Can someone help me here? I've been phoned today by the PPI team at Rbs about my claim for Nat West loans whose PPI I maintain was missold.
The guy said he would send details out to me about each loans (there's 11!) after 12 weeks since my original complaint. I've complained to the Financial Ombudsman already, as I think a pre-existing medical condition would have prevented me from claiming. But when I asked the PPi guy for a steer on the result, he said he "was not in the business of telling people confidential information over the phone"- I'm paranoid now that they will tell me to buzz off- what do you think?[/quote

Have you had a final response from RBS or have you complained to the Financial Ombudsman about the length of time it has taken to deal with your complaint? How long have the Ombudsman had your complaint?

I have already had a final response from RBS on my Tesco loan PPI complaint as I have a pre existing condition as well & wondered if complaining to the Ombudsman helped to change their mind.

I honestly think that they wouldn't have wasted a phone call if they were going to tell you to go away, they prefer to do this in a letter.

    Hi there hun,

Regarding your mortgages there is a thread for that on this site, for reclaiming charges etc, if you need help with reclaiming on Payment Protection Insurance there is a thread next to this one.;)
If you feel you were mis sold on the insurance and require more info give us a yell here if having problems finding these threads.

  • It may have taken 8 months and the Ombudsmen, but I have just had refund of over £8600 from Northern Rock!!!

8 months ago I was reading this site like everyone else and thought I would download the letter. I put all of my depts into one massive £24,999 loan over 10 years when we bought our house (the maximum unsecured load I believe) and I was given the impression that the payment protection was required.

A month after sending my letter, and consequently filling out their questionaire asking things like "have you ever taken out PPI's with any other company".. in which case my reply was "irrelevant". I got a refusal through the post. This was disheartening, but I thought that I should take it all the way so I contacted the ombudsman as Martin recommended and Northern Rock made me an offer of paying it all back with 8% interest a few months later.

They wanted to recalculate my loan but I have paid the rest in full (saving another £3000 interest) and have had my letter confirming a closed account today... so I guess you could say that today is a good day!

Thank you Martin for bringing this to everyones attention, and for your help with the letters etc.

Don't just sit there... do it people!!! I should have been paying £400 for another 6 years!!!
    • What were you reclaiming: Graduate Loan
    • Who was the provider: HSBC
    • How much did you get back: over £2000!!!!!!!
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: after 1 letter from me and 3 from them.
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
I had a graduate loan from HSBC. Sent one letter using the template, they sent me a holding letter saying I would hear within 4 weeks, then another apologising for delay and that I would hear with a further four weeks. Got letter today offering me PPI pus interest of 8% totalling over £2000. :j
  • I had PPI with Halifax Credit Card which I only realized it was insurance after reading this wesite, I always thought it was interest in the amount I owed.

I downloaded the letters sent it to Halifax and just received the final answer that they will give me the following amounts:

Refund of premiums to date: £3134.85
    Interest charged on premiums: £1536.75
    Compensatory interest at 8%: £622.06

    Total: £5293.66

I am very happy to get my money back. Thanks Martin!!!
