PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Woo Hoo !
Following my previous success with my current loan, I fired off two more completed forms to Lloyds (following a quick call to the very helpful lady at Lloyds loans who gave me details of every loan I had ever had with them (going back 8 years!))
Arrived home today to find two letters waiting from Lloyds - one for two loans and the other for a credit card - payments being refunded in full (£850)!
Am so glad I read this site - I had considered using a CMC initially and, if I hadnt stumbled across the advice on here most likely would have!
Interest is calculated up until start of January - having been through the process once (claim submitted May, upgeld Aug, calculations Sept and payment Nov) and hearing the horror stories Im not anticipating it arriving soon but woo hoo nonetheless !!

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for this site - having sent off the template letter from this site to Lloyds I received a letter last week to advise me they will be refunding £2001.62 PPI premiums paid on my credit card - my wife did the same with her Natwest credit card and received a letter on Friday to advise they will be refunding a massive £9761.00. Whilst we are under no illusions that we'll receive the money before Xmas it has certainly made our year. Thanks guys for all of your advice and for anyone looking on here for the first time it really was as easy as downloading the letter and paying for the stamps! :j0

What's better than getting an offer letter from the bank £6,700? Finding another one tucked in with it for another £1,900 :-)
That is my wife's PPI finally sorted with Barclays, a bit of an arduous process compared to some others but finally got there in the end (yes, I know we have to go through the waiting process for the money itself but I can cope with that).
The reason I wanted to write here was due to a strange conversation I had with a friend after we received the offer from Natwest last week - we were discussing it in the pub and he asked why, as we are doing ok financially, we had bothered trying to claim our money back! Have to admit, this completely flummoxed me! I told him that, aside from the fact that it is a lot of money (approx 24k offered back now), that it is also the principle that it is my money that was taken and I don't like people taking my money for no good reason!
Out of ten of us who were there, only one other person had tried to claim back PPI, but about another five thought they had probably had PPI on loans/CCs they have had but just never bothered to look into it. Now I don't believe in vexatious claims but I think everyone, regardless of current circumstances, should find out on principle whether their trust was abused (because I believe it was a matter of trust) and, if it was, should be given back what is theirs.
Needless to say I shall hopefully be helping a couple of them to find out!0 -
Thanks for this site, 2 letters and a total of £4,100 paid back! Just a couple of more letters to send off now.
The only problem i had is that I did not have my account numbers for RBS so I rang up and was advised to write in which i did. I then received a letter saying that I could not be given my account numbers due to data protection!! However I still sent off the letters asking for repayment and advised that I could not find the account numbers and I did receive a payout so don't be put off if the same happens to you.0 -
About 6 months ago my wife and myself saw the news about reclaiming PPI.
We had a couple of live loans with Lloyds and worked out the PPI we had paid so far was about £5K.
We decided to put a claim in.
The process was very easy, the Claim Forms available on this site were easy to fill in.
In fact it took about 10 minutes and the price of a stamp.
We then realised we could make claims on older loans.
After a trawl through our financial history, we found we had had loans from as far back as the 1980's with Lloyds, AA Finance, and Tesco Finance.
Getting the loan numbers from Lloyds was easy... we just walked into our local branch and they printed a list for us free of charge.
Getting the loan numbers from AA and Tesco was also easy, as we knew the start/end dates of the loans... we just sent them a simple letter. They sent us back all the information needed.
We then filled out the Claim Forms again and sent them all off.
The whole process took us a few hours and the price of a few stamps.
So 6 months later.
All claims were upheld, even on the old loans from the 1980's
All three companies have now paid up.
Because we did it all ourselves, not a penny goes to any claims company.
Total received £39366.62
...and yes, that total is just under 40 grand!
So whatever you do DON'T GO VIA A CLAIMS COMPANY... DO IT YOURSELF!0 -
Plymouthjannerlad wrote: »Thanks for your reply, yes the loan was from the internet, and I do agree that I opted in for PPI, however no information was given to me informing me that I would not be able to claim should I go ill with my condition. I was sent information through the post about PPI but at no point have they asked me about any medical conditions. Surely if a company are going to sell you a product you would not be able to use then I have a case? What would have happened if I had become ill and could not work and then make a claim what leg would they have to stand on?? I still wasnt made aware about the restrictions on the product
This does not mean you dont have a case for mis sell, look at the reasons in the link i gave, and send your complaint in,good luck.0 -

Natwest credit card PPI
Made phonecall to PPI claimline on 19th Aug, received offer letter 2nd Nov (2K+), Cheque received today. Think I have been lucky to have such a quick turnaround, but pretty straightforward case - wasn't even working when sold the PPI! Have to say they have been pretty good with me, but I know that's not the case with everyone. Hope you all get paid soon.xx0
