  • Successfully claimed back single premium ppi insurance plus interest on top from A&L.

Very slow, took about 12 weeks to hear from them apart from a couple of holding letters saying they were looking into it.

    Very pleased!
  • Got a letter back from Abbey after under two weeks. Full refund of £305. Without this site and help on it i would have missed out. Gunning for a few others now as well. I'll keep you updated!
  • Hello. I've just heard back from Nat West over my ten loans (I've been extending my loan each time, and now have a £23,000 personal loan with them).
I said I was mis-sold PPI for all of them. Anyway, the bank has not admitted liability but as a goodwill gesture has offered to refund the premiums I paid for the first six.
    Namely,
    £85.62
    £99.20
    £208.15
    £191.13
    £430.03
    £469.43
    0.48p (!)
In each case, the bank paid the balance of the PPi into the loan account i.e as a credit when I took out the next one.
But the last four loan extensions are different.
Nat West says each loan included a single premium policy BUT unlike the others it doesn't specify the premiums I paid, or the lump sum added at the start of each loan.
For each of these four loans, (£16k, £18k, £20k, £23k) Nat West has offered a "goodwill gesture" of £750.
Are they trying it on? This is a fraction of the single premium PPI I paid, so what should I do?
I'm tempted to claim the refunds for the first six loans, which comes to £1484.04 but contest the others.
I'm not complaining, if I took all ten refunds it would be £4,484.04 in my pocket, but I reckon I should contest the last four- tell me what you think..

    Hi there

    I would go for it.;)
Try to get back every penny you deserve back from your claims.

Please also post up if you want to for others opinions on the PPI reclaiming thread, which is next to this one, good luck with all these.;)

  • I took out a personal loan with the A&L two and a half years ago and like so many other people was persuaded to take out PPI on the Loan. Thanks to this article I realised i was missold the product. Using the Template letter I contacted A&L and after only three weeks I have been offered over £650.00 as a full refund. This refund is a direct result of your article. I have also received back £250.00 for excess exit fee payment on my Mortgage. The latter took 3 letters but for an outlay of just under £2.00 postage I think nearly a £1000.00 is a brilliant return

Thank you to everyone on this website:beer:
  • thanks martin i have just had refunded £2729.25 from the halifax
i complained xmas eve 2008 and got 2 standard replies and a settlement yesterday in total it took 4 weeks from start to finish
i am awaiting a refund on another one with the same bank i will keep you posted
the loan was for £10000 do you think i should accept the figure or go for more i have 6 months to decide i think the value is good but i could be wrong your views would be great
  • Thanks to you Martin i recieved £649 from Nat west bank, regarding my ppi all i had to do was to go & see the customer adviser who then filled in the appropriate form,2 weeks later i recieved a letter telling me i had this amount to come.
    How simple was that.:T
    • What were you reclaiming: PPI
    • Who was the provider: Capital One
    • How much did you get back: £47.60
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 2 either way, their last one with the offer. Not admitting liabilty of course. There payment is only a 'goodwill gesture'
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
Might not be a massive ammount but this is a major achievement for me because I really feel they (& other banks) lied & walked all over me.
I have epilepsy, was never told it meant I wouldnt be able to claim. 2006, I have major brain surgery, off work for a year, had to go on to benefits. Tried to claim with Capital One, HFC, HSBC & ACE. Wasn't allowed, surgery was for epilepsy which invalidated the insurance. At the time I just thought it was my fault for being stupid. Wasn't till I read about miss selling on here that I relaised I'd been duped.
My 2nd letter to Capital One told my story, that they already know well from when I was paying £1 month for a year. So I won but no apology, no guilt on their part but no bmatter it wont happen to me again.
Now waiting to here from HFC, just wrote to them again as I had a reply saying they're sorry they havent replied lol. If and when I win off them it's going to be big, 3 loans overwriting each other. Single premium policy on a £4000 loan each time. And they sold me face to face and never told me.

Ace, well I'm writing to the FSO monday as they're not interested, gave me final reply denying any liability.

  • I recently tried to cancel my PPI on a loan with the Alliance & Leicester, so that I could reclaim everything I had already paid (I paid £20 a month for nearly 3 years). I was told that to do this, I would have to cancel the loan and take out a new credit agreement. This added £18 a month on to my loan repayment, which meant I would be saving about £1.80 a month. After several letters to a woman who obviously had a degree in bull***t, I decided to pay off the loan in full and then try and claim back all the PPI.
I sent off a letter to the consumer relations department of the Alliance & Leicester using the template on MoneySavingExpert, and received a reply after about ten days saying they would investigate my claim. It went on to say that basically I was an idiot, they knew best and my claim was a waste of time. Three days later I received another letter saying that it looked like I might have a point and would I accept their offer of £879.00.
    Happy Days. :j
    Thanks MSE
