PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • Hi there

Just been on the phone to Halifax this morning to check their figures for our PPI refund and they advised me that we paid back £20,823 in settlement.

the PPI was £4710.33 (front loaded) but we only made 5 payments on the loan before we paid it off in full, the monthly payment was £367.92 over 84 months. The advicor says that we will be refunded what we paid in PPI

I work this out at £56 per month (£4710 divided by 84 months) times the 5 months we paid = £280 - does this sound correct ? Sorry I am rubbish at Maths

The letter we got back says

"I have decided to pay you an amount which will but you back in the position you would have been in had you not taken the insurance"

    Any advice gratefully received

    K x

    Hi there
I would be prepared to take this to the FOS, 8 weeks is ample time for them to deal with complaints, as I believe they have more than 1 person dealing within their compliance depts.
You can ring the FOS or download a form from their website.
In the FOS form, just let them know you've not received a response from HFC and the 8 weeks have passed.
And if you have received any letters of correspondence at all from the company, enclose copies in the form, the FOS will then take over and investigate this for you.

I would get a copy done after completion of the form and send one to HFC, tell them the 8 weeks have passed and they have had ample time to deal with your complaint, so you have enclosed a copy for their records.
(sometimes this can be a good thing - where they may still reconsider while your complaint is within the FOS and if successful just let the FOS know.

Good luck and also keep a copy for yourself for future reference.

  • Hi all,
not sure if this is due to my success in reclaiming my ppi from hbos but today i received a cheque for £591 saying after an audit they have realised i was given an incorrect settlement figure when repaying a loan.
Great surprise, will tide me over till Fos sees to Tesco Personal Finance!!!
    • What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
    • Who was the provider: Egg
    • How much did you get back: Just over £5,300
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Just one letter and within 8 weeks
Ever since this mis selling story hit the headlines I had always felt this had happened to me but then thought I would be the one who would not be successful, so I put off and put off. Then my job situation changed which meant reduced hours and reduced money, so I decided that I had to make my stand, so I downloaded the standard letter template and adjusted it to my circumstances and within 8 weeks I had two cheques in my hand and my outstanding loan which had four more payments to be made, settled. Overall this totals just over £5,300 :T It certainly was worth the postage!

Thank you Martin and all on MSE

  • Hi,
I was wondering, I have had loans/ credit cards with Beneficial Bank in the past, and later had the balanced consolidated these debts into a HFC Loan, so to reclaim PPI, do I write to HFC Bank or to my local Beneficial branch ??

And does anyone have the address for HFC bank ?

    Thanks for all your help
  • Hi guys just quick query hereI sent my letter off to halifax regarding miss selling of ppi on my loan,i have had a response saying we have decided to pay you all the ppi and 8% back.

it also says we will be contacting you shortly about the amount.

What i need to know is how long it takes to hear what the amount is and how long after their refund letter to actually recieving the money.

anyone who has successfully had there ppi refunded from Halifax would know this

    i really appreciate any info

    Hi there

Could you please tell me what you reason was for trying to reclaim PPI from Egg? I am currently trying to reclaim from Egg so was just wondering whether my circumstances were similar to yours.
