PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hello to all, been reading this forum for ages been great to read other peoples stories. Am a bit stuck myself now and getting TIRED and CONFUSED.
I have been looking into my husbands old loans and credit cards for PPI's that he took out years ago with no idea what he was doing and no need for them as his job paid sickness and a large redundancy because he has worked for local authority forever.
We have had one major success with an Egg credit card of 2834.68 so far which spurred me on to keep going,:j but growing a bit weary.
Had a letter back from MBNA today stating that they brought the debt from Alliance and Leicester Visa and that when they took over my husband was givin the opportunity to back out but "As a goodwill gesture" they will pay
£131.66
76.78 ppi paid since changed to MBNA
10.62 Interest associated with PPI
47.26 8% interest
Can anyone advise me if this sounds right?
Good luck to all out there who are trying!:j0 -
Hi, just wondering if anybody has claimed against La Redoute (catalogue company)? I have just re-discovered my account number and am certain that I was paying a ppi on this account. Am going to request historical statements to check.
I have had a success with my claim against First Direct (£5,300!!!). Awaiting response from M&S money. Rejection from Egg and Capital One. Have asked Egg to reconsider but will refer both to the FOS. Egg's rejection letter came only 2 days after I had received an acknowledgement - crossed fingers it will reconsider.0 -
ok thanks Dave - will do!! My Egg card was closed in 1997 so still w/i limit. Taken out in 1999, internet application. Egg claims that it did not use "pre ticked" boxes but I know for certain that I would not have chosen voluntarily to take ppi . I will plod on...:)0

Hi egg rejected me because my credit card was closed more than 6 years ago so i went to FOS , i called them about 3 weeks ago asking if they would re look at my claim and they agreed so d ont give up cheers Dave
Hi just wanted to say that Egg upheld my husbands claim and his account was closed in 2004, hope this might help Dave. They can't just make up a 6 year rule when they feel0 -

Evening All!
Got home tonight to find an offer letter from Lloyds TSB (dated 30th August) upholding the claim I put in for ppi on an old loan :j
No figures, as expected, but agreed to pay all ppi premiums (including interest) + 8% simple interest
It won't be much as the loan was only for £2k but it all counts!
Letter signed and it'll be off to them in the post in the morning
Fingers crossed they uphold by credit card complaint - 2 weeks left for them to reply

Firstly, a HUGE congratlations to all who have successfully had their claims upheld....am delighted for you!!!
The successes are fairly rolling in now....great to see!!!
Also, ( naturally) I have a question...I sent a SAR to M&S...the paperwork back gives details of a card, ( already reclaimed)..but misses at least one loan...which I found going through old paperwork...any idea why they might do that?
The card went way back to before the loan...
Also, had 40 minutes on the phone with the adjudicator from the fos...very, very thorough...am hoping that he will decide in my favour...but it is a Cap One claim..
Good luck to all today for good news...

Hi Citibird,
Just to say that exactly the same thing happened to me when I requested a SAR from M & S. They sent details of the chargecard that is still open but no details of a loan I vaguely remembered having with them, which was what I really wanted! I probably would have left it there if they had also sent details of the credit card that I also have with them but as they didn't I knew they hadn't sent all info on file.
So, I e-mailed the CEO of M&S to express my concerns at not receiving all records and about 3 weeks later got a letter with some more info.....including 6 loan account numbers!! No other details though so although I have submitted a complaint I'm not hopeful!
I've also submitted a complaint re: the chargecard. Can I ask when you submitted yours and have you heard anything back?
Good Luck with yours!0 -
Congrats to all with successful outcomes so far and good luck to everyone still waiting. The 31st Aug deadline has passed with no response from HSBC. Previous correspondence gave a direct line for the claims dept. I have tried to call them today but it either rings out or the other end hangs up. I called head office and the guy said they would put a note on the file to say I had called but the guy also said that my case was with the FOS so I'm wondering if that is why I've heard nothing fro HSBC. I would appreciate if anyone could advise me what to do next as I've heard nothing from the FOS either since March so I don't know whether to contact them or keep chasing HSBC.
My advice would simply be don't hold your breath. My sister spoke to an adjudicator at length on the 27th of January, the adjudicator ruled in her favour on the 14th of April, didn't bother notifying my sister of the decision, then the finance company wouldn't co-operate so case has allegedly been fast-tracked (my sister is severely disabled) to the Ombudsman for a final decision. Today marks three weeks short of the case being in the hands of the FOS for nine months and we've heard nothing. Not in the least bit impressed so drawing a line under it as one of life's harshest lessons. We were fed false hopes and it's amounted to nothing. Good luck with yours.0 -
