  • Took out a loan with Alliance & Leicester on-line 3 years ago and topped it up two years ago. Successfully reclaimed over £1500. straight away on the initial loan. I requested FSA intervention for the second loan and now, a year later, I have just received a cheque for almost £3000. Thank you Martin!

  • In Novmeber 2008, I sent a template letter of to the Alliance and Leicester reclaiming PPI on a Loan taken out august 2005 for £20,000 over 7 years. the loan was paid back after 27 months. By 06/01/2009, I was so mad as they hadn't even looked at it and they had 1 week to go before the statutory 8 weeks was up. I had made up my mind that I would go to the ombudsman if I hadn't heard any thing by 14/01/2009.

Well, work has got the better of me over the last 3 weeks and I've never completed the FOS form. Just as well!!! For today I received a letter from A&L offering me a reimbursement of PPI, Interest etc etc totalling £3914.81!!!

Thanks Martin and all the other money saving experts. Goes to show what can be achieved with a bit of PEOPLE POWER!!

    Hi and well done,

I also had a 20k loan over 7 years with PPI and have had a letter from Halifax to say will be being reimbursed, it was paid back within 7 months of opening the loan account but I worked out I would only get about £300 quid ! - gutted

  • I had ppi added to my loans with Bank of Scotland. To them ppi was compulsory. And they misled me into taking the policy. i.e if you don't take the ppi the loan won't be approved.. standard practise apparently.

After taking Martins advise. I used the template letters. Was told I didn't have a case, went to the ombudsman and they came backl with the offer of refunding all premiums plus interest blah blah.

However as they haven't totally fulfilled there promise. My complaint against Bank of Scotland is continuing even after claming back £1700. (Cheers Martin)

Don't try wasting your time reasoning with them on the phone, they even denied me in writing, told my contact at ombudsman that I wasn't due anymore payments. When I told the ombudsman fine well escalate my complaint further.. another cheque was sent out to me. I doubt I would have recieved this cheque if I hadn't stuck to my guns.

Be tenacious. Take you're complaint all the way. It pays off.

Thanks again Martin. At least theres one honest guy out there. Keep up the good work!!!!!

I too have just been offered a puny amount from Cap one. They have offered me £174!! When have been unable to find my account and said that it did not exist.

I wrote back to say how can they offer anything if they do not have a record of my account.

My 1st letter was posted in November, I have now reported cap one to the Information Commissioner Office as I have still await my statements.
I have also sent all the letters to the FO and sent copies to Cap one.

After six years approx your records are transfered to microfilms and stored away. (They can be retrieved) I was told this by a friend who works in a bank. I had the same problem getting info and I was given all kinds of excuses too. Its as if the banks employees have been ordered to deny and deflect this fact. STICK WITH IT! YOU'LL GET THERE. They can get your info. The unofficial banking code seems to be if you think you can get away with it and as long as you don't put false statements in writing you are free to say whatever you like... in the banks favour of course.

Its always handy to take the persons name and time of your call. These calls are recorded. If you are lied to and mislead. The ombudsman can investigate.

  • Has anyone had any success with morganstanley credit card ppi and who do i send claim to
  • Having read the threads on reclaiming PPI and noting that Alliance and Leicester had been fined , I decided to give it a go. I felt they had miss sold the insurance as I was taking the loan of £10,000 to fund the purchase of a vehicle for my young son starting his own business. At 18 he had no credit history and I had never dealt with A & L - this meant I had to have PPI. He was paying the installments so the fact that I may have become ill or unempolyed was irrelevant as far as needing insurance goes.

I used your template letter and sent it off on 2 January 2009 - have recieved an offer today of £2030.40 + interest @ 8% of £534.67 = Total of £2565.07.

A fantastic result in the space of 1 month.

  • i put in a claim for ppi in november with hsbc and had leter yesterday saying that as i applied for loan online that hsbc had no involvement in persuading me to take out th ppi so they were rejecting my claim!!gutted!!id applied for loan with them in june 2006 for 5k and had forms to sign and send back ppi wasnt added onto it,,then in the october took out extra 1k and they added the ppi onto this and they have sent me a copy of form that i ticked agreeing to the insurance but id actually rang up hsbc asking what this insurance form was (bit gullible!) and they just said sign all the forms and send them back so i thought i had to have it t o have the loan,is it worth me sending another letter?has anyone recieved refund after having rejection first??
  • This is my first post so forgive me if I make a silly mistake...

I was consistently missold PPI on a NatWest loan, beginning in Oct 2003. I topped up the loan in May 2004 and again in Jan 2005. Having pestered NatWest with letters (them denying I'd ever had PPI, because they couldn't find their paperwork, until I sent them proof, etc etc) since Sept 2008, I yesterday received a 'goodwill gesture' offer of £1500 for the first two loans. They're still investigating my last, and current, loan but it was very obviously missold (I said I didn't want PPI, he said "you won't get this loan unless you take it") so I'm hoping they'll pay out even more soon!
Thanks so much Martin for all your advice!

    Hi there,
I wrote to LLoyds to reclaim PPI on a loan I took out in April 07. I claimed with the point that my pre-existing medical condition meant that I couldn't claim in the event that I couldn't work due to it. They replied saying that I was made aware of this at the time of application and enclosed a form I'd signed saying I had informed them of a condition and was aware I coulldn't claim due to this.
So it was worth a try, but think it was my fault I took the PPI (which has now been cancelled!)
I really need to sort out a new signature!
