OMG I love MSE. Letter from MBNA today, they're going to refund my PPI payments on my credit card. Took a credit card out with Alliance and Leicester some years ago, it then changed to MBNA. They said when it changed that they gave me the chance to cancel my policy but I don't remember this so "as a gesture of goodwill they have arranged a refund of my premiums and associated interest" Only one letter sent about 2 weeks ago using template from here and I've got just over £6K:j They also said they are referring my complaint to A&L so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Martin Lewis you are the man:cool:

Just looked at my file this morning and realised I didn't even send a letter. When I rang and asked when my credit card started the guy asked if it was to do with PPI and said he'd start the claim then. did not ask any details but said someone would phone. No phone calls just a letter from them on Feb 23rd and now letter with refund details on 3rd March. I'm amazed and won't really believe until I get the cheque!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now off to chase down my Tesco credit card details as didn't know I had PPi on it until they sent me a letter saying they were changing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same with MBNA back in October when they assured me they would be liasing with A&L following a goodwill payment. A&L are now Santander with the bulk of my premuims paid to A&L. After 6 weeks of hearing nothing I contacted Santander who told me that they had heard nothing from MBNA - MBNA said they had transferred the details and it was nothing more to do with them. Santander could then find no details with regard to the credit card and it was only luck that I found an old card from A&L with the account number on it. At last I received a letter a few days ago from Santander saying that they were looking into my complaint - the complaint which I thought had started back in October.

Good luck with yours and just persevere

Followed all of the steps that Martin outlines.

Got £2,700 from Santander, easy process, didn't even fill out a form, did it all on the telephone.

Got £4,400 from a policy sold to us by Broker Ridge who were part of Barclays on a Endeavour Personal Finance loan.

Also helped parents with a HSBC claim, they got £4,400 too

Over £10k claimed back thanks to Martin!!!

  • I've read dozens of posts on here looking for help but can't find any.

After having success with halifax ppi on 2 credits cards totalling £164 it's spurred me on to look at my credit file to see if i have anything else.

I wrote the template to barclays a few months back and they've replied saying they couldn't find my details i could have sworn i had ppi on my loan and credit card but i've shredded the details as it was over 2 or 3 years ago. Does anyone know where i go from there? I have the account numbers and when they were opened etc.

As well as this could anyone tell me how to find out the account numbers of an old topshop card that i used to have. my credit file only shows the last 4 digits?

Any help would be greatly appreciated because i'm trying to save up to get married. I've stopped getting into debt it's just hard paying off for mistakes i made when i was younger!

    Hi katiejane123,
You say you wrote "the template" was this a SAR ? If not SAR Barclays for a one off fee of £10 and include the account number and dates in your SAR letter, as it was only 2 or 3 years ago it should be on file.
A good SAR template is here

1st post by dreamer, see what comes back from that.

Sometimes the last 4 digits are enough to get a complaint going, not sure who you should write to regarding Topshop now but if you can find out send a letter including the last 4 digits and your personal details at the time of having the card and see what reaction you get ;)
    Successes
    Sainsbury's/BOS £6,400 Paid :)
    MBNA £3,600 Paid :)
  • Thank you i've filled out the SAR and will post it monday. Topshop was GE Money when i took it out it's Santander now so i might just send it to their complaints and see what they say?
  • Am having real trouble claiming money ack from both Barclays and Halifax.

The loan with Barclays was from 2001 and I just got a straight no as it was before they had signed up to some agreement.

Halifax agreed to pay me £4300. They sent me a cheque for £1600 and that's been it. It's been 2 months now since I had the £1600 and every time I ring up I keep getting fobbed off with excuses that it's being escalated and they are very sorry it's taking this long.

I'm fed up now as I don't know what else I can do. I have it in writing they have agreed £4300 they tell me that's what I'm owed on the phone but still no money b

I don't know what else I can do.

    Hi

I didnt notice that when i complained in 2010, the amount paid was just for my final loan..

I sent a letter early feb to clarify expecting them to tell me where to go, i had a letter offering me £2020 off my arrears, i went back and said the interest I want myself... within 5 days had a new letter confirming premiums would go off arrears, and 8% interest will be paid to me. They say they forward the payment request to RBS to make payment. been waiting 2 weeks so far

Anyone dealt with Tesco to know how long payment may take?

You only need the Credit card number, this is tosh.
A Sar may work give it a go.

Was this card passed to Barclays?, if it was closed and not passed over then contact Egg.

    Thanks Amersall
This account was closed by EGG but still have balance on it so has been taken over by Barclaycard. Would it be Egg I SAR or Barclaycard. Sorry but I'm not very good with these things.
    Thanks again
