains its original view, it has agreed to settle your complaint on what it describes as a 'goodwill basis"

In addition O.o Lloyds TSB has agreed to pay you £200 for any distress caused .

    YAY roughly £550 altogether then!

I'm not surprised about them not wanting to admit miss-selling but its a good day all around.

Thanks as usual to everyone here, you guys know who you are, and I thank you every time cause I know you work tirelessly to help people.

    Go martin!

Well done melmoneysaver. Really pleased for you.

    Hi there hun

You can always write back to ask if they are willing to higher the amount first, then make a decision, I am aware this is probably a time consuming thing, where they have given you so much time to give them a response to this.

However, if your not happy you should still be able to take this to the FOS to investigate, but be prepared for a long wait.

Its up to you hun, apparently there have been some issues like this in the media over the last few weeks that this is so unfair for these finance companies just to be offering amounts on smaller offers.

Good luck with this hun, hope this goes your way.;)

Hi Di :-) Thanks for replying! Yes I am thinking that maybe if he calls them and explains that it should really be higher... it's worth a try! But like you mentioned a letter could take a while and we really could do with the money now. It's a tough decision... we will have to have a good think about it - but I will keep you updated with the response we get from Natwest with this.

    Thanks,

    K xx

    Oh Sue well done

    132. x 32 months =4224.00 (sorry thought we were in 2010) bad day at office. plus interest plus 8% nearer 6000. sorry about that. I have based it on how I guestimated my refunds and was near enough to the amount I received.

Yes I agree - it is a long letter and looks like they have investigated all aspects. They say they are unable to uphold the complaint and say their staff are fully trained etc... but actually the salesperson was pushy and we were led to believe that PPI was essential. But they say the offer of £750 is simply a gesture of goodwill and will be a final settlement if accepted and they do no accept liability... Just not sure what to do next... :-)

£5544.00 plus interest plus 8% (rounded up figure so you probably looking at 7,500 approx that is just a guestimate figure but should not be far off.:T
