After being successful in Dec last year on a loan, the only other challenge I had was with a credit card that I have had for 20 years plus. Started out as Alliance & Leicester and was taken on by MBNA.
Had varying amounts outstanding on it over the years, nothing major until nearly 4 years ago when moving house. Noticed I was paying £30 per month PPI that I never asked for or required (adequately covered)
Put in complaint 22/12/11 asking for the PPI to be removed immediately and a refund of what I had paid previous. Was expecting a hard time but to my total surprised received a cheque in the post today for £3687.45 :j:j:beer::beer::j:j
Letter accompanying it states "please find a cheque enclosed as promised" this is why I am surprised as I never received an uphold letter or any calculations, the first thing I knew something was happening was the fact that the PPI was removed from Decembers statement :)
Thanks to Martin :money: and all my friends on the MSE Forum, your help and advice has been invaluable.
TOTAL refunded to date £10,000 :D

    Nice one wtg
  • Amersall, after writing to barclays, and reminding them they were a
member of the banking of the ombudsman in 1992,so there excuse
that they could not look back before 2001 as they were a member of the GISC,and i believe this was just a FOB OFF,i have still not had
a final response from them, i wonder why this is??
    regards mark.
  • Bluevan12,
I too had a letter from Barclays telling me they couldn't find any details of ppi due to not being members of the GISC, I was going to just leave it until I saw your posts...and the reply from Amersall, I have written to them again, with a copy of the original agreement, clearly showing how much ppi they had added onto the loan, and quoted what you had said about being a member of the banking of the ombudsman in 1992...
I havent heard from them yet either, but just wanted to thank you for your post as I would have just given up without a fight if I hadnt read your posts....will post on here if i get a response...thanks again

I am so encouraged by people's input and updates on this forum.
I have submitted claims for ppi refund to Halifax, Egg...now Barclaycard and HSBC and will patiently wait response and hopefully refund.

Elly19,i have been complaining at barclays since august 2010,and i have the Ombudsman forms ready and waiting.
My advice is dont wait more than 8 weeks to contact the Ombudsman
keep all letters as evidence,Its a final response you need from the banks and
6 months to reply ,,this is their final word and then you can hand it over
to the ombudsman, but always ring them around the 8 week mark, even if
its just to note your having trouble,I will let you know when i get a reply
but they still havnt given me a response since i reminded them, that they
were a Member of the Banking of the Ombudsman,BOL Mark ...
  • Complaint upheld with NRAM, have sent offer acceptance back to them yesterday, now just have to wait for the money to appear :p

I first wrote to them on 4th October, requesting a copy of the credit agreement which I duly got. It showed the PPI as a front-loaded addition to the loan. I then sent off my complaint and they upheld it first time.

    Refund due £220. :T
  • MBNA Success....

I recieved my cheque today for just short of 6k. Going to treat my family to a nice little holiday to Orlando... not told them yet though!!!
  • Result!

Unexpectedly arrived back to an offer from Halifax for my mortgage and secured loan PPI - £7429.54

Was not expecting an answer from them for another few weeks.

Still a few more claims in process, and have Sent SAR to a few other companies. So keep fingers crossed for more positive results

    The amounts were

    Mortgage
    Refund of premiums - £4351.47
    Interest at 8% - £1408.83

    Secured loan
    Refund of premium - £1357.80
    Interest at 8% - £311.44

could not have came at a better time!
