PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • Hi all

I posted my questionnaire off to Sainsbury's Bank (Bank of Scotland) , on 17th January this year.
I sent this in order to reclaim the PPI that I was forced to take when I took out my loan.
I had a letter from them a week later saying that they had received my complaint and were investigating it.

To my utter shock I received a cheque in the post on Saturday! :j
    I got back:
    • refund of premiums - £2726.16
    • refund of interest at 7.55% - £689.81
    • interest at 8% - £565.35
    At total of £3891.32!!!!!:rotfl::beer::T:rotfl::p
I can't believe how quick, easy and simple the whole process was.

Those companies offering the claim service are making money for doing nothing, they are not needed!

Thanks to peeps on this forum for the advice and to Martin :money:for making me do this! I would never have done it otherwise, as I thought it'd be too complicated (actually I wouldn't have known about PPI claims at all). Wish I could buy you a pint to say thanks :D

I hope anyone reading this gets their letters sent off to check if they had PPI...it's only a small task and could be worth it:)

Does anyone know if you need to send anything in along with the questionnaire? I completed the questionnaire ready to go to Virgin/MBNA but Im not sure if it just goes to them o its own?

    Thanks.

Hi, I sent a covering letter with mine, but you don't have to so long as you send it to the correct department, if you're unsure, then call and ask. I also sent it recorded. Posted 20th Jan, received a letter from them dated 31st Jan telling me they would let me know within 28 days. Fingers crossed! :)

Thanku MelonMoon was yours a Virgin claim too?
  • I was lucky enough to see Martin on This Morning last year and followed the info he gave and approached Natwest Bank on missold PPI, they of course said No... so after a letter to the ombudsman n a few months later i am now £4005 better off .. Today I happened to catch Martin on This Morning again n heard how to check on previous loans by going to Equifax for a credit report. Its showing me the car finance I took out which the last payment was in June 2008, I'm pretty sure i had PPI added on this as was compulsary (according to the car salesman) Even though i got the finance thru a car dealer it says my loan was with Santander Consumer(uk)plc I have emailed them asking for any info on this to be sent to me n i am willing to pay ... Does anyone think i have a case to claim? I know its worth a try just wondered if anyone else has had dealings with them :)
  • Hi Newbie here but bouyed on by a recent success claiming from Halifax £6,441 thank you very much:j i've sent off some other claims for various cards and a loan from Sainsburys now all cleared and closed but Sainsburys have written to say as i've not given any account numbers they will not accept any complaint . Is it worth sending off a SAR for more delaying tactics or should i go FOS ? The loan was cleared in May 2006 and card Jan 2009.
  • Hi

I complained in 2010 to tesco and was offered a refund of premiums to be paid of my arrears as the loan was in default. I asked them about interest and they declined. I then went to the FOS and asked for them to make tesco pay the 8% interest and pay that to me as I stated this would have been money in my account and the reduced premiums may have ment i never defaulted in the first instance. after 10 days i had a call to confirm tesco had agreed this.

Last week i realised when they investigated my compliant they did i on my last loan and not the 2 previous ones, I have written again and had a letter within 4 days saying they will refund all premiums and 8% interest but again knock this of arrears.

I have written back and again asked for the interest to be paid to me which is £700 and £1300 in premiums. As they paid this me before following FOS involvement should they pay this me again without the need to go to FOS as it is 100% indentical complaint?
If i had to go to FOS would I be correct in assuming it would be the exact outcome, it just seems bizzare they may say no when on there files they will see they have had to pay me the interest before

Also on a separate note, i have a case with FOS for last 18 months in there final checking que against PPI on CC against HSBC, since i complaint there was the court fulling regarding PPI would this go in my favour, also if I was to write to HSBC asking them to look again follow the rulling would they re-look at the complaint or just ignore my letter

Many thanks for any help that can be given
  • Vicxzy - Yes it was a claim for Virgin/MBNA they were quick at getting back to me as were my EGG, now Barclay. I'll post when I hear from them again, which I hope is soon!

I have just got a cheque from halifax for £2081, sounds ok but when I work out how much I paid ppi per month which was between £50-£61 for 43 months plus the 8% interest this dose not match my cheque! What shall I do, dont see the point of sending it to the obs as it could take a long time to sort out, I was thinking of just calling them to see how they have come to this amount. Any ideas????

Dizzy ask them for a breakdown. I had to go through the FOS and then they have to stick by their guidelines. I was paying about £70 a month for about the same length of time. The card was paid off 3 years ago so I would get more interest on it, but I ended up with £16,000. So is worth asking the question. Also ask the FOS for their guidelines.

    Good luck.
  • As i have been waiting for a response, should of had one in January for both i thought i would chase them both up yesterday.

First MNBA, spoke to a nice gentlemen who told me that the claim has been upheld and that i would expect a letter round about now once it had gone though financial dept ( paying dept?)
oooo!! couldn't say how much i was going to get back and i haven't got a clue.. i suspect it could be a fair amount.. anyway all very exciting.

Next Barclaycard, had for years this card.
When i rung they said that they had sent our there response at beginning of jan.. i had not recieved it.. She didn't really want to say anymore of it had been upheld or not.. i suspect not?
anyway, they are going to send second letter this week.. allegedly!

I have a feeling thats going to be a 'no' though.. it just didn't sound very promising.

Still, good news from MNBA now on tenderhooks to see what the repayment will be.. might have to do some investigating..

3 more claims in so far, waiting on Egg and M& S now ..hmmm

    Thanks Martin.
