Was this a goodwill gesture? if it was they do not give you the 8%.
If this was not a goodwill then ring them up and ask what the 8% was,and to send you a breakdown in writing for HMRC. you only pay tax on this part.
Amersall thanks for your help. The letter said they upheld my complaint and have given a full refund of PPI premiums, together with interest paid on premiums, and 8% per annum simple interest as compensation. It then said that the 8% is paid gross and theirfore liable to tax but they give no breakdown.0 -

Hi yfmwok, you need to contact them and find out the 8% figure, otherwise you can't inform HMRC of the amount you need to pay tax on. I'm having to do similar myself at the momentIt's better to do it now you have the money to pay it rather than later when you may not have

I have already raised my complaint with M&S money and they have declined it as it was not covered by the FOS at the time. I have raised all the paperwork with the FOS and they have declined the complaint for the same reason but told me to pursue the insurance company Allianz which I have done. This has also been denied by the insurance companies so I have gone through the FOS aswell in August 2010. Every few months I get a letter from the FOS saying that they are still looking into my complaint. I have received another letter from the FOS as follows.
"We continue to consider the complex legal arguments involved. I am sorry, this is taking longer than we would like. But it is very important that we investigate thoroughly as we need to decide whether we are legally allowed to look into your concerns about the sale of your policy.
We will continue to keep you updated on our progress and we will write to you again by 30 November 2011."
Has anyone managed to claim against the insurance company vis M&S in the same way?
Today I have received a letter from the FOS stating loosely that they are not upholding my claim against either M&S or Aviva/Santander on the basis that I signed the form that was sent on both occasions and that although I was covered elsewhere the FOS believes I would not have acted differently. Anyone got any ideas what I can do now. I have been in contact with the FOS and was told that no decision would be made on this for several months until the test case for Project Atlantis had been out through the court. Wht have I received this letter if this was the case0 -

Thank you so much your site is so informative.

Hi,
Sorry I'm not very good at all these financial things, however I've got a small amount of PPI won back (which I'm happy with), but I notice that it seems that the HMRC must be called to declare.
I had a company do the PPI claim on my behalf (I know, I know) but I can't recall any breakdowns of costs, basically just the amount I'm getting and that's it. Will a breakdown come with the cheques so that I can call the HMRC back?
TIA

Hi
I have received an offer letter from the HSBC, and selected that some of the money will pay off my current loan with them and the rest to be paid into my HSBC current account.
Does anyone know how long this usually takes?0
