    What were you reclaiming: Loans
    Who was the provider: RBS
How much did you get back: Total Refund Due - almost £3600
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: One phone call
And then write your brief reclaim tale: On 30th January I made just one phone call the the RBS PPI Claims Department firstly asking if I had paid PPI on my loans, which the person I spoke to confirmed I had, and I explained I had 2 jobs at the time and would not have needed the PPI as I had 2 incomes.

Within a week I had a letter saying they are looking into my claim and they would be in touch within 2 months.

On Thursday 1st March I received an envelope with 5 letters that all said "It has come to light that this loan forms part of a consolidated loan chain". And along with them came the 5 offers...

    £470.16 , £520.01 , £643.37 , £677.67 & £1279.57 :j

Today I had a text message saying that I should expect the money in my bank account within 28 days but I've just checked my RBS bank account online and I have 4 amounts in my account already (although they are the PPI part of the claims; £366.20 , £378.34 , £435.40 & £881.69). So, just waiting on the remaining £1500+ which is the interest part of the claim & one last PPI amount and then it'll all be over!

My RBS Overdraft is now paid, I'll be paying off my Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo credit card and closing the account and booking flights for me and my husband to spend Christmas in Canada with his parents!
Merry Christmas Martin! :xmastree: :xmassign: :xmassmile:snow_laug: :santa2: :xmassign: :xmastree:

  • That's great news, Laura.
Would you care to share the reasons you gave for the mis-sell?
I've done exactly as you did (in February) and I've had the acknowledgement letter, but not yet the follow-up. Did the second letter require any action from you, or was it just a courtesy telling you that they were progressing with your case?

I had a few reasons for the mis-sell - one, I had two jobs at the time (one full time and the other just 6 hours a week) and would have been entitled to sickness payments and redundancy payments. Also, at the time of taking out the loan, I was living with my parents, and had financial support. I also had a vague recollection of the person selling me the loan telling me that I would get a better rate if I took PPI as well, although I wasn't 100% sure and said that I wasn't sure if I had remembered this correctly or not.

The second letter I received was just a courtesy letter, apologising for not resolving the case yet and that I would be updated again within 4 weeks if it had not been resolved by then.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, it certainly does help as my reasons are very similar indeed!

  • Please have patience as i am new to this. I sent my complaint to HSBC just over 3 weeks ago. I was missold PPI on 3 loans in 2000, 2001 and 2003 due to having full sick pay for 6 months and 6 months at half pay. More importantly, on each occasion I was led to believe that the loan would not be approved if i did not accept PPI. I telephoned the complaints dept. today to ascertain with them exactly when my 2003 loan was paid off and they confirmed this to be Feb 2004.

The guy told me that a final response will be sent in the next few days. I asked if this was favourable and he said he was not allowed to disclose this. I am concerned as i am sure that i have read several posts on here where HSBC have confirmed that the complaint has been upheld and is with the redress dept. etc etc. Should i be worried or is this normal practice?

Well done for getting through to them on the telephone!
Wait for the letter before getting too worried or, indeed, counting your chickens;)

In a word, no, you would be wasting your time, i know it stinks! but there you have it, the broker sold you the loan and ppi not FP.

Having said that when did you take the further advance and did you do this with FP?.
It may help if FP did this directly with you.

Yes. FP have already made me an offer for the further advance and am just awaiting the check from them.
With regards to the other, will just have to wait and see if Lloyds and FOS are going to sort anything else

    Thanks

  • I have applied to HSBC through an Agency called Lewis Waterman over 12 months ago and all I keep getting back from the company is that it is taking up 18 months to hear from HSBC?

Has anyone else heard anything like this or know why it's taking so long?

    Thanks

    Hi Sarah-lou

I did reply to your other post but thought I'd mention here my claim with HSBC took 8 weeks from beginning to end.

I didn't go through an agency though, just sorted it out myself.
