PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • Hi

    I am in complete shock!

Back in July, I received a cold call about PPI settlements and felt a bit uncomfortable because they seemed to know too much about my finances... I told them I wasn't interested and I contacted my bank (NatWest) because I was concerned my account information had been shared. I spoke to their fraud team and they assured me it wasn't the case but suggested I should speak to their PPI team at RBS to discuss my PPI history on my loans.

Now, I've never been too great with my finances. I've never gone into the red in my account but fallen into the trap of refinancing my personal loan with Natwest. I spoke to the PPI team at RBS, had no loan information and just wanted to discuss the possibility that I had been mis-sold although I said to them I wasn't sure it was the case.

To cut a long story short, the guy took my bank details (no other history - not even loan numbers) and said they'd look into it. I thought nothing more about it other than when I got a letter confirming my PPI complaint (I didn't even register it as a complaint but I guess it got sucked into the process).

Then last week, I got an offer letter from them for two loans totalling approx £1250. Wow, I thought, that's great. I signed the acceptance forms and sent them off.

I got home yesterday and found a whopping great envelope on my doormat. Inside was a raft of offer letters for all my loans up to a couple of years ago when they stopped selling PPI. In total my refunds add up to £18,000!! I nearly fainted. Naturally I have signed the forms and sent them off.

They said payment within 28 days.... not sure how good Natwest is with this (anybody know?).

In some respect, it just shows how long I have been stuck in the loan refinance mode... I'm going to use the majority of the payment to pay a sizeable chunk of my outstanding loan and maybe have a couple of treats.

I just to share my experience!

  • In cse anyone is waiting for a Barclaycard payout, please read as there is hope lol.....sent acceptance letters back in August for 2 separate claims against Barclaycard and LPF ( now owned by Barclaycard), one was for just under £2k, the other for alomost £30K!!!

Nw we are in a really tight money situation, been on a self administered DMP for 4 years and have not had a single treat or luxury in this time, so the thought that maybe we could get enough to pay off the last of our debts and actually decorate kids bedrooms etc, is almost too good to be true.

The smaller amount was paid by BACS in October and when I rang to query it was told the larger amount can only be signed off by a manager as its above the usual payout amount, and no timescales can be given.

Rang again today as its my sons 18th next weekend and was trying to juggle money for his present with money for bills etc. Spoke to a lovely NI man called John, who litened patiently to my explanation of my struggles with money and how I' not being greedy but that this money would absolutely transform 'everything', and he promised to speak to finance dept and see what he could do.

Didnt hold out much hope but he rang back within 30 mins to say that the BACS payment was made straightaway and will be in my account by middle of next week. Felt very sorry for the poor man, he was so lovely that I burst into tears lol x
