PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi new to site and some help would be greatly appreciated.
Lovely reading so many success stories on here.
I've had five loans with HSBC dating back to roughly 2001 / 2002. All have had PPI on them. I raised a case with them over the phone the other week and they have sent me the consumer questionnaire to complete for each loan.
I called HSBC tonight to get ask for start dates for the loans and they were only able to give me the details for the last two. From memory one loan was consolidated into another until I finished paying them off last year. Does this mean I might have trouble with my claim and will each claim be dealt with seperately?0 -

If like you say all these loans are related to one another, complaining about the two you do have details for may link into the others. Go ahead and complain if you have grounds and see what reaction you get regarding the othersThe time frame may be an obstacle for the earlier ones but MAYBE not
Good luck

In my final response they advised that they only had the ability to look back to 2005 but that if I had any paperwork to support before then then I could submit for consideration. Hsbc customer service quoted 3 ppi plan numbers to me but couldn't give the dates and said the complaints dept would deal with everything else
Good luck on your journey x0 -
Hi All
Great to read all the success stories on here. It has got me back onto something I started over 2 yrs ago when i wrote 2 letters to MBNA to reclaim PPI and charges. Both letters were posted by recorded delivery in Oct 2009 and were delivered but I never got any response!!
So I rang MBNA today to ask for the exact address I should write to given that no-one replied to my 2 previous letters. The guy apologised and assured me that MBNA will now deal with this so I sent another letter today to reclaim charges (one step at a time) and if I have any luck with this I'll follow it up with a letter reclaiming the PPI charges.
Any advice from anyone re: MBNA would be really appreciated. Thanks0 -
My first post, so please excuse me if i have posted in the wrong thread. First may i say how wonderful it is to read all the success stories on here.
My question is, i took out a £20000 halifax secured loan in 2005 which was defaulted on, after 8 months i payed off the loan in full approx £24500 would this have included PPI or not as i have no paperwork and no longer bank with the Halifax.
Sorry again if its a stupid question, i am not financially savvy which is why i ended up wiyh this mess.0 -
I was not going to do anything about claiming the PPI on the loan I took from them in 2003 which is still active due to refinancing in 2006 because I didn't think i stood any chance of getting anywhere.
My partner kept going on about it, I saw Martin on one of the morning programmes and I started reading some of the stories on MSE website.
I called LLoyds TSB in late September to lodge my complaint and heard nothing until the first week in January. A letter which read we are making you an offer £10,735.48. I was speechless as you can imagine! The letter stated that if was happy with the offer not to do anything and they would pay the money into my bank account if it was still active if not they would send a cheque as soon as possible, so I didn't do anything. towards the end of January the online information on my loan changed and did not make any sense so I started chasing telling them that they should cancel the PPI and the loan should be restructure, they said they were working on it and for the moment they couldn't access the information on my loan and to call back in seven days. A few days later I received two letters, one saying further to your request to cancel the PPI bla bla bla and the other refering to a letter I never received but to please see below a cheque for £5,685.48 and the case was now closed. I did not know what to think except these !!!!!!!s are going back on their word and they are trying to rip me off! I decided to look at my loan information on line before calling them and it was showing -£32.12, I was so confused. I called them asking for an explanation only to be told that they had paid the loan off I said they have what? The settelment amount on my loan was of £8,666. they have actually paid out a total of £14,351.48 which is more than the original offer, apparently a letter had been sent to me explaining the situation the previous day (monday 13 February) I am still waiting for this letter, I have chased them and told them look I am not unhappy with the outcome but I wished I had been given the choice and besides the way this was handled was not in line with the offer made in their letter. I have not deposited the cheque yet. I want to see the letter and I am very curious to read what they have to say.
This is my first post, sorry it is a rather long one. Has something like this happen to anyone? i am happy but very confused!
Martin :money:thank you so much for all the information and to all that post their wonderful success stories and the sad ones tooL0 -

£1800 refunded to his account.
Could I just ask, was that for a Credit Card or Loan and how long did it take?

Thanks that's what I meant the reason so you were self employed and pre existing medical condition, was curious with it being so fast..well done again and thanks for the update
What were you reclaiming: Credit Cards
Who was the provider: MBNA, Halifax and LloydsTSB
How much did you get back: MBNA £13,586.05 Halifax £15,891.06 LloydsTSB Still waiting !
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Just sent FOS Form to each bank - DID NOT USE CLAIMS COMPANY !!!
And then write your brief reclaim tale
Just received a letter from Halifax Card Services offering £15801.06 - took much longer than MBNA - but still happy with result !!
That's nearly £30k for 2 10 minute forms ! - and waiting for LloydsTSB - which should be even more !
Good Luck - Keep on claiming - its worth it ! (Just don't waste 25 or 30% using a claims company - its so easy !)
Thanks also to everyone on the forum for encouraging me to give it a try !!

i submitted a claim with HSBC in October 2011 although didnt hold much hope as it was like 9 years ago, anyway they wrote back in November 2011 saying I didnt have ppi on my loan or credit card, but I was pretty sure that I had, anyway i left it and then 3 weeks ago I got a letter offering me £1000, I accepted and the money went in my bank today
Thanks for the useful website guys, and thanks martin! :money:0
