PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi.
Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Martin Lewis.
I had 2 credit cards and a loan, all with PPI on them.
My credit card with the Halifax has just paid out £775.
Has taken about 5 months, but got there in the end.
My loan I had with Lloyds TSB has gone to the financial Ombudsman, so am waiting on them. (Lloyds very unhelpful)
My credit card with Lloyds I am still waiting on too, but will let you know how I get on.
I had the runaround from both companies to start off with, but I never gave up. Reading the letters on this site and Martins PPI form helped me very much. So anyone thinking of giving up please keep going. It's better you have the money in your pocket than the pesky banks.
Thank you again Martin.:T0 -

After a pretty epic amount of £12k from Halifax for two loans, I've cracked open our old archive boxes to look for all the other loans my wife and I had over the years, with some success - I've now got six completed PPI Questionnaire forms to send off (two to Masterloan from 2000 and 2001 - is that the Barclays address? - two for GE Capital for store cards, one for Natwest and one for M&S).
I have got some evidence of PPI on each of them - whether the original credit agreement (Masterloan), PPI payments (Mothercare card and Top Man card) or the policy (Natwest). Should I send all of these bits of evidence with the forms? Is it merely to demonstrate that PPI does exist on these old loans?
(Should just add that my wife and I were debt junkies until six years ago, when we started a DMP and have now finally cleared all our debts - given that Natwest refused to help us and tried to get their loan secured on our house, forcing us to sell, I will be quite happy if they have to cough up something for their dodgy practices!)0 -
Thanks to this site I have sucseffully claimed from Lloyds Tsb loans!
But am still waiting on a Lloyds platinum cc decision , has anyone had any luck with this? It was a high pressure sale face to face in the bank.
Thanks all0 -

Thanks ! What a nightmare!
Hopefully they will sort out their payments soon!
Did they compound the interest on your claim?0 -
Hi no however I have seen success on here from the time of my online application so I'll leave it up to them to prove me wrong. I did not require ppi as I work for a company who pay full wages during periods of sickness absence and would have qualified for redundancy pay if that had occurred...it didn't (thank goodness) and I'm still working at the same placeHi Did you still have copies of your agreement or did you request it and if so does it show box ticked re PPi etc.
Thanks0 -

Question: A friend of mine has had an offer from HSBC from a claim made (which later involved FOS) for a credit card that was held from 1998 to present.
They offered just shy of £2k but only from 2005 to end of card date 2011.
I told him this sounds like they have gone back only the six years "legally" required to hold records, but it was worth contacting HSBC to query the period not "refunded".
Has anyone done this and had success with HSBC? I also advised to dig up any statements prior to that or pay for a SAR to obtain prior details if existing with HSBC, any thoughts>:A0 -
What were you reclaiming:PPI FROM LOANS
Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: 16,600
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: ONE QUESTIONAIRE
And then write your brief reclaim tale
My wife had about 5 loans with HSBC over the last 12 years - each time she consolidated to pay off the previous loan and the girl in the branch of our local HSBC said that unless she had the ppi the loan would not be accepted, the last loan was taken out in 2005 for 30k and is due to be paid off in May this year - i only sent off the questionaires because my mother in law was talking about doing it through a company that takes commission.
we called HSBC to get the PPI ref for the latest loan and they wrote back to say - you have 4 other old PPI policies and will need to do a letter for each one - nice one HSBC!
so i did it for her and sent them off on 10th december - had a letter last week to say that they are sorry for delay etc and then yesterday had an offer for £16,600 which covers the 5 policies!!!!
It doesnt feel real!!0 -
Dear All,
I just thought I'd write on the forum by way of thanks to the site, Di, Martin and the team.
I started a reclaim of PPI against HSBC in August 2009 and have only recently had it resolved. My initial complaint was rebuffed by HSBC, so it went off to the FOS for adjudication which was ruled in my favour. Following that the BBA judicial review slowed down things further much to my annoyance.
So after two and half years (I know....dispicable!) HSBC finally made me an offer for around 3.5k. I nice sum of money, but sadly for them I was holding statements dating back further. This offer was then rectified to just under 4.5k with the new evidence. This was a very tempting offer to accept, however HSBC were only going back 6 years, not to the date of when it was actually sold to me, October 2000. I told them this and they refused to budge as they claimed they no longer held the statements. My argument was that it was there fault and not mine, that they'd agreed to go by FOS guidelines which was the reimburse me as if the policy had never been sold.
I raised this with the FOS PPI team and they said that they would be speaking to HSBC about this as i wasn't the only one to bring up such concerns. The FOS then told HSBC that they had to go by those guidelines and to make me a revised offer. The new offer came in and was ever so slightly under 6k, which was more in line with what I'd calculated it to be.
I'd like to make two points on this post for all those of you waiting for redress. The first one being, where possible get as much information about the selling of the product as possible. I asked for this info from HSBC and they sent me 6 years worth of statements fairly promptly. This can only help to enforce your argument should the financial institution start to get a bit difficult....and for sure, they will if they spot an opportunity!
The second point is, please, please, please, when that offer is made, CHECK IT! In the current climate someone sending you a letter offering you 1k, 2k, or whatever it is, may seem like a lovely thing to drop through the letter box, and very tempting just to sign the letter and get the money. Before you do that ask yourself the question 'Is this right?/Are they doing right by me?'. I could have accepted the 3.5k, but instead opted to check against it, and make sure that my case was water tight. My view is that these institutions have been taking from people for far too long, be it PPI, overdraft charges or the bail out of 2008, and there was no way I was going to settle for anything less than I should be owed. You can see that 3.5k to 6k is quite a difference, but had I not fought it I'd be 2.5k out of pocket right now.
I'm just glad that these complaints are now being dealt with more promptly for people. Two and half years of this going on for me was annoying, but the right result was what counted.
Needless to say I'm happy to have my cash back and am now putting it behind me. The information that this site has provided as well as Martin and the team banging the drum for the consumer on this has been outstanding. Special thanks go out to Di who has always written back to me when I've messaged her with advice - Thank you very much Di.
But if there's one piece of advice I can offer you all it is to check that offer!0
