  • I want to just say a big thank you to Martin and his team for all the advice regarding reclaiming PPI on this website.
Like a lot of people I had seen the adverts on the tv from companies claiming they could reclaim thousands for you for mis-sold PPI but I was sceptical and thought is wasn't worth the risk but after reading all of Martins advice on this site I decided to give it a go for myself with a loan and credit card I had a number of years ago and they both repaid all of my money plus interest!
I sent the completed questionaire found on this site off to both Capital One and Lloyds TSB. Capital One wrote back to me within a month admitting they were at fault and offered me a complete refund, once I accepted the offer I had a cheque for £372 in the post within 3 weeks. Lloyds were a lot slower, I waited 10 weeks to hear back from them and when I finally did they admitted to being in the wrong but said they would write to me again to tell me of their offer. A further 5 weeks passed till I got their offer and it was a further 7 weeks after that till I got my refund of £2474. For both of those claims all I needed to do was fill out the questionaire provided on this site and post it to the respective companies, you will need to be patient but for the cost of 2 stamps and a little bit of a wait I successfully claimed back £2846 so it was definitly worth doing.
I happen to know someone who went down the route of using a PPI reclaiming firm and he still had to provide all the details that you have to fill in in the questionaire plus he had to pay a percentage up front and for all their 'hard work' this company are going to take 30% from his final settlement so do yourselves all a favour and take Martin's advice, claim back 100% of YOUR money for YOURSELVES and if you ever see him buy Martin a big drink to say thanks (I know I will).
Thanks again Martin and team for your help

  • What were you reclaiming: Credit Card
    Who was the provider: MBNA
How much did you get back: £131.19
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Sent SAR as I had no paperwork, received back after 3 weeks. Sent email with questionnaire and proof of misale
    And then write your brief reclaim tale: When I got the information back from my SAR, I looked at the original agreement clearly showing that I never signed the section for the PPI. Looking through my statements I saw that this had been charged for a few months after my account was opened until I cancelled the policy with them. Sent an email to the CEO with my questionnaire, copies of the statements and the agreement on 3rd November 2011, received a reply on the 4th saying they were looking into it. Got an upheld letter today as follows;

I can confirm that I have concluded my investigation into your complaint.

I can advise you that the complaint is being upheld. Accordingly we have calculated the refund as follows:

Total amount of PPI premiums charged since sale date: £63.63
Total amount of interest associated with the PPI premiums: £21.71
Total amount of 8% interest: £45.85
    Total amount payable: £131.19

A cheque will be sent to you within the next 28 days.

If PPI is still active on the account, I have arranged for it to be cancelled with immediate effect. Please note that you are no longer covered by the policy.

I have sent our final response letter, which details the above, but also provides you with the contact details for the Financial Ombudsman Service, should you wish to refer your complaint to them.

    Regards

I know it's not a huge win, but it's a win all the same and I must admit I am still in shock as to how quick this was resolved. Just need to wait for the cheque now!

Have two other claims in with HSBC and HFC for loans, so hopefully some more good news is on it's way :j

    Good afternoon all

I have received a “goodwill” gesture from Natwest totalling just over £8,500 from which they say they will be deducting a 20% tax payment of £458.37. This is in respect of a loan, the details of which I posted up a few days ago. I am really pleased with this offer although I’m not so sure about the term “goodwill”!!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice or guidance please. I have also had a refund offer from Barclaycard totalling just over £3,000 on my Barclaycard credit card which was formerly with Providian/Monument. Their summary shows that the offer is only from 2007 when they took over the account from Monument but I have been paying premiums since the card’s original inception in 2001.

On searching through old paperwork I have found a copy of a letter, which Barclaycard sent me when the card was changed saying that “because Monument was previously part of the Barclays Group, it isn’t necessary to change the terms of your agreement” and I also have a few old statements for both Providian and Monument which clearly show the premium being deducted. Do you think I should write back to them and ask them to re-consider their calculations as their offer is a straight forward refund and not termed “goodwill” and is less than half of what I have originally paid?

    Many thanks.
    MR

    Evening All,

Just to update you on my earlier post - as advised I wrote to Barclaycard again last week explaining to them that I was very pleased that they had upheld my claim but pointing out that they had only offered redress from 2007 to 2011 despite my having the card since 2001. I also enclosed a copy of their copy letter from 2007 stating that my terms stayed the same, together with some old copy statements to confirm that the premium was being paid.

Got a FINAL RESPONSE from them today saying that they only have to to back six years and in any case their original offer letter to me contained a typo and should have been for the period from 2005 until 2011!! They didn't even have the decency to enclose a calculations sheet confirming this.

Any of you good people got any further advice please?

Well done to all of today's winners.

    Hi Mill Reef,

  • My HSBC Loan is = £15,000 at 8.9% back in 2004 ( for 8 years )

    Payments are = £381 a month ( including ppi )

I have made 83 payments of £381 and still have 13 left.

    A £15,000 loan over 8 years with 8.9% interest is £21,021

but i have already paid £31,623.

if i never put my claim for mis-sold ppi i would of paid back a grand-total
of £36,576 JUST for a £15,000 loan over 8 years.

I have already been to HSBC bank and the lady even said i will get my mis-sold money back. and i`m guessing that i have been paying ppi included into my loan with 8.9% interest since day one.

My question is: if i have paid them £31,623 already and i should of paid them WITHOUT ppi included £18,177.......should i get the difference back?????

( i am at my 10th week waiting for a final responce!! )

when the guy at HSBC finalized my loan he said for a £15,000 loan over 8 years with ppi included comes to £26,130.

THAT JUST DOES NOT ADD UP AT ALL!!!

if anyone can help me out with any of this or if someone is in a simulair situation i would be so grateful for your help and advice!

    Thankyou!

  • Yesterday I received a letter from RBS and they have offered £1500 and £1300 for two of the complaints I made. I phoned them to ask how the calculations were made, as I thought it should have been more. The guy said" I can't tell you how the calculations are made over the phone it is against our policy to do that". He then asked how I calculated my figures and I replied" I can't tell you how the calculations are made over the phone it is against my policy to do that".:p He chuckled, I think, possibly wind and I then asked if I could have it all in "letter form", which confused him for a minute, but eventually he asked his friend if this was possible and it was agreed. He said the calculations were very complicated. I said not on MSE they are not as old Martin :money:provides us with a calculator - "Does he now", he stated - PMSL at this point.:rotfl:

Always worth checking I think - From here I have sent a letter about our phone conversation and the agreed request. I will review before accepting.

    Good News though!!!:rotfl:

    Onwards and upwards!!!:T
    GOOD LUCK ALL!!!

I sent my complaint to Santander on Tuesday by recorded delivery and received a phone call on Wednesday to say my complaint has been upheld and I will be receiving full reimbursement of all premiums plus 8%.

This was for my mortgage, not sure if it matters what your complaint is against (ie loan, credit card etc) but should all be actioned in same way?

Hopefully you will hear soon xx:)
