Please could someone explain why we have to pay 20% tax on the interest ? Very unfair i feel ;-(
The 8% is in effect compensation (it's what a court would award) and as such classed as income:mad:
You ONLY have to pay tax on it if it has been paid to you GROSS. Some banks pay it net (stop the tax for you) If it has been paid GROSS then inform HMRC but not until you have the money in your bank, they will adjust your tax code and you will pay it over the remainder of the tax year.Successes

Ring them up and ask for the breakdown of the figures.Ladies and Gents and my good friend Cappo
I need your help
I have 4 loans that I complained about with halifax they were for 2.5k, 3.5k, 9k and 12 k I dont have all the figures however the crucial loan of 12k which I took out in 2004 ( When Halifax front loaded the PPI)I paid 12 months @£293 = £3516 then refianced. I TODAY 2 cheques in the post for £629 and £329 total £968with no calculations/ No reference number and the cheek of it my letter inside was addressed
Dear Sir/Madam
What I need help with I think there well out with figures of that £ 3516 I must have apid half at least of the PPI.
I know I have the ombudsman but im so angry im a civil servant and I get 6 months full pay then 6 months half pay as well as a pension payment of at the time £45,000 as of 2004 so defo didnt need the ppi. Can I excalate past the Ombudsman and take it higher maybe court if so what do I need to do
Please experts do me proud
With you having so many loans and refinancing one with another, you wont have paid many months of the actual ppi.
The £12000 loan only made 12 payments of ppi,you dont get back the loan payment, only the ppi monthly payment.
When you settled each loan you will have had a rebate of the ppi,so when they give you the ppi back, if the loan is settled, they take this rebate off your win,so you will get the total ppi back, less the rebate, you then get the 8% on each ppi payment paid to date, the monthly ppi payment includes interest.
You need to get the calculations from them.
Do you know what the ppi monthly amounts were for each loan and how long you paid these for before they were settled?.
If you know this, you can work out roughly what you should be due for each loan.
Is it possible this is just for one or two of the loans?.0 -
Hi Di,all painted out yet? x.0 -
Also,if you are a non taxpayer,or you have not earned or wont earn your tax code in the year from last april to next, you dont pay tax on the 8%.The 8% is in effect compensation (it's what a court would award) and as such classed as income:mad:

What reasons did you use for mis sell?,looks to me like this ppi was put on the loan and you paid this back over the term with interest, this is a no no!,write back and tell them you were not aware that this ppi was frontloaded, and in effect another loan on the loan and if they do not reconsider you will take this to FOS.sarahj1986 wrote: »hi all,
Ive had a response from HSBC and they say the PPI was correct. I still dont think it was-
1, when I went into the bank to get the loan the monthly repayment was given to me as £120 approx, this included PPI and I was not given the option of without, nor was it mentioned it included PPI
2, When the documents were printed the PPI was very briefly explained to me. The lady said that if I signed for this insurance then I would get the money in my account the same day, if I didnt then it would be delayed. Needing the money to get a car the next day I signed it.
The response I have is basically going on the fact I signed the agreement, which yes I clearly did but the letter did not make any excuses for the £120 price nor why I was not given the option. Im not happy with the response-what do you guys think I should do?
