PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Just received a letter from the Ombudsman today informing me that
"MBNA would like to make me an offer as a gesture of goodwill and with no admission of liability, to settle your complaint"
Im not really sure what this means exaxtly (maybe someone can help me out?!), but it seems that I have had some kind of victory over MBNA. I should let everyone know that I achieved this by sending an initial email (which was rejected by letter), and ONE further letter to The Ombudsman! Not sure yet how much i am getting back yet, but I will post as soon as I know.
Thanks MSE!
They are saying,in a nutshell they did not mis sell this ppi but...they are giving you some money back.
What you need to do,is wait for the figures from them and if you do not think it is enough (some goodwill gestures are the full redress by the way) then you can argue this and threaten FOS.0 -
:j Hello all, got just over £8000 back today which accumulated with 2 loans. Many thanks Martin and the team . Notice it states on the letter that they advise that you might have to pay tax on it. Anyone know anything about this.
Only on the 8% you do, how much depends on your tax code now.
Best phone the tax office when you receive the refund.0 -

If you are a taxpayer, you have to pay tax on the 8% only,if this 8% amount does not take you over your tax allowance then you dont have to pay this.
If you are not a tax payer, then you dont have to pay this, unless you are on JSA then you need to talk to the jobcentre about this .0 -
Well done to all today's winners, Congratulations!

Hello,
Long time lurkers first post.
Thank you for all the the great posts and information. I have been following this forum for a while and I have recieved a refund of just over £7000 from MBNA:T for CC ppi but have recieved a rejection from the Clydesdale Bank also for CC ppi.
I would like to go to FOS for the Clydesdale rejection but wanted to ask if I can add new information to the FOS questionaire or if I can only send a copy of the original questionaire I sent to Clydesdalebank. The Clydesdale ppi handler seems to have deliberately misunderstood my complain.

I don't see why not, they would have a hard time refusing them if the grounds are identical.0 -
Letter waiting for me when I woke up off nightshift, from Halifax regarding my PPI.
A refund of just under 2 grand as a full and final offer, though I am slightly confused by this paragraph-
"It should be noted that the figure quoted above will be refunded back onto the credit card account where the PPI premiums were originally debited.Subsequently,if you have not yet received it,a cheque for this amount will be forwarded under separate cover"
Does this mean I'll get a cheque?Or it goes towards my CC account?
Confused lol.Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?0
