Hello,
I'm very late into this PPI thing so would appreciate any advice. Firstly I have no paperwork at all regarding two loans I took out with HSBC, I don't even know if I paid PPI, pretty hopeless I know. The first one was about eight years ago and the other about four years ago. The second one I cancelled and got a loan from RBS to pay it off, the reason for this was that I got a motgage from RBS so decided to transfer the loan. Both were to pay off an escalating Visa credit card. I was pretty desperate so I would have signed anything, also when applying for my Visa card about twelve years ago and would also have signed anything. For most of the past decade my Visa card has been pretty much maxed out at between 4 and 8 grand, depending on my limit at the time. I still have the Visa card with HSBC with £5,000 on it, as there is no way I can pay more than the minimum so I quoted the number. I remember about four years ago they changed my Visa number though.
I went on the HSBC website and sent a letter to the address they gave me, I explained that I have been in the same job for nineteen years and pay an insurance policy through my work that gaurentees me twelve months sickness or redundancy pay, so did not need PPI.0 -
Sounds a decent offer klflosser, don't forget you have to pay tax on the 8% figure, phone HMRC and they will either alter your tax code or send a payment slip. Well done
Thanks for the advice. I will bank the cheque then. It was some old paperwork I hadn't expected to find so a bonus anyway.
As self employed I will be giving my accountant all my figures and will include it in my 2011-12 tax return.
Thanks again.0 -

I'm in shock - and not sure whether to jump up and down for joy yet - i need to check that i've got this right first!! One letter says as a goodwill gesture, they're awarding me £4,489.53. Wow.
Then the other envelope had 3 other offer letters in it, with offers for:
£545.60
£774.31
£1,945.32
They all have different loan numbers on them (my loan has been consolidated a few times so there are diff loan numbers although i only submitted the last one as it's all i had paperwork for) so am i right in thinking that they are awarding me a total of £7,754.76?
I'm so shocked but if it's true, it'll mean my £11k outstanding on the loan will be £3,245 and i can pay it off within a year! :T
Can i celebrate, is it really happening???? :j
Well done and yes that is the total :T0 -

From the figures you have quoted it works out that you were paying approx £7 per month PPI, it's a shame you don't have a single statement because you could compare this to the figure they are offering. Don't quote me on this but I think I read somewhere that they charge approx £1 PPI per £100 of balance, your balance was a minimum of £1,000 so that works out at approx £10 per month PPI so going by that the offer could be a bit low. Without your actual monthly PPI figure it's impossible to advise with any confidenceSuccesses

Hi davey bones,
I was in a similar situation to yourself, also with HSBC. I took a loan out in 2004, couldn't remember exactly when it had finished but thought 2007. Didn't have any paperwork as I destroyed it once the loan was finished. I called HSBC first and as I still have an account with them they were able to confirm I did pay PPI on that. I got a PPI questionaire (possibly from somewhere here, or on the HSBC website), filled that in to say why I thought I had been missold, sent a covering letter with my account details. That was on the 22nd Jan this year, I received an acknowledgement letter within a couple of weeks, another when my claim was 4 weeks old and on Friday I received a letter saying they were upholding my claim.
I wasn't sure if I had done the right thing as I didn't request a SAR from them, or any loan account details, but luckily as I have been a customer for about 14 years they found it all easily. I was considering using a claims company, and a few of my colleagues have done this, but it was all very easy to do, all at the cost of a stamp! I am a very happy bunny and this money will come in very handy for my upcoming weddingMFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -

Would you care to share the reasons you gave for the mis-sell?
I've done exactly as you did (in February) and I've had the acknowledgement letter, but not yet the follow-up. Did the second letter require any action from you, or was it just a courtesy telling you that they were progressing with your case?0 -
Thanks dills, I'm going to email them explaining that I feel that the offer is a bit low( if I can find email address) they said my card number changed so maybe they've only calculated from then, will see what they say and if they will recalculate x0

They may ask you to provide statements to back up a re calculation, having said that they could be trying it on and you may get a better figure if they see you are not going to roll overGood luck
