  • Hi there
Having heard Martin say about PPI and reclaiming it - I thought I would have a go and getting PPI back on an Abbeyloan which in fact ends in April - I did a letter from a template and said that it had in fact it had been missold and thought no more about it - about a week later I had a letter saying that I would be getting all my payments back and interest of 8% which came to a little bit over £1000 and for the few months left the PPI part would be cancelled - so as soon as I get my money in my account from Abbey I will pay back what little is owed on the loan and put the rest to my credit card bill.
Hurray for Martin and his moneysaving site.

Wrote off to Citifinancial in December 2008 for refund of PPI on loans I had with them 4/5 years ago (using MSE templates).

Got letter yesterday = receiving full refund plus interest of £700.00.

Did not even have to go to FOS!

    Thanks alot MSE.
  • I posted a message a while ago about a complaint I had against First Plus and their selling of PPI on a loan I took out. I complained to the FOS who replied saying that the loan was taken out on 09/01/05 so the complaint did not come under their jurisdiction. Following advice from the good folks on here I re-submitted my complaint to the FOS after finding out that FP were under the jurisdiction of the GISC. I have recieved a letter now telling me that First Plus were actually only brokers and the PPI was with Central Trust PLC and they were not a member of the GISC at the time the PPI was sold so there is nothing the FOS can do. I had never heard of Central Trust PLC. I dealt with First Plus!! Are the ombudsman there to help? They seem toothless. Any help or advice on where I can go from here would be greatly appreciated. Steve.

Hi all, I had a loan of £40k with Norton Finance and to cut a long story short I only actually needed the monies until I was to change my mortgage in about 18months at which point I would settle the loan. Norton were made fully aware of this... I had re-paid about £13k by the time I settled/redeemed the loan! My redemtion figure was £47K!!!! I nearly died! That meant £40k cost me £60k in 20months!!! I wrote several complaint letters to Norton but to no avail!!!So eventually I took this to the FOS on THEIR suggestion! Eventually, I was told that as the loan was over £25k they could not help, but pointed out I had been mis-sold a PPI! Now almost 20months down the line and a year of the FOS taking my case, the FOS have found in MY FAVOUR & NORTON FINANCE HAVE TO RE-IMBURSE ME!!!!!
I will be receiving ALL monies that I paid for the PPI, ALL the interest on the PPI, ALL the difference between the loan WITH & WITOUT the insurance add this together and put 8% interest on this(from the date I received the monies until the date they write the RE-IMBURSEMENT CHEQUE - which will be just over THREE YEARS!) and then I will receive an EXTRA 20% INCONVENIENCE/STRESS & COMPENSATION PAYMENT! This should total approx £6k!!!!It has been a LONG WAIT but definitely WORTH IT!!!! Do NOT GIVE UP - especially if you BELIEVE you have been 'DONE!' The FOS have been BRILLIANT & FREE!!!!!!
But best of all is the letter from the FOS to NORTON! The ombudsman has totally slated them and is isuing an inquiry to their other loans they have!! I hope they go out of business! The FOS has found TOO MANY IRREGULARITES in my case and is a large 'well-known' company! I just hope more people find the time to contact the FOS as they have been WONDERFUL!!!

Was this a single premium policy with First plus. We just been informed by FOS adjudicator that he has upheld our complaint against Norton in exactly the same circumstances but for a larger amount. We are waiting for them to reply by next tuesday(10th Feb) My wife was panicking cos the nice man from the FOS said that it could take up to another year if they did not agree with his findings.Iwould love to ring Norton up and qoute your case to them to apply a bit of pressure. Just to back you up, as I said in my original post the FOS have been top notch, they will always listen and have kept me on the straight and narrow so if anyone reads this and wondering whether to go thru with it as it all seems a bit daunting......Get stuck in you've got nothing to lose and the odds seem to be stacking increasingly in our favour

    Hi there

I am not too sure if Capital were fined but still if you believe you have a case and that you were mis sold for any reason you can still try reclaiming and complaining.
    Check this link out here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

This should give you some ideas, and there is also a template letter you can also use to help with your reclaiming, but try to write in your own words if you can with your own reasons.

Another letter maybe required if not successful first time round, post by recorded delivery, they have 8 weeks to respond in full.

If you've no documents, it may be worth your while requesting a Subject access request(SAR) where they must send all the information on you on your account(s), they have 40 days to comply, again post by recorded delivery.

There is a SAR template on the next thread next to this one called:
PPI reclaiming - discussion thread 4 on page one and the details of a SAR as well, depending what information you have to help support your complaint.

But you can still continue to write and complain as well while your waiting for the information to come through.

Good luck, you can also post your issue on the reclaiming thread where others will also step in to help where they can.;)

  • Hi everyone, i sent off for my statements from cap one in November 08 and sent letter from the templates asking for my PPI as mis-sold, i recieved a letter in December refusing mis-sellng but offering peanuts as a goodwill gesture, i sent letter 2 refusing in January and asking them to reconsider and i have just recieved a letter offering full PPI payment from 2002. I asked for £487 and i got £487. Dont let them fob you off it can be done just keep going. xxxxsarah  :j :j I
  • I too have just been offered a puny amount from Cap one. They have offered me £174!! When have been unable to find my account and said that it did not exist.

I wrote back to say how can they offer anything if they do not have a record of my account.

My 1st letter was posted in November, I have now reported cap one to the Information Commissioner Office as I have still await my statements.
I have also sent all the letters to the FO and sent copies to Cap one.
SPC £500 well will try very hard.
