What can I say except a massive THANK YOU to Martin and MSE for opening my eyes to reclaiming PPI!
So details;
Credit card with MBNA
Filled in the questionnaire (Mid January) and sent it off, not really expecting anything back any time soon.
2 weeks go by and we receive a holding letter saying they are looking in to it - fast forward 6 days to a letter saying they are sending us a cheque for just over £11,000! It took a few reads for it to actually sink in!
I honestly can't believe it! Thank you MSE! :j0 -

Hi,look here for reasons for mis sell
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step2
If any/all apply to your mum then put a claim in.
Just write a letter saying this ppi was mis sold and give the reasons.
You could use the FOS form if you want.

Forms are number 3.
Send the letter to.

If you have the account numbers and reasons for mis sell, then put a claim in.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step2
As you only had these loans for a year, when you settled, you will have been given a rebate of the ppi,if you win redress this will be taken off.
You will get the 12 months ppi you paid on these loans, back to you with 8% interest.0 -

If you have reasons for mis sell, then i dont see why not, this insurance covers the vehicle against write off,so you should get the full value back if this happens, sometimes it does not,or you may no longer have the vehicle but could still be paying this.0 -

I thought the extra amounts on the loans were for interest?
I do have the account numbers so I will send a claim in for each of them.
Just out of curiousity, if my claims are successful how much do you reckon I will get back?
Hi,these are small amounts to be interest?,i dont know how to work the interest out i am afraid,i thought they may be interest but if it is,it was not a lot, although you did have small amounts and loan term.
Hang back with the claim until one of our other posters who know how to calculate the interest look at this.0 -
When did you take this card out? some before 2007 online were automatically ticked for ppi,you had to opt out.cheesetony wrote: »Hello,
This is pretty much my first time of writing on this site so firstly i would like to say a big THANK YOU to all who contribute - you have so far helped me to claim just over £2000 from 2 separate Banks (Lloyds TSB and Northern Rock - NR actually approached me, which was strange).
However i am now coming up against Barclaycard who have declined (final response) my claim on the basis that:
"We have identified that you PPI was submitted online. At this point of applying for PPI, the process required you to select the specific type of cover you required. In this case, you positively selected the product"
"In addition we have conducted a review into the documentation you viewed during the sale. We are satisfied that the documentation presented accurately described the scope of the policy, and was sufficient to provide you with all of the information necessary to inform you of the terms and conditions of the policy".
My claim was based on the fact that I would have received full sick/accident pay from my employer and therefore the policy was unsuitable and irrelevant to me. I also mentioned that i felt the relevant information was not supplied to state that being eligible for full sick pay meant that the policy would not be needed.
Surely if the the above could be queried by them with evidence of information at the time then they would prove it with evidence of said material?
Can anyone please tell me the best route to go down now? Do i have a leg to stand on with the FOS?
One last thing that they mention that could possibly stand in my favour is that they say
"The PPI cover is still active on your account"
This however is not true - that account was cleared and I hold a completely new card with them now which contains no PPI at all. Does this mean I still have a shot as they clearly have this part wrong.
Thanks
cheesetony
sorry - i should add that the other two claims mentioned above were claims for the exact same reasons as the barclaycard claim - it is just stat the other two were in-store and not online thus making it easier to claim.
Tell them that you believe this to be the case re your application, reiterate the fact you would not have opted to take this as you had sick pay in place that would have paid the card for 12 months, the same time frame the sickness cover of the ppi would have covered you for.
If you have life insurance in place, tell them that you did not need this life cover with the ppi,for the same reason as the sick pay,the card would have been paid off.
The reason they gave for rejecting with regards to the policy details that were online, why would you have read this,if you had no need of ppi.
Also, tell them that as this card is paid off and does not have the ppi on anymore, what account details are they looking at to reject your claim?, if they cannot find the correct details for this card, then how can they know this was not mis sold.
Ask them to reconsider their decision,as the points you made above are valid,if they choose to reject this again, you will forward this complaint to FOS as you know you were mis sold this product, due to the safeguards you had in place were the worst to happen.0 -
Hi, have successfully claimed by doing this? Shop direct say Aviva was underwriter for PPI but Aviva say Shop Direct are not getting back to them etc etc... sending it to FOS.
My mum did yes, they sold her PPI in her 70s years ago, so when I discovered it I went ballistic and claimed for her. Refund of several thousand in two months.
I think FOS would have torn them a new one, so they paid up.0 -
willow-tree wrote: »Hi ,
After lurking on this site for ages, and enjoying reading about all of your experiences, I gave it a go myself. Didn't have any paperwork, so just called banks and asked for account details, then sent questionaire off to hsbc, virgin, egg and mint.
Letters sent 12th Jan, recorded delivery, acknowledgement letters back from all barr HSBC
Yesterday I received an offer from Virgin for just under 1000, saying cheque will be posted within 28 days. I'm overjoyed and looking forward to getting it!
Has anyone had experience with Virgin/mbma are they good at sending or is it a long drawn out process.
Anyway thank you all for sharing your stories, will update you all when I receive other responses.
Hi there, just to let you know, I contacted MBNA at the end of December 2011, for a credit card I held with them about 5 years ago, I contacted them over the phone, asking about PPI on this account, I had no forms to fill in and they wrote back to me within about 2 weeks to say they were looking into my case, I further 10 days later a letter to say they were going to pay me £850, cheque arrived 5 days later. This was so easy, in comparison to LLoyds Tsb who i am still waiting for money from!!!! Been waiting 6 months for LLoyds0
