I had my offer sent to me last Saturday, I'm awaiting my cheque too at the moment from Halifax, after reading some horror stories of people waiting a long time I'm hoping that they have got their act together and are starting to process these quickly !

My letter came yesterday and my cheque arrived today...I feel I may have been one of the very lucky ones..fingers crossed for you

Hi all, hoping someone can help me???? I am currently trying to find information on loans i had with them (barclays) from 10 years onwards but having no luck!!! how do i go about getting this information a letter? or go into bank? The same goes for Barclaycard they say they have no information of my account with them which ended in 09!!! I have done an experia credit check and my barclaycard details are there in black and white, should i take this with me to the bank?? although it doesnt have my account number in full on it just the last 4 numbers!!!!!! Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi , I had the same problem obtaining details, I still bank with Lloyds and Barclays , when I went in branch I asked the cashier and Barclays gave me a print out of all open and closed accounts no fuss or hassle , Lloyds cashier was very reluctant but she did give me the details (Feel that the staff in branch had been told not to give out details etc ) , The print out's gave all account numbers and credit cards closed and current .
    I wish you good luck :-) x

Has anyone claimed ppi back from Argos, I have a store card with them

I managed to get my PPI refunded from them last year. They refused at first saying I had ticked the box, but after a letter from me agreed to refund it.
    Good luck.

    Hello :)

I don't post on here very much, but thanks to Martin's template I received payment from HSBC this evening. As a youth I repeatedly consolidated debts and got myself into £17k of debt. :( I have been paying it off properly for the past 6 years, and have just under £2k to go on my loan which is due to be paid off next year.

I wrote to HSBC in November about 1 loan I had had. They replied telling me in fact I'd had 7 - count'em! - out and were working on my PPI enquiry. I thought I might get about £20 or something. Today I received a letter which is telling me I'm entitled to £3k - just under, once I have paid tax on the interest. I am in total shock. This will enable me to pay off my loan early if the terms are right, and get another car if my beloved old one fails its MOT in a few weeks. I also want to put some aside for savings.

If I clear the loan it will mean I am debtfree apart from 2 small credit cards one of which is interest-free. I currently have 3 jobs. I feel like this is the first day of the rest of my life and I can't thank you enough Martin for your guide on PPI!
  • hi santa 8.

i sent in my letter on dec 5th, got first reply 13th december then next letter was offering me the money. I claimed as i had asked hsbc to cancel my ppi and they said they couldnt unless i cancelled my loan with a different rate and couldnt guarentee that i would get a loan.

Just wanted to sign off this section of my claims for PPI with a few words of encouragement for anyone thinking about claiming (especially if you are thinking about claiming through a claims company!).

I started to get interested in the PPI issue round about last August, but didn't really know what to do or how to claim (and it isn't as if I'm stupid - I'm a doctor so I must have some intelligence in there somewhere!). A few weeks of lurking on here, looking around the internet, etc. convinced me that I had at least reasonable grounds for claims so, with the help of the forums here and the letters on this website I sent off my claims at the beginning of October. In addition I phoned my bank (Natwest) for some account info and found that they actually did everything over the phone (lesson learnt there - have info written down before you phone anyone!).

It has now been four months and I have received five pounds short of 24k, all now paid into my account - money that I didn't think I would get at the beginning of it all. Sometimes it has been completely painless, sometimes I have had to do a bit of work (but, let's face it, 'work' is relative here - speaking to someone on the phone, whilst stressful, isn't exactly working down a coal-mine).

The best advice I can offer, for the sake of your mental health as much as anything else, is as follows.

    1. Do it yourself - yes, it can take a little time to get the info together etc., but for the amount of time I spent on dealing with my PPI info it is the most per hour I have ever earned by a long way!
    2. Put your information together logically - work out what you have, what you don't have, whether you can get what you don't have, whether it actually matters if you don't have it - these forums in particular have been brilliant for that information.
    3. Be honest - in every correspondence I have written, if I don't know something (the when and how of application, etc.) then I said I don't know.
    4. Don't expect anything - I never tried to figure out what I 'should' get - there were never any guarantees, I avoided getting my hopes up - the only time I checked things was when an offer letter came to make sure that the offer was correct. This also had a bonus effect in that every time I got an offer it was like someone giving me something, and that felt great. If you try to overcalculate in advance, or get it into your head that you should definitely be given an offer that can lead to disappointment - that isn't to say you should give up if knocked back, just don't take it personally - in many ways it is a game.
    5. Do it yourself - I know this was point one as well but it is so important it is worth making twice! I'd hate the thought of someoone taking x% of my money right now. If you don't feel like you can do it yourself, ask a friend or family member - this isn't something to feel embarrassed about, this scam was pulled on millions of people.

So, if there is anyone out there who is doing what I was doing five months ago, just reading these forums and wondering what to do - you can do it, go and get a pen!

Right, just waiting on credit cards (sent them off in December)
  • Hi ,

After lurking on this site for ages, and enjoying reading about all of your experiences, I gave it a go myself. Didn't have any paperwork, so just called banks and asked for account details, then sent questionaire off to hsbc, virgin, egg and mint.

Letters sent 12th Jan, recorded delivery, acknowledgement letters back from all barr HSBC

Yesterday I received an offer from Virgin for just under 1000, saying cheque will be posted within 28 days. I'm overjoyed and looking forward to getting it!

Has anyone had experience with Virgin/mbma are they good at sending or is it a long drawn out process.

Anyway thank you all for sharing your stories, will update you all when I receive other responses.
