Big thank you to Martin Lewis and also to all on this forum who dedicate their free time to lend advice, help and support.
Submitted my complaint in August last year.
Referred to FOS in December.
RBS redressed first loan in May before FOS investigation complete.
FOS upheld 2nd loan shortly after.
RBS agreed with FOS decision mid August.
Payment finally received last week, well outside the 8 week + 4 week delay and after a lot of chasing on my part.
However, I'm very pleased with the result, so thanks again and good luck to those still claiming!

All they keep saying is its being investigated and they are waiting for bank to repond surely the fos should give hsbc some sort of deadly line???????????. On the hsbc website it says i should of had a final response by now its been 14 months since first letter, i emailed bank no response and it feels like fos just fob me off . what can i do ???????0

Hi everyone...
Re. MBNA
Requested my ppi payment details in April this year ...got details back within the 40 days.
27 Sept 2011 - Sent complaints questionnaire to MBNA (recorded deliv.)
5 Oct - Received letter from MBNA Customer Advocate Office Manager saying they were investigating complaint and will issue a response within 28 days. (They must have passed letter on because...)
19 Oct - ...I received letter from MBNA Insurance Services Specialist saying they were investigating complaint and will issue a response within 40 days (of 5th Oct).
23 Oct - Received letter from MBNA, upholding my complaint to the sum of:
Total PPI premiums paid £2167.44
Total interest on PPI premiums £3621.56
Total interest @ 8% £150.58
Total amount payable to me £5939.58
(They said a cheque would be sent within 28 days)
Received cheque just over 1 week later !!! REEEEEZULT
Thanks to all the advice from MSE forum wizards...and to all you superstar number-crunchers.... and to anyone who is thinking of giving up ...DON'T YOU DARE !!!
[Just to give people insight into things...I wrote to HFC requesting PPI statement which I received within the alloted time...less than a month later I started to receive letters from Beneficial Finance AND HFC (part of the HSBC Group) stating that £993.65 was outstanding and needed paying within 7 days otherwise possible solicitors/debt collection agency may be contacted with costs incurred by me.
Made early (reduced) settlement via CapQuest on 27-3-2009 as follows:
Amount owing as at 27-3-2009 £2509.80
Paid reduced amount £1479.93
Balance "written off" £1029.87
Ins. canc. by HFC (26-6-09) deducted £36.22 off bal. so = £ 993.65
I contacted HSBC by phone and within 30 seconds the (helpful) young lady found the error and was "determined to rectify things with her manager" (which she did)...so the HFC info WAS obviously available to HSBC staff. I received written confirmation of the error (from HFC Bank) saying that no further monies would be sought but it was the Bank's intention to file a reduced settlement notification against my account, with the Credit Reference Agencies (no-one {HFC or Capquest}had mentioned this before, AND they decided to do it 27 months after the early settlement date).
When I eventually sent off my 3 x Claim Questionnaires to HSBC in Sept, I received a reply stating that "they could not find any evidence of the reference numbers provided" ... luckily, after the previous fiascos, I sent duplicates to HFC too...it shows you need to keep a record of everything and not to be fobbed-off by seemingly official letters, written by people who need to look into things a bit deeper !!!]
I have now received a settlement offer for £5,000 from HFC (I'm just double-checking their figures before I accept) so DON'T GIVE UP !!!0 -

Hi Looby_Loo
Is it HSBC or HFC ? Whichever, and whatever you've done so far, I would send all relevant docs AGAIN but directly to the bank this time...from my experience, don't worry about doubling-up on claims ...left and right hands are not necessarily connected in banks !!:D0 -
Hi there. having read a few instances of people being told they did not have PPI on cards or loans and then finding out that they did have, I rang Virgin again today. I rang them a couple of months ago re a Virgin card I had and they told me there was no PPI on it, and told me of three other cards I forgot I had, and that they didn't have PPI on them either! When I rang today the lady said there was no PPI on the Virgin card but she couldn't see the details of the other cards, and that someone was going to ring me this week to let me know!! How mysterious, anyone had similar experiences?
Also, I had a RBS card a few years ago and rang RBS about PPI on that, but because I didn't have the details or couldn't get them up without a card number they gave me an address to write to to get the details.0 -
I received an offer letter from RBS for a Lombard Direct loan today...£2250! I think I am also due another one as I did a duel claim!
Do not hesitate to do this, thanks to this site I don't have to worry about Christmas!0 -
maryspecial wrote: »We got our calculations letter this morning from halifax after getting our cheque last week. The figures look low and i really dont mean that in agreedy way. If they only went back back six years the premium refund averages about £13 a month yet we regular paid £30. there was a short period where there was no balance but it wasnt for long. The 8% interest refund of £39 would confirm this. Is there a way that we can ask for a breakdown of the premiums paid? Can we still SAR that info or by the time it would come back would it be too late to go back to them?? Not sure what to do, has anyone else be suspicious of payment calculations?? Actually had the card 8 yrs and their offer was that they would estimate the first two years etc so cant understand the figures at all. If we request info god knows how long theyll take getting back to us. We waited since 3rd sept for payment!!
Hi Maryspecial
I am in exactly the same situation as you. I too believe that my Halifax PPI refund is too low. Although I haven't had the calcs letter yet, I have seen the refund go on my credit card statement. My ppi refund was 1,490. Either they haven't gone back far enough (I have had the credit card for 8-10 years and like you have been paying back 30ppi per month), my rough calcs show that they have only gone back 6 years. Once I receive my calcs letter, I will go back to Halifax and tell them I don't agree with their calcs.
I get the feeling that because they are trying to clear backlogs, they aren't doing the full investigation work and are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. I only want what money is mine.
Let me know if you hear anything back from Halifax.0 -
Hi all...just a quicky...
Amount owing as at 27-3-2009 £2509.80
Paid reduced amount £1479.93
Balance "written off" by HFC £1029.87
Ins. canc. by HFC (26-6-09) deducted £36.22 off bal. so = £ 993.65
...when I made my early balance settlement with HFC I presumed that was that, but during my reclaiming with them I started to get letters saying I still owed this money. Eventually they said it was a mistake and that I didn't owe it...I have a written apology saying the account was short settled and no further monies will be sought by HFC.
On the PPI "Acceptance of Offer' form I have to sign there is a paragraph saying "As I still have a financial committment to HFC Bank, the amount of redress paid directly to me is subject to the status of my accounts. If there is any residual balance, this will be sent to my bank account. It may be necessary to contact you via telephone to discuss this further. Please give preferred contact number."
Does this mean that they can still take the £993.65 out of the final redress even though they accepted a lower settlement fee via CapQuest ?
Any thoughts please0 -
Some insurance covers the self employed, you would need the policy info to find this out.
Send the complaint to FOS(if this last letter says it is the final response) with copies of the letters from you to the bank, and look here for reasons for mis sell that may apply to you and put these on the FOS questionnaire
If it was not a final response, send this info above back to the bank and tell them you disagree and want them to look at this claim again.
Was this ppi put on at the start of the loan and you paid this back over the term with interest?if it was,put in your complaint that this was front loaded insurance and you pay this over term with interest.
It doesn't say it's a final response, do i need to get back back intouch with them to put it in writing that it's a final response first before i go to the FOS? All they have said is if we remain unhappy contact the FOS.0
