  • i have just got a letter from HFC/Beneficial finance.. the are prepared to repay my PPI but i have now got till 9th march to either pay off existing loan (4500:00) or take out a new loan less my mis-sold PPI (£1220) at 23,9% apr... as i am not too credit worthy i am stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.. can they force me to take out the new loan at that rate or can i argue for a better apr.. i have tried my bank for a loan but got the wrong answer from them..anybody got any answer????

They cannot give you a loan with a higher interest rate than that you were already on when you had PPI.

If they try and insist on this please contact the FOS and the FSA. They should help.

  • Reclaimed: PPI on a Personal Loan
From: Northern Rock, after help from the Ombudsman
    Reclaimed: £4500! :rotfl:

I took out a loan with Northern Rock 5 years ago and agreed to take a PPI policy. I needed to top up the loan 3 years ago, but asked for a quote without PPI. Their rep said that they couldn't do this because I had PPi with my original loan and to get the lower interest rate offered to me, I would have to take PPI with them.

After reading Martin's article, I sent in a copy of the template last August and received a fairly snotty 'no' back from Northern Rock nearly 2 months later. I decided I had nothing to lose and so contacted the Financial Ombudsmen and at the start of December received a new letter from Northern Rock still refuting my claim but agreeing to refund my PPI premiums (plus interest) "as a gesture of goodwill and to avoid protracted correspondence".

Having heard nothing by mid January, I contacted them several times to be told they had a backlog of paperwork and I would be paid soon. Having still heard nothing, I contacted the ombudsmen again 2 weeks ago and now Northern Rock have given me the loan at the agreed interest rate without PPI and repaid £4500.

So, if you claim and get nowhere - go to the ombudsmen, especially if they start stalling over your claim.

Thank you to Martin and the MSE team - you've made me very, very happy! :T
