    • What were you reclaiming: Loan
    • Who was the provider: First Direct
    • How much did you get back: £6505.04
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: After one letter
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale:
I took out a loan of £15,000 with First Direct in November 2001. Added to the loan was a single premium PPI charge of £4313.22 (including interest). I didn't really wanted this insurance and thought that is was an necessary evil to get the loan. When I received the paperwork to sign the PPI option was pre-ticked so I couldn't change my mind. I repaid the loan early in January 2007 and received £237 as a rebate on the PPI insurance. I claimed the amount of PPI minus the rebate (£4076.53). I sent the letter along with copies of the loan paperwork, which fortunately I still had (for once it has paid off that I'm hopeless at throwing stuff out!), in December 2011. The claim was acknowledged quite quickly, saying the investigation would take about 10-12 weeks. I've just received an offer of £6505.04 (£4043.99 & £2461.05 (gross interest of 8% per annum)) which I'm accepting. :)

Bloody hell. I won. Its only taken 4 years..... but the FOS found in my favour. I just need to sit and understand all the blurb on the forms now (acceptance already ticked and stuck in a envelope, will go signed for delivery on Monday)

    HI Amersall.
Thanks so much for the information you gave me the other day, I have sent off my complaint and will let you know how it goes.
Can you just tell me, what does it mean by credit card being reset? Does it mean it clears what the balance is and whats left you get in refund?
I am so thick with these things, proably why I ended up in so much chaos in the first place. Trying to put things right though and MSE has been brillian.

:):):D If you win redress, they have to take the card back to the beginning to work out the ppi you paid and the 8%, you only get the 8% if your card over the period did not have a credit balance, the redress should be paid to you if you have no arrears on the card.

The 8% is taxable so you will have to contact HMRC to pay this tax.

Had a reply back from First Direct, for PPI on our Credit card (going back to 2003). They informed us that they will not refund the PPI as we had manually ticked a box on the documentation that was sent to us after applying online. Although a copy of the document was sent to us, we cannot recall that we had added this. (This could have been ticked by anyone)!

They have also advised that as we have had the PPI coming off the account, and that it showed on the statements. We would have been able to see the charge & that this would have given us "many opportunities" to make sure this was still required.

The statements never stated PPI - only BP premium costs. To be honest, don't think we ever knew what that was for and just thought it was an extra credit card charge. (This happens when you don't take charge of your finances properly) *Blagh*:(

Does anyone know if there is any hope of getting anything back by going via the Ombudsman?
If this was not the final response, then get back in touch with them, tell them this could have been a pre ticked box and on the statements it does not say ppi just BP premium, ask them to reconsider your complaint or you will take this to FOS as you were mis sold this insurance.

If it was a final response take this to FOS.

had an mbna credit card from approx 1998 i ticked the box asking for ppi to be added but when i made a claim in 2000/2001 ish after hurting my back they wouldnt pay out i tried to cancel the ppi after getting back to my work but was told that i would be better with it incase i had another illness
my marks and spencer ppi paid out as did my mortgage protection and car loan ppi
i recently sent a ppi complaint form to mbna and have just received their reply saying that as i asked for the ppi to be added i wasnt entitled to anything back and if i wanted to appeal through the fsa a leaflet was enclosed
    is it worth appealing?
Get back in touch with them and say you reject the reasons they gave for not upholding, use the reasons you stated above and look here for other reasons that may apply to you.
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-credit-card-insurance#step2
Ask them to reconsider this as it did not cover you when you were off work and ask them to respond in 14 days or you will take this to FOS.

After emailing Bob Diamond about the length of time it as taken for complaints about 2 cc (1 egg now barclaycard) came home to letter today re Egg card saying that they cannot find a policy in my name therefore complaint can't be upheld. If I can find paperwork, policy number etc tey will investigate but if not to view tis as a final response. Would a SAR show up PPI payments and include statements even though they were viewed online

Haven't heard from 2nd claim but do ave policy number for this so will email Mr Diamond again tonight (cc complaint I received answer for was sent in after this 1 and have policy number)

You only need the Credit card number, this is tosh.
A Sar may work give it a go.

Was this card passed to Barclays?, if it was closed and not passed over then contact Egg.
