    Hi amersall

I got the letter today but nowhere on the letter does it say anything about it being before 2001 as the guy at barclays had said. Just the usual fob off letter saying they do not believe it was missold, anyway this is there 1st and final letter!! The fact that if id even known i had this i would have contacted them in 2008 when i was made redundant. Have rang the ombudsmen and they are sending me out a form and a questionaire!! Is this normal?
    Thanks for all your help

Hi,fill the questionnaire in from the FOS,put what was said to you regarding pre 2001,this is just to let the FOS that this was hinted at,you also would have made a claim had you known about it,so this will be in your favour.Enclose copies of the response from Barclays, then wait.

hi was wondering if anyone could help. 4 weeks ago i contacted halifax about claiming ppi from credit card. yesterday i received a cheque out of the blue from them without any other communication between me and them. is this right or should i challenge the amount? :)

They sometimes do this, you should receive a breakdown of what they are giving you shortly, give them a few days,if you do not receive this, you need to ring and ask them what it is for (could be goodwill gesture,or full redress) and how they worked this out.

Thankyou hope i am too. Will let you know.
  • Hi I'm fairly new to this so don't know if Ive posted in the correct way. I had a call off a company claiming they could help me get some PPI and credit card/bank charges back which they said I was entitled to, but I figured out after reading your forum that it may work out cheaper for me to do it myself. I think I understand the proceedure, however, I dont have any paperwork for any of the claims I wish to make, one is for a bank loan I took out with HSBC in march 2007 and I finished paying for that in september 2010, the other is for a credit card also with HSBC which I took out in 2004 and paid off in 2007 when I took the loan out. All I have is the last 4 digits of each account as I went on to one of the credit reference agencies and it gave me some details on there. I dont bank with HSBC anymore as they were chraging me extortionate rates for going overdrawn on my current account...... can I claim any of that back also? How do I go about approaching HSBC to get the account numbers so I can try and claim any monies back that I may be owed. Also I have a Capital one credit card which is current and I am going to see if there is anything I can claim back on that, also a barclaycard which I have had quite a few charges added on to that as I missed a few payments and due to that they have added charges which has taken me over my limit, can I claim on that one aswell? Sorry for so many questions, any info would be a great help. Thanks

congrats on your success may i ask how long your claim was with fos i have been waiting 3 months now put a claim in nov 2011

Sorry, just typed a long response o ly for my iPad to go and lose it

Anyhoo, thanks and sorry to hear you're not having any joy so far.....I just amended my previous post 'cos I realised I'd put 2010 instead of 2009!

    1) Claim in nov 2009

    2) LTSB rejected - said loan didn't exist even though they had sent me the loan account number in DSAR

    3) Went to FOS Sept 2010

    4) Upheld by FOS May 2011 - LTSB offered £1200 based on no info to support existence of PPI

    5) I didn't want to accept till I'd thoroughly searched for documentation having just moved house so didn't send acceptance form back till Sept 2011.....but no luck with finding any documentation :(

    6) LTSB formal offer letter received December 2011

    7) Cheque finally arrived yesterday.

Hope you get yours sorted very soon :D

    Hi pippin18,
It's not a case of claiming back what you are owed, it's complaining that you were mis sold PPI and for that you need a valid reason. Check out the following page
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-credit-card-insurance
Scroll down to "How it may have been mis sold" and if any or all apply then you are within your rights to complain about it.
To complain you really need to know the account numbers, if you haven't got them you may have to SAR the bank/banks in question. This costs a one off fee of £10 and they have 40 days to comply and send you everything they hold on you, from there you can start a complaint.
There is NO NEED to use a claims company, they will demand a huge slice of any redress if successful, you can do it all yourself as soon as you are in possession of account numbers and with the great advice given freely on this forum ;)

  • OMG !!!! Martin Lewis your a legend XXXX Been looking round this site for ages knew i had been mis sold ppi on 2/3 Barclay loans and an old Barclay card going back going back to 1999 but had no imformation, rung Barclays the man i spoke to said it wasn't a problem as they held all the imformation on me that they need ( i never fully paid off my loans as always took out another to top it up the last 2 loans didn't have ppi) he even gave me my account number for Barclay card and sent out 3 claim forms, the imformation i put on the forms was very basic has i had no account number for my loans so really diidn't think i would get anywhere. TODAY with out any notifcation £6,500 went in to my bank account when i looked at my bank account there were 5 different payments from Barclays ranging from £800. up to £2.600 have no idea weather its for all my loans plus my Barclaycard or what but i'm very happy with what i got. I made the first call to Barclays on 13th Jan 2012 and the money went in today 14 th Feb So to anyone thinking about doing this just do it!!!!!! even if you have no imformation like me GOOD LUCK and thanks to every one on this site because i really wouldn't of done it if it wasn't for you

Many congratulations WEECAROLE :T fabulous result :)
Hate to say it but just be aware that any 8% standard interest payments may be taxable if they have been paid GROSS and if you are a tax payer. You could do with getting a full breakdown on your redress to see how much 8% standard interest they have paid and if it has been paid gross, it's then a case of informing HMRC of the amount so they can assess you tax obligation. Sorry to put a damper on your great news but would hate for you to fall foul of the tax man later on ;) Well done :)

Hi pippin18, have a look at the reasons that can contribute to a mis sale, if you feel that you were mis sold, even from vague memory then by all means complain.
On loans, upfront PPI is a big NO NO and gets upheld a lot, if you had good cover in place ie good sickness benefits at work (6 months full pay, 6 months half pay and good redundancy) then that helps, if you were not asked about this at the time of sale or if your previous health was not discussed (any previous medical conditions could have meant that you wouldn't have been able to claim should things go wrong) Were you given the option to shop elsewhere for cheaper cover, were you told that you would stand a better chance of getting the credit if you took the PPI on offer. Were you self employed at the time (some policies never covered the self employed)
If the PPI you were paying caused the charges and late payments this could help your cause. Did you tick boxes specifically asking for it, was the full cost of it explained to you ?
I can't tell you how to complain as I don't know how PPI was sold to you, only you know that. It's whether you feel you were sold it in your interest or not, if not complain.
Just because you were paying PPI doesn't necessarily mean it was mis sold but if you feel it was in your case, go for it ;)
