PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I've just spoken to the Bank Of Scotland, who upheld two complaints back in August but couldn't give me a figure and have kept me waiting all this time.
They've confirmed that for the first complaint (on a Preference account) they're paying out just under £8000 - and I should have the cheque before Xmas! The second (an old Sainsburys bank card) still hasn't been calculated, but they're going to chase it up.
So hooray! :beer:0 -
I sent a template letter to LloydsTSB complaining about two loans, turns out that over the years I'd had four.
Yesterday I got a letter back telling me I am going to get a cheque for over £16,000
A good day indeed.0 -
I took a loan out with Lloyds TSB back in Feb 2005, unknowingly I've been paying PPI which due to monthly loan repayment being paid by direct debit went unnoticed.
I made a claim for mis sold PPI recently but they have said I received a couple of payments from PPI to cover monthly repayments?!
I have made no claim for this to help with any months repayment, the direct debit has been constantly active from the start of the loan and above all I receive 'full basic pay' from my employer for 12 months if I am sick or have an accident so I would not need to make a payment cover claim.
Any ideas on how I should tackle this problem or anyone had similar experience?0 -
Just had an email from FOS satating they have issued a letter from Tesco Personal Finance to me in regards to an offer of redress.
Anyone like to guess what it should come out at as...
Loan taken out in 2004
Loan amount £25,000
PPI £5695
Repayment period 36 months
Loan Settled 24 months into the agreement.
I hvae people say it should be within the £10k to £12k brackets when simple interest is added at 8%.....

I'm still waiting on a preference account upheld in early Sept.
I seem to remember there were issues with these accounts around interest - have you had a breakdown from them??????0 -

I know it was mis-sold however they have written back to me to say that the claim has been declined. All the usual garbage in the letter...like we cannot find any issue with how you were sold the PPI etc. I need some guidance on what to do next. I have drafted the below letter to send back to them, can someone please advise! Thanks.
Thank you for your letter dated 29th November 2011 regarding my claim against miss-selling of the PPI policy. As a long standing customer I find your response unacceptable and I would therefore like you to reconsider my claim against you, given that your reasons are not valid for the rejection of my complaint.
I would like to highlight the following in relation to the miss-selling of the PPI which I believe were highlighted as common faults and errors by Banks and Building Societies during the High Court ruling, in my case the following occurred:
1) I did not ask for PPI.
2) You mention copies/ transcripts of phone calls – this is impossible as the sale took place at the local branch.
3) Your member of staff did not explain that PPI was optional.
4) Your member of staff did not offer the option of purchasing PPI with another provider if I had wanted PPI in anycase.
5) The cost/benefits of the PPI were not fully explained by your member of staff.
6) I was not asked about any pre-existing medical conditions.
7) I was not asked about any existing payment cover that I held.
8) I already had sickness/redundancy/accident cover with my employer, at my employer’s discretion.
I look forward to hearing from you within the next 14 days with a satisfactory decision.
Yours sincerely,
Ask them to provide you with the transcripts of the call,as they wont be able to if you did this in branch.
Good luck.0 -
Hi guys so many people are talking about ppi at my work and i not really looked into it myself, until they was talking about money they was getting back.
Well i remember back say 19 years ago when i got my first home i had this insurance that if i became out of work and im sure this was a policy if i lost my job the insurance would cover my mortgage, well that did happen and when i tried to make a claim they would not pay me.What reasons did they give for not paying your claim out?,if you could not calim, then that is a mis sell,as it was of no use to you.
They said back then it was the line of work i was in,i had paid this for approx 2 and half year and once they had said that i canceled right away.
Today i got a check for £670 or there abouts, and they said in the letter this is what i am being paid back in which they explained in a letter a few weeks ago they had sent.
For some strange reason i never got this letter,so called them today to ask for this to be sent so i can read it.
I wonder if this is cheque is for what i had paid in them 2 yrs etc i had paid or for ppi, someone told me at work that the policy i had is not really ppi, that was more an insurance policy.
This may be right, you need to first ask the mortgage company for the terms and conditions of the insurance you had,you also need to find out what they have paid you, this could just be a refund of premiums,if the insurance was not "ppi.
Would it be worth me claiming for ppi on my mortgage or would this be it?
I have since ordeedr a credit rating for my past and sent off to a load of cc cards and loans i have over the years to see what else i am owe, some cards are going back as far back as 95,2000 and are a range of different banks etc, some have been taken over by other banks etc so i am wondering if the bank thats took over them will still be able to look into my claims and as long back as some dates of say 1995 etc etc.You put claims in to whoever the loans and cc are with now,you only need the credit card number,or the loan account number, and reasons for mis sell
I was a real surprise to have got that cheque today, but i had waited at least 14 weeks for it.

OMG. Thank you MoneysavingExpert. I took a loan out in 2007 with RBS and never missed a payment, loan completed in 2010. I received a payments breakdown from RBS when loan was complete. Now with all the hype about PPI I decided to check the payments schedule using a spreadsheet only to find that I had been paying £12 per month extra. I contacted RBS and informed them that their calculations were incorrect. The person I spoke with was very indignant, saying "well you did sign the agreement so you have no room to complain". After a long series of letters one of which was a request for a copy of the agreement (£10 fee payable)and much squirming by RBS. I was getting no where, then along came MoneySavingExpert and the FSO questionaire, low and behold within weeks RBS agreed to refund the PPI along with interest. This was paid in December 2011. So once again thank you MoneySaving Expert for just being there.0
