Claiming for ppi against 3 small loans and a credit card which has only a £1000 limit with HSBC
Sent the forms in January and received notification on Saturday that I am getting over £6000 refund...I am shocked and thrilled

well done santa - I have a claim in for mis-selling of PPI with hsbc- I called them to complain and they said I didn't need to fill in any forms or write to them and that they will do it all for me - had a c/card for 14 yrs - they have confirmed I was paying PPi but didn't ask me any questions on why I was complaining? how did you go about it please - many thanks - i still bank with them now

Thankyou, I complained that I has always been employed and my employee paid sickness pay and would have qualified for redundancy if it had occurred. I was trying to gain information as to the status of my claim and the telephone advisors could not help me and told me that the direct line quoted on the letter had been disconnect due to volume of calls so I email the CEO of HSBC and complained that my experience with Halifax was completly different. I received a response and payment within 7 days of complaining and was approx 5 weeks from start to finish. Good luck with yours

Yes you do have to inform HMRC harrpau7 but you only pay tax on the 8% standard interest, not the whole amount. HMRC will have been informed by the bank so don't risk it ;)

When/if I get a payout from RBS I understand that they are one of the banks that already deduct the tax (hope I've got that right) but I live day-to-day in and out of my overdraft and probably have done ever since I had a free overdraft applied to my bank account.

This would mean that I never had any savings and would have had the PPI monthly premiums in my bank account but still wouldn't have had a bank balance big enough to have earned interest. I love the way it is assumed that a person who has needed to get a loan would need to pay tax to HMRC.
Just my observations, I guess there's no answer!

  • What were you reclaiming:
    Credit card

    Who was the provider:
    Virgin (MBNA)

How much did you get back:
    £383.67 premiums, £93.71 interest on premiums, £265.67 8% interest
    Total = £743.05

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman:
FOS questionnaire sent to MBNA approx 4 weeks ago, a "we're looking at it response" ~2 weeks ago, Uphold received Friday.

There are various other accounts I've found but this is the only one they have responded to so far.

So HMRC are already aware then? I personally do not have to do anything?
  • Hi, I had a credit card with Barclaycard a number of years ago and detroyed all paperwork when the card was paid off. I can't remember if I took PPI out when I had the card. I have been in touch with Barclaycard who told me to send in a £10 postal order, which I did, and they said they should be able to release all paperwork so I could make my claim if there was one to be made. But last week they returned the postal order along with a letter telling me that I had to provide them with a credit card/account number before they can take the matter further as they can only check records if they have the number. Not sure what to do next, any help would be appricated.

Have you tried a free Credit check from Experian - That throws up a lot of info & can be very useful in these claims. (You must remember to cancel the Experian once you've used it/printed it). The - lengthy - Experian report shows last 4 digits of loans, cards, catalogues etc etc. That may be of some use...or at least a starting point to approach say, your bank?

I would just like to know if anyone can advise is this right , As reading stories on here people are being paid out a lot further back than that. thanks in advance .
