I contacted Halifax before Xmas regarding our mortgage we have had since 1987. I received a cheque for approx £1700 and phoned them asking how this had been calculated. They advised a letter had been sent to me on 3rd Jan but I have not received it, so I asked for a copy. When it arrived it said they were repaying all of my PPI payments in full plus 8% interest. I phoned again and said I had paid a lot more than this in payments. The girl I spoke to checked and told me she could see my payments going back to Aug 1988. I said that was when we had moved house and increased the mortgage. She checked again and said yes she could see lower payments from May 1987. She said she would send the information back to the calculations dept. Two days later my sister (works in a bank) said the cheque was no good as it was made out in joint names and we don't have a joint bank acc. I phoned and spoke to a man who appeared confused that someone had told me they could see my payments went back to 1987, as their records only went back 6 years. I told him in no uncertain terms that he was wrong as the girl had given me the dates when it had started and changed. Then he said he couldn't do anything about the cheque but that a bank would take it. I told him a bank wouldn't as it was marked a/c payee only. He then said my wife would have to phone to authorise them to make the cheque out to me. My wife did this when she got home and was told they could not accept a verbal authorisation and we would have to write in. A rather sharp letter has been sent together with a copy of the mortgage agreement of 1987 showing the insurance.

Has everyone else checked the amounts they have received to make sure they are correct? Has anyone else received a cheque with no explanation because it had got 'lost in the post'? I'm just wondering if this is a money saving tactic being used - send a cheque and some people will just cash it and be happy, if they query it, tell them letter must have got lost and send one, saying payments have been refunded in full, then some people will happily cash the cheque. Only the ones who can calculate what the refund should be will then complain. If this is happening they could save an awful amount of money. Please check your payments and post if this has happened to you.

Can't vouch for 2003 but for August 2004 there were no tick boxes for PPI on their loan applications. If the loan application form was delivered by courier to your house (as in my case) the PPI was simply added upfront (which is frowned upon) The only tick boxes on the application was for the credit card that they included with the loan. I never asked for the credit card so never ticked any of the 4 tick boxes that you could choose from for different levels of cover, on said credit card.
There was a section on the loan application that stated you apply for "Credit care" and my name and DOB was filled in, in type, it was not left blank for me to sign or date. There was also another section that should have stated the PPI cost per month but this was left BLANK! So it made it look as though you were not paying anything for PPI. Very misleading in my opinion and you only had 15 minutes to read and sign it :(
    Successes
    Sainsbury's/BOS £6,400 Paid :)
    MBNA £3,600 Paid :)
  • Thanks Dilus
I had sent for a SAR from them and my part of the form is the same as yours it is in type. If i remember correctly courier didn't stay long and I had a 3 year old also running about. I didn't tick for credit card either as I already had one!! Thanks again

You're welcome. The upfront nature of the PPI was the main mis sell reason, that and the fact that they tried as hard as possible to make you feel you were not paying for insurance. The PPI policy booklet came in the post a week or two after applying and I thought it was connected to the credit card they issued (that I didn't want or use) and as I hadn't ticked any boxes on the form, I filled it and never gave it a second glance, until the media highlighted PPI mis selling. I then dug out the paperwork and realised it was for the loan that I had been paying to full term for 7 years :( Very underhand to say the least.
They never argued and paid out within 11 weeks, that's at a time that they had 16 weeks to investigate ;)

  • Thanks to your excellent website. So far we have made three successful claims on PPI using your template letters.

MBNA Credit card PPI reclaim ... original charge was for £142.54. Received £1756.83. Without any bother..just one of your template letters used.:j

MBNA Loan PPI reclaim... original charge was for £4222.46.
Received £7244.20. Without any bother..just one of your template letters used again, although we had to wait a bit longer for this payout.:j:j:j

Egg PPI £2986.20... awarded £2577.32 we had paid this off early so a rebate of £1849.44 was taken off payment amount.:j

LLoyds we have just started with.

Huge thanks again. Good luck to all who are claiming. Now I'm just waiting for someone on this earth to stop credit card interests jacking.

had a letter from Lloyds tsb back in January saying that they pay out on loans going back to 1993 ,the letter said they have calculated the payment with 8% interest up to 2nd of Feb say they will be paying me by cheque but still no cheque arrived as of yet , is one else still waiting for payment

    Hi,
I had a letter off Lloyds TSB early December saying they were upholding my complaint, My cheque finally arrived on Sat 28 Jan so they are taking about 6 / 8 weeks to get the money to you,. mind you some people on here have been waiting much longer than that.

I got a letter from LTSB in Nov 2011, and I am still waiting to be paid, despite numerous phonecalls. Dont hold your breath with LTSB.
