PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

After reading all the information on this site back in June 2011, i decided to reclaim the PPI on both my credit card and 2 settled loans from Bank of Scotland. I received the confirmation letter to say they had received all the paperwork for the 3 complaints on 9 June 2011 and i proceeded to let the bank deal with it all. I received a letter saying i did not have PPI on the credit card and as such no complaint can be made, however i did not hear regarding the 2 loans. On the day of the 16 week time period elapsing, i called the PPI complaint number for BOS that was on the letter to chase up what was happening. I was told at this point that no case had been opened for either of the 2 loans and no one could explain why they had not been dealt with (i think they lost the info or just didnt deal with them). It has now been a further 11 and half weeks since then and i have called 6 times within this period to check how they were getting on and every time ive called, ive been told that it is "still being investigated". They keep telling me they have emailed the team that deals with the claims and that they will look into it, yet each time i call a couple of weeks later there is still no progress!!! All i want to know is whether or not im even going to get the money back, but going by how long the decision has taken i dread to think how long it will take for a cheque to arrive if i get it!! Ive asked several times to speak to a manager or someone who can tell me what is going on and i am told that there is no one, they are only a call centre and none of the managers speak to the callers etc - so what use is the number if you have a problem??!! I have now approached the Ombudsman to complain about them as i am getting absoloutely nowhere at the moment, however i have been advised this could take between 6 months and a year for them to deal with it, so i am forced to continue to sit about waiting for someone to finally get round to dealing with my complaint. Its been an absoloute nightmare!!!! They are quick to take money off you for charges etc, but the 1 time you ask for money from them, they faff about and take as long as they want.0

Tell them you are not satisfied with how this is being handled and you will take it to the FOS.
Just keep at it and don't give in.0 -
Hi all. I am still struggling to locate which company my PPI was with. All I have is a bank statement that shows the monthly amount (£20.48) and the reference on the bank statement is NW Mortgage MRP.
I have tried Natwest and Nationwide, I have even contact the bank which the direct debit came out of, but because this account is now closed they cannot say who this company is! Sooooo frustrating!
Does ANYONE recognise or have any thoughts who that company may be - NW Mortgage MRP.
Some mortgage ppi is hard to get a mis sell with.

You will get all the help you need from the guys on there, they may even know who the company is that you are looking for.0 -
The MBNA claims were upheld because I had several discussions with them when the insurance was first taken out where I repeatedly asked them if they were sure I was covered. I was asking them this because of my employment status, which meant that I was getting my income from company dividends rather than as a salary. They always answered that I was covered - obvious now that was not the case, hence the claims being upheld.
The HSBC one is a bit different because it is truly ancient - originally set up with the card in 1988. I'm not sure why they approved it but they were also aware of my employment status (which dated from 1998) as they were my personal and company bankers.
Those are the best answers I can give I'm afraid - I didn't give much more info than that on the claim forms.
Hi there,if you did a SAR,i doubt they would find info going back that far,if they have paid you the 6 years plus 8%,then without proof of ppi paid before this you are at a dead end.
Fos would most likely uphold HSBC offer,as you nor they have any proof,so you would wait for FOS only to be told the offer is fair.
It is your call though.0 -
I spoke to Lloyds at the weekend about a claim I sent to FOS as they rejected back in Sept 2011. I wanted to find out two things, one if they sent the paperwork to FOS and two the reason behind rejecting it as they didnt give any real reason for doing this in the letter. When I spoke to a girl there I she said she doesnt know for what reason they have rejected my claim only that some of the loans are ones where when setting up the loan you couldnt cancel the insurance, which i dont even recall anyone explaining the insurance to me anyway. but you get a letter in the post stating you have 14 days to cancel????
Has any one had this reason?
This is a new one on me!!! total crap, ring FOS.
Did you not get a letter from Lloyds when they rejected your claim,or did you just go to FOS?0 -
update: the £76 from Capital One never arrived so I phoned them up and they said that the account was partially settled ( £495) so the £76 will be taken off the balance which is fair enough, I understand that but I have now got a copy of my credit report which says "satisfied" and Current £0 so does that mean I can now contact Capital One and make a complaint and request the £76 PPI at the credit report does not say " partially settled" which is what Capital One are saying.0

Hi everyone,
sorry if this is a really stupid question but I'm looking at reclaiming from Northern Rock.
I've filled in the payment protection insurance questionnaire as I have account number for the loan and know there was PPI added.
Do I need to send a covering letter with the questionnaire, or do I just send it as it is? I've looked through the forum and can't find anything, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place!
Thank you for your help and I'll report back on what happens (fingers crossed!)
Hi,you dont need to put a covering letter in.
Good luck.0 -

Yeah, that's what I thought. I have one more idea which I will check out tomorrow - it's just possible that I can get bank statements going back further which will show my payments to the CC. I know this wouldn't be ideal as it won't show the split between CC payment and PPI, and there'll be no evidence of the balance, but maybe it'll go somewhere
If that doesn't pan out then I'll just accept the offer. Frustrating 'cos MBNA went back the full 10 years that I'd had the cards, no problem.
Thanks Amersall.0 -
Thanks to Martins templates got an offer of £2,500 from Barclays, unfortunately they pretended thay didnt recieve my letter so have been playing a delaying tactic methinks!0

Yes I got a letter but no reason for rejecting, just said they looked at all info given and they dont feel it was mis-sold, didnt explain why they felt is wasn't mis-sold, So I sent a letter to say I was not accepting there rejection but I never got a reply so I sent it to FOS bank in October 2011.
Thank you0
